Jambe, it happened to me also..skipped back to the beginning. I put the movie on a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc. If you fast forward to the next transition, it will not skip. But if you "play" it, it will skip back to the original title. I don't have a standalone DVD player that plays PAL, so I have no idea if it works fine in those situations or not.

I'm playing the film on an NEC ND-3550A series drive. It's also happening on my wife's laptop which has a Matshita UJ841S drive.

I'm using my standalone XBox 360 HD-DVD drive, which is a Toshiba. The drive plays PAL encoded discs just fine... Also had the issue pop up on my Sony DRX-830U drive for my laptop. Burned the disc on a Memorex Dual Layer at 2.4x.

But hey don't sweat it. This is a fantastic disc, you've really done an outstanding job and should be very proud of your work.

Fist off i have to say AMAZING job you have done here Jambe. Just finished watching it and loved every bit of it.

Secondly i think i may have found the problem some are having with it freezing after shrinking it. i opened the disk in PGCEdit and i noticed that the main movie has 2 layer breaks. 1 at chapter 21 then a second at chapter 24. This can cause problems in some players and shrink will remove the first layer break but not the second and then when it reaches the second on while playing it will freeze (happens a lot with certain sony players).

For anyone who is going to shrink the movie for a SL DVD here's a fix that will stop the freezing issue. Don't worry its only a really small download.

>>>LINK REMOVED<<<

Just open the original VIDEO_TS folder and drag the files from the unpacked fix and overwrite the existing files then run it through shrink and no more freezing problems. Tested it on my 3 DVD players (one is a brand new Sony that had the same freezing issues mentioned) and it played fine

Unfortunately i don't have any dual layer discs to check if the second layer break can cause problems . Jambe, if you can tell me what chapter you added the correct layer break then i may be able to provide a fix for the DL version too.

Hope this helps

Thanks for all the praise, I really appreciate it!

Ok the layer break (the one I set in DVD Studio Pro) is at Chapter 22. There can only be only layer break in the disc so I am not sure what else you guys are seeing. Weird.

Ah.... I may have found the problem!

" Finally, the break point, when using -R media, will be defined as Seamless which may cause incompatibilities with some set top players. Using +R media generally provides more compatible output."

I think the copy I sent to Darth Solo was DVD-R DL media!! Actually maybe it was +. Oh dear I can't remember.

I am burning a DVD+R DL disc as we speak. I will test it on a number of players and get back to you.

ok. I've removed the layer break from chapter 23 that seems to be causing the problems. So, hopefully, heres the fix for dual layer burning. To apply the fix just do the same as before, unpack the fix file and drag & drop the new files into the VIDEO_TS folder and overwrite them.

Hopefully this will work but i haven't been able to check a DL burn so save a copy of the original .IFO & BUP files first just in case

>>>LINK REMOVED <<<

Jambe, could you open your original VTS_01_0.IFO in IFOEdit ( feely available on the net) and could you tell me what your original files are reporting for the layer break. Might help to see if burning to a DL-R is adding the extra layer break

Adywan, you are a STAR!

"Jambe, could you open your original VTS_01_0.IFO in IFOEdit ( feely available on the net) and could you tell me what your original files are reporting for the layer break. Might help to see if burning to a DL-R is adding the extra layer break "

I just ran 'mydvdedit' a mac version of IFOEdit and it definitely has the layer change as 'seamless' which certainly didn't ask DVDSP to do.

Interesting. I hope the fix works for all of you. Maybe DarthSolo could edit the info on the torrent page to link to the fix?

And in the meantime, if anybody has the time to write a quick review of 'RTJ' for my blog (and this thread of course), I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

The download is complete and I am just doing the "Shrink" thing using the fixed files.

Once that is done, I will replace the original files, get back to seeding and watch the whole thing through tonite.

If people are struggling with the rapidshare links and there is a demand, I can upload the original files, SL fix and DL fix to my ISP webspace. the whole thing is only 210kb so it ain't a problem. Or just e-mail me......

This DVD is everything a SW Fan would want.
The way you integrated the extra content was wonderful.
You brought lost scenes to life (e.g. the sandstorm) showed more angeles and Interviews from the 80s, 90s and the 21st century.
This is by far (of course next to BE) one of the best things ever to come from the OT.com Forums.
I hope you keep up the excelent work and bring us STAR WARS next year, after a short rest...

BTW:
Here is my iPod conversion:

Screenshot(of the iPodready mp4 File):

it is converted to X264 with a Resolution of 640*352 with a size of 1GB (it runs on every ipod video with FW 1.2).
It does also look quiet nice on a PC or when you plug your ipod on a TV (with the component cable).

Jambe, use this if you want:

Wow! What can I say? "Returning to Jedi" is an absolute must have for any serious Star Wars fan or movie fanatic interested in the making of Geoerge Lucas' epic saga. Culled from numerous sources, "Returning to Jedi" is filled with facts and behind-the-scenes footage which gives you an up-close, insider look into the creative process and decision making behind the final chapter of the original Star Wars trilogy.

As an absolute Star Wars fanatic who thought he knew everything about the making of the Star Wars saga, I was surprised to see so much documentary footage I never knew existed. Additionally, "Returning to Jedi" is filled with all sorts of interesting factiods and observations. I mean who knew that the stage they used to shoot the Death Star hangar in "Return of the Jedi" is now the home of a supermarket?

Jambe Davdar's love of the Star Wars saga is obvious in the amount of effort and attention to detail that went into the making this well crafted documentary. This disc will now take it's rightful place next to official bonus disc of the recently released Star Wars Trilogy on DVD. Star Wars fans, "Returning to Jedi" is an absolute must for your DVD collection.

I don't believe the fix is working. I'm playing this via media player without burning (directly from the HD) and it's still skipping back to the menu screen at 01:53:50

Dual layer. If I can get it to work from the hard drive then I'll burn it to my DL disc. But these things are expensive, so I'll wait til it works on the HD first. I unpacked all the files in the rar file overtop the existing files in the VIDEO_TS folder. They show as copied, but it's still skipping back. Can you try the fix in Windows Media Player off your hard drive?

ok, here's something you can try. Load the DVD into DVDSHRINK. Individually highlight the menus, then the main movie then extras and for each one in the compression settings select "no compression". Then in "edit>preferences goto the output files tab and make sure that "remove layer break" isn't selected. Then create your dvd. If this still fails then set the main movie compression to 99% and create it. The won't be any loss in quality but it helps to rebuild the structure and should now be compliant. After you have recreated the dvd open the VTS_01_0.IFO in IFOEdit ( feely available on the net) and check that there is only 1 layer break and it is is only set at chapter 21 (it will say layer break next to the chapter).

Like i said i haven't been able to fully test the DL fix because i have no disks but it did work through WINDVD

OK I must have been drinking Drano,I just put the SL version in with fix,and its messed up still, now it doesnt even start at the begining its half way through the crawl, and went to the troubled spot, and still messed up,so in short, for me anyways, the fixes for both SL & DL DO NOT work.
but at least up to that spot it is friggin cool.

That's the thing. I don't have but a few DL dvds on hand. I'd rather not waste them in attempt to get it right. Maybe someone else would like to try? But it will definitely still be a problem even after I put the movie onto a DL disc, because I'm playing this from my hard drive by loading the VIDEO_TS.IFO file into Windows Media player and it's still skipping to the menu at 01:53:50, even with the DL fix. So lets fix this so that it plays from a HD first, then we can worry if it works on a DL disc.
Author

I know what you mean about the DL discs,to expensive to test with,so I wont be burning anymore,so can someone else do some DL testing.
mybe someone could try adywans new method.
Author
Time
By the way, I tested the DL fix from the hard drive with WinDVD and it's still skipping. So it's not a Media Player problem. It's definitely an issue with the files themselves.

Ok, I have figured out the jump at 01:53:50. For some strange reason DVDSP has a chapter 24 end jump set as Menu 1.

I didn't set this so it must be a bug of some kind. I didn't even know it was an option! Is this something we can correct in wtih IfoEdit or does it require a re-burn. EDIT - I have just fixed it at my end. Here are the files to fix it. Please let me know if this works for you!

'JUMP TO MENU' FIX - EDIT - Ok this works, so to those that have posted previously with non-working fixes, I would be be grateful if you could remove the links. - Cheers

And thanks to those of you who have posted review - most kind. And that ipod version looks great Nix.nux, good job!

Don't sweat it Jambe. You did an excellent job. So, no worries from my end. Even if it takes awhile to fix, I'll still be happy with what I have. I watched it last night and was quite surprised at a few things I had never even known about.
