What a loss his death is to the acting community. I really liked him. Sad isn't it, to see him go. He was a great actor and we'll miss him. R.I.P. Charlton Heston, you were a great actor.

R.I.P, indeed.

It's only a matter of time before they pry his gun away.

Damn. Heston was awesome. You know he's made some pretty bad movies in his day but I have to say I always loved them just because his personality was so amusing to watch. With him gone, its all up to Clint Eastwood to carry on as the symbol of universal manliness.

His autobiography, "In the Arena", is most certianly worth giving a read. It gives some very facinating insight into the movie industry of the time. A used copy can be picked up for next to nothing. I got a hardcover copy in perfect condition for $0.99 + shipping from amazon a while back.

Among my favorite movies of his are Planet of the Apes (of course), Soylent Green, and The Omega Man.

The later two are certianly not fantastic works of art, but they are really fun to watch, and Heston did a great job in those kinds of roles.

RIP man, he could rip the balls off any action hero today and Soylent Green was just awesome.

He was a good guy.

Shit... Clint will be off soon too... that will be a sad, sad day. Clint is the man. THE MAN.

War does not make one great.

It's kind of ironic. This past weekend (before his death), Turner Classics showed one of it's "Private Screenings" with him. The host talks one on one with the subject, show and discuss clips of their career, etc. At the end the host asked him for a little Shakespeare and Heston gave a reading from The Tempest, where the main character (a magician) is leaving the island where he'd been exiled. The character was loved by the people so he held a party before leaving. He then goes into a speech about how the party's over and how we're all just magical "stuff" like his phantom creatures. It was a beautiful reading by a true actor, a real man, and one of the few remaining of a dying breed.

Wow. He was coherent enough to talk about all that? Man, not even Alzheimer's can keep him down.

The piece was filmed in 99, about 3 years before he was diagnosed.

Oh. Too bad. This may not sound nice, but I was hoping he would die before the disease took its full toll on him. I wanted him to be able to remember who he was, all the famous roles he'd portrayed, etc.

I understand, believe me. I've an immediate family member with it. I see the decline daily.

Yep. It's sad. I heard this maybe 8 hours after he died...

The scary thing is: I watched "TRUE LIES" maybe three days before his death, and I always found it interesting how much he resembled Arnold Schwarzenegger...
so to see him WITH Arnold was pretty cool...

anyway, I thought to myself (of course not negatively) "when will Charlton die?" and, wow, three days later... it happened. I'm really sad about this too. Can't believe it.

I didn't remember it either, but it looks like he was.

That was strangely one of his memorable roles for me. He made the cheesy spy commander with an eyepatch work as a likable character.
