Well, I made my post at their forum.  I really don't think it will get any replies though.  I guess we'll see.

The links for ifo fix from a couple of pages back are broken but I think that I will combine the miami with original extras, like how I did with Building Empire.

Go for it!

Just for grins, here's the PAL .IFO,s again, to go with demonoid .VOB,s
[url]

 Heh :)

Well, it turns out things went pretty smoothly.

IFOUpdate merely updated the original DL PAL ifos with only chapters/cell info/navigation stuff from the demonoid miami ifos so the final ifos retained all the PAL info :D

Anyhoo it's all done and it's uploading to MultiUpload which is an uber cool service.

Boon started uploading his stuff there so that's how I came to know about it.

Basically, I upload to multiupload and 4 additional copies get uploaded to Rapidshare, MegaUpload, ZShare and HotFile. It can be 6 but I'm not bothering with uploading.com and depositfiles.com because they appear to suck rather large rocks.

Personally, I'd only download from the multiupload (appears as "directhttp" in jDownloader), MegaUpload and ZShare links as they are fast, wait time is negligible and all 3 support resuming. MultiUpload and ZShare also allow multiple downloading which is pretty freakin cool for free services.

Basically, a free user like myself can have jDownloader only use the links from those 3 services and max out their download bandwidth without a break until it's done.

I was able to download TMBTM's new Conan Man of War FE SL DVD in about 2 hrs. It could have been faster but I was figuring out a strategy on how to get jD to download from the 3 sites simultaneously in the most efficient manner LOL.

I selected RS and HF as additional sites because I know that alot of people pay for those services and what the heck, it's additional availablility for the same low price... ermm... free even. :D

I figure that it will be all done tomorrow sometime.

Wow!  Does this include a fixed NTSC?

Author

No sorry. You have the original in NTSC SL format from fanedt.org, correct? Maybe somebody will convert the "complete" Miami PAL DVD once I make the links available later. How does the demonoid NTSC Miami hack job play back for you?
Author

I don't have access to Demonoid.  It's a shame that this has become such a problem.  Makes me wish I never brought it up, but at the same time, how could anyone know to fix it if I didn't?  Oh well.  I guess I just won't be watching or sharing RTJ anymore.  Yes, it's that annoying.

Mulitupload wasn't making the last few files available to download so I had deleted and reuploaded them serveral times.

But it finally worked and it's all online :)

It should be at fanedit.info soon but if you can't wait I can PM links if that's not against company policy ;)

I included an nfo file in the DVD_ROM folder (yeah, I simply based it on the BE nfo file, but what the heck), which  reads as follows:

Availability.........: MultiUpload (also RS, MU, ZShare and HotFile)

In this release you'll find:

1 - The VIDEO_TS and DVD_ROM folders
2 - The !ifo_back folder
2 - This NFO file - Please... Do Not Remove!

Notes from ZeppelinRox:

1. Since I'm a completist and like to have the latest and greatest, I combined
all the menus and extras, including the DVD-ROM folder (containing artwork),
from the original DL PAL DVD with the updated Miami Underground Film Festival
SL PAL DVD.

2. Of course, the IFOs have been updated - using IfoEdit.
I did add chapter points to match the last 2 chapters of the original release
at the start of the end credits and at the end of the credits (but before that
extra bit) - using VobBlanker's split cell and add chapter features.
Then I deleted the last 2 original chapter points that were just before and in
the middle of the end credits - using PgcEdit

3. The !ifo_back folder contains files with original chapters.
I included these files in the off chance that there is a problem with the new
chapter points that I made. I'm no IFO Guru so better safe than sorry :P
These files will also retain all the menus and extras.
So if there is a problem, back up the ifo files in the VIDEO_TS folder and
replace them with these files.

4. I did not shrink anything down so the quality here is, as far as I know, the
best that is available.
The downside is that it all does not quite fit on a single layer DVD.

If anyone can properly convert this to NTSC, please contact me.

Author

Me too. I'd love to have the whole shebang in NTSC.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Author

I still plan on checking my version (I swear I heard no speedup when I watched it) but last night I got interrupted just as I popped it into my player...

Jambe since you are working on your doc for star wars i am almost afraid to ask, but will next years Blu Ray release of the deleted scenes make a V3 of empire and jedi possible?

If there any hope the blu ray will have the lost documentary on empire strikes back?

Hey zeppelinrox - Cool Idea. WOuld you be able to send me a copy?

Skyjedi2005 - I doubt I will be making any alterations to BE or RTJ. But you never know what might motivate me.

OK will do JD.

I'm actually attempting to do an NTSC version.

Depending on how it goes, perhaps I can send both.

Thanks.  I eagerly await the results!

The DL PAL RTJ MUFF Edition is now up at fanedit.info

However, I'm thinking about re-encoding it to fit on a single layer dvd since it is only 4.57 gb.

I'd like to slightly sharpen the picture a bit while shrinking it down to 4.36 gb.

The reason that I'd like to do this is that I'm pretty happy with the image quality of the NTSC version that I'm working on:

Original Miami PAL encode:

Original Pal Encode

My Miami NTSC encode (currently on cce pass 2 of 4 but was still able to take this snapshot):

My Miami NTSC encode

For easy comparison, I had resized the PAL cap to the same dimension of the NTSC cap.

So... should I leave the Miami PAL alone or re-encode so it fits on a SL DVD?

Author

Personally I don't care at this point, as long as I get an NTSC that is fixed, it's all good.  :)

Zeppelinrox, are you aware of the audio issue that was explained in this post?  Apparently, the audio for this project cannot simply be slowed down in the usual fashion owing to the way in which it was made.

I'm just checking.  Sorry if you know this already! :-)

Thanks for the heads up :)

I did see that post before so I'm wanting to keep the same playback speed.

The problem I'm having is that I can't stand the ghosting/blended frames that many guides deliver and it doesn't help that the source is interlaced. Yadif gave jaggy edges and so did TDeint but not as bad as yadif and both lose too much detail where there is low ligjht.

CCE's deinterlacer is smooth and detail is good but too soft.

Finally I discovered TDeint's mode 2 parameter which is amazingly smooth, sharp and has great detail by combining detail from 2 frames via bobbing somehow.  I'm also testing its "tryMesh" parameter.

But bottom line is that the end result will have the same running time via ChangeFPS(23.976) and a pulldown. Dropping frames is better than ConvertFPS's ghosts, methinks. I did get feedback on a clip from a couple of guys, including JD, and playback is fine without jerkiness as far as they're concerned :)

However, I really wish there was a filter that would add 2 frames and delete 3 frames instead of just deleting a frame, which is how ChangeFPS works in this case. Of course, the 2 added frames would blend the usually deleted frame with it's adjacent frames and all 3 of those original frames would get deleted.

Actually, is there such a filter?

Is it truly interlaced?  I supppose this must be the material that does not come from the film itself, because that is obviously not interlaced.  I am afraid that I am not likely to be much help.  I have never actually used Convertfps() or Changefps() to be honest!

Unfortuneately, yep, it's interlaced.

All apps report as interlaced, bottom field first.

It's quite obvious when I tested it by encoding a short clip without deinterlacing. It looked pretty bad.

I think that's why the DGPulldown technique resulting in a shimmering/vibrating/pulsating picture LOL

At first glance, looks like telecine -- two film frames.

But if we separate the top & bottom fields...

...the damage is already done.

I suppose some of those clips had a fuckwit factor applied, long before they made their way to Jambe.
Fixing those seems a task, if that's the sort of ghosting zeprox is seeing

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

I agree with all of that.  Just for reference, don't rely on apps to tell you something is interlaced, as they usually just report how it is encoded.  It's best to look at the video.  :-)

Those shots Darth Mallwalker posted look pretty bad.  I don't think there's anything that can be done about that. :-(  I wonder what happened.  Perhaps the video was improperly deinterlaced and then reinterlaced somehow.

Author

Looks like those frames were created via ConvertFPS which makes way too many blended frames even when going down to 23.976 fps from 25 fps.

I tested it and quickly said to hell with that filter.

Which is why I opted for ChangeFPS.

Whatever happened, it's gotta be impossible to undo such ghosting.

Zoinks!  I sure hope the final NTSC product, whether it's DL or SL, is salvageable!

Author

Well you did get to see for yourself how it will playback. There won't be any addtional blended frames in the version that I will upload.

Sorry that its taking so long but I wanted to be sure to get as good a picture that I could get. Unfortunately it involved a lot of testing with CCE settings and avisynth filters after farting around with the MediaCoder/ffmpeg for too long.

The final avisynth scipt seems very simplistic but it took awhile to get the results I was looking for. I'm looking into possibly re-encoding the extras from the original PAL DVD as well instead of using the NTSC extras that are on the current SL version found at fanedit.info.

Here is the script that I'm using:

TDeint(Mode=2,Order=0,tryWeave=true)
Spline36Resize(720,480)
ChangeFPS(23.976)
limitedsharpenfaster()
converttoyuy2(interlaced=true)

If there is anything seriously wrong with it, such as stuff being in the wrong order, please let me know.

I don't understand why you have put interlaced=true because it looks like you have deinterlaced it.  Also, may I ask why you have used ChangeFPS and not AssumeFPS?  I just don't understand. :-)

I really would post this over at Videohelp and ask manono or jagabo to have a look at it.  The source material seems really quite problematic.
