I'm sorry too.   I'll try my best not to twist words anymore.

It's okay, bkev.  I don't think Warb's twisting my words here.  But I don't know what to tell you.  Like our debate in the Politics thread, it's something that I can understand both sides to the issue, so it's hard for me to argue my point with you.  And also like the other issue, it's something I have a strong, personal connection to and feelings about.  But it's complicated.  On the one hand, you could look at it like putting down a pet.  They're suffering.  They don't want to suffer anymore.  It's selfish of the family to force the animal to continue suffering.  On the other hand, the future is a ball of uncertainty, and who's to say if things won't get better?  It also causes quite a bit of pain and grief for the family and friends left behind, and one might argue that's selfish.  But on the other other hand, aren't people always told (in terms of careers), "You have to follow your own path, not the one that your family wants you to take, because you're the one who's going to have to live with it"?  So, yeah, it's complicated.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

yeah, I guess it is complicated.

the situation of putting down a pet, I put in the category of terminal illness.   If someone with a terminal illness wishes to pull the plug,  I have no problem with it.

What I have a problem with is people trying to kill themselves just because they are depressed or their boyfriend/girlfriend left them or something like that.  Maybe they are like me,  no girlfriend(never had one),  no friends(unless you count online ones),  no life, no job,  still living at home.    That is kind of person who might want to kill themselves that I object to.

Why is that?  I'm actually afraid of hitting a little too close to home in light of your description of your own life, so I don't want to seem callous or (God forbid) encouraging.  But you used the phrase "no life."  As in, lack of quality of life.  While maybe the circumstances you listed aren't the end of your world, who's to say if they're the end of someone else's world?  Doesn't a complete lack of quality of life seem like a legitimate reason to not want to be alive?  Again, not that I'm saying anything derogatory towards you.  Hell, you might just be made of sterner stuff than others.  But that said, I don't necessarily believe the threshhold of pain is linear.  Some things simply matter more to some people than to others, while the opposite is also true.

But I do object to the cowardly thing.  While I don't necessarily think it just for someone who is responsible for others dependent on them (young children, for example), I stand by my answer that killing oneself is not an easy thing to do.  To anyone who considers suicide an easy or cowardly act, put a gun up to your head and tell me how easy it is to pull the trigger.

I think are better solutions to these kinds of problems than killing yourself.  Also, many times the people in these situations aren't in full control of their faculties.   Should we just stand by and let someone who isn't capable of making rational decisions kill themselves?

I didn't say they all were cowards, just some.  some.
