ROTS: After the 2nd viewing... (possible spoilers)

Hey all. I went the the midnight show and like most of you I was very dissapointed. I went again this afternoon, and I have to say I feel MUCH better.

In order to appreciate a song, you have to listen to it twice. I think the same goes for movies. My second viewing was much more enjoyable. I wasn’t totally bombarded with all the crazy stuff going on. After last night, I felt the same as most of you guys did. About General Grevious, The Qui-Gon thing, The ‘fast turning to the dark side’. But after seeing it again, it seemed different. More fun. And that’s what it is all about, right?

OK

Some things I was dissapointed in…

We never found out why, when etc. Obi-Wan starts using the name Ben. “I haven’t gone by the name Obi-Wan since oh, before you were born.” Now, while this is not major it still bothers me. If Obi-Wan changed his name to protect himself, don’t you think he should have changed his last name?

Luke: “Do you remember your mother? You’re real mother?”
Leia: “Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.”
Luke: “What do you remember?”
Leia: “Images really. Feelings.”

(You know the rest)

How could Leia remember that? She was like 2 minutes old. Ok, I know what you are thinking, because of the Force. How come Luke can’t remember anything?

In ESB, while on Dagobah, Luke says, “there’s something familiar about this place.”
I was hoping we would find out why. Nope.

When some Jedi die, they dissapear. We find out why. But not really. I Was hoping for way more on that.

Anakin never says that he wanted his son to have his lightsaber. Obi-Wan just takes it.

Any thoughts? If I think of more, I will continue.

That's always bothered me too, but it was always just a small thing. I never worried about it to much.

I've been wondering the exact same thing.

Hm... I never thought of that. That's a good point, why does he say that? Is he just feeling the force through Yoda and that reminds him of Ben or something?

There is a topic a few topics down that semi-explains that.

Obi-Wan also told Luke that Darth Vader killed his father. I think he wanted Luke to think of Anakin as a Hero, so saying "I took this from him and left him to die" wouldn't be his first choice of words.

Some good points. Thanks for the link. Pretty cool. Should have been in the film.

Another thing...

Who is Sifo Dyas? The "Jedi" who ordered the clone army. Never found that out.

Regarding the Leia thing... it's possible that they were created memories. I wonder how much of my childhood are legitimate memories and how much were created by my brain in response to photos I have seen and stories I've been told about events. It's possible that she created the image of her mother based on stories she heard and photos that she saw. No, Bail and his wife were not likely to have pictures of Padme around, but she was a Queen and a Senator so historical records would have her image in there somewhere along with rough accounts of her life. The rest could be Bail's description of her always being sad. Which she was a lot of the time when they were together because they watched together as the Republic crumbled and the galaxy fell into civil war.
"You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is 'Never get involved in a land war in Asia'."

I just assume that Leia is talking about her adoptive mother, who, as far as she knows is her real mother. Only when Luke reveals that she is his sister does she realise that it was not her real mother and she has no memory of her real mother.

War does not make one great.

But when Luke first asks her he specifically says, 'Do your remember your mother, you're real mother' or something very similar. Luke obviously knew he was 'adopted' and from that scene in Jedi it seems that Leia knew she was adopted as well.

what gets me is she says 'somehow i always knew' when Luke reveals they are brother/sister. Which means she knew even when she kissed him...thats just wrong.

Why Anakin really turned to the dark side:
"Anakin, You're father I am" - Yoda
"No. No. That's not true! That's impossible!" - Anakin

Not it's not wrong, you gotta be more open-minded
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I've wondered if Lucas knew they were brother/sister all along. And if so, WHY would he have them kiss? That's a little curious, don't you think?

Well, Yoda says the line "No... there is another", so that means he must have at least had the idea. Maybe he had them kiss so people would be more surprised when they found out or something?

Its my understanding that at the time when 'Star Wars' was made, GL had no idea (or plans) to make another film. At that time, the events of the film should be taken at face value- no idea that Darth was Luke's father, no thoughts about Luke and Leia being siblings....

That said, when SW became the blockbuster that it did and GL saw that sequels were wanted by the fans and studio alike, he was able to flesh out the story and came up with most of the ideas that he has stuck with over the years.

By ESB he decided that Darth was Luke's father... but *still* had Leia lay a good snog on Luke early in the film which helped to set up the romantic tension later on with Han. Though we may never know for sure, I personally think that GL had NOT decided that Leia was Luke's sister at that time and *may* have had some other character in mind when Yoda and Ben mention 'another'. As to who, anyone's speculation is as good as mine.

By the time Blue Harvest...uh, I mean ROTJ ( ) was in production I feel that to wrap up the story in more of a clean fashion GL decided to just make that 'other' Leia. That way, no new character to introduce and a way to put someone Luke cares about in danger.

I realize fans have decided that the Force was able to shield Leia from Vader noticing her... but really: in SW she was directly under Vader's nose (including being interrogated... and one can presume that though neither of them knew her true origins Vader still probed her mind with the Force and probably doped her up in hopes of getting the location of the hidden Rebel base) and in ESB she, Han and Chewie were Forced (pun intended) to have dinner with Darth on Bespin.

So I feel the family additions were just as progressive as the whole movie-making process.
