SORRY THAT I HAVEN'T REALLY BEEN HERE OVER THE PAST WEEK, BUT I GOT MY NEW COMPUTER THE OTHER DAY. IT'S BEEN TAKING UP A LOT OF MY TIME ALONG WITH THE WIFE AND KIDS, AND WORK. I BOUGHT A MAC MINI WITH A SUPER DRIVE. THE FIRE WIRE CABLE THAT I HAVE WASN'T THE RIGHT ONE THAT I NEED TO NETWORK MY TWO MACs TOGETHER, SO I'LL HAVE TO GET A NETWORK CABLE THIS WEEK. I'M ALSO GOING TO HAVE TO GET ANOTHER MAC MOUSE. I MOVED MY iMAC MOUSE OVER TO THE MINI AND PLUGGED IN MY OLD, SHORTING OUT MOUSE TO MY iMAC. I HAVE THE WIRE TAPED UP IN A KINK IN A COUPLE OF PLACES ON IT, BUT IT'S BIT THE DUST. IT WORKED FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS, BUT IT TOO MUCH OF A HASSLE TO KEEP MESSING WITH IT. I ALSO NEED TO GET SOME SPEAKERS FOR THE MAC MINI. ALL IN ALL I'M HAPPY WITH MY NEW MAC. I'LL BE A LOT HAPPIER WHEN I HAVE MY TWO MACs NETWORKED TOGTHER THOUGH.

Any ways in which it reacts funny? Just wondering because I've been thinking about one lately. Would still like the G5 iMac, but I'm not sure when the heck that will happen simply due to money. I could easily start purchasing the components needed for the Mac Mini as I have spare cash (monitor, mouse, keyboard) and then just pay the 500-700 for the CPU down the line. Dunno yet, though.

I'm not sure when I'm getting x.4. It may happen when we finally get our iMac. That timetable has been pushed back a little bit as well.

How does it connect to the Mini? Via FireWire? If so, how many FW ports does the Mini have because I know mine would be taken up with my iPod hookup.

That is pretty cool. Do you realize that with their pricing, the best value is actually the 250 GB? If you buy two of the 250s, it costs you $500 and you get 500 GB of storage. The 400 GB costs $500 by itself. I'd say, but a 250 and then another 250 down the road when you have some more cash.

THE PROBLEM THOUGH IS THAT YOU HAVE TO HOOK UP BOTH ONE FIREWIRE AND ONE USB FROM THE MINI MATE INTO THE MAC MINI. IF YOU HAVE TO HHOK UP TWO OF THEM YOU'LL RUN OUT OF PORTS TO HOOK INTO REALLY FAST. AS A MATTER OF FACT THERE IS ONLY ONE FIREWIRE PORT ON THE BACK OF THE MAC MINI. I SUPPOSE YOU CAN GET A MULTI PORT ADAPTOR.

But if each of the MiniMates comes with two FireWire ports, why not just daisy chain them? You still wind up with one empty FW port in the first MiniMate and two empties in the second MiniMate.

I THINK IT HAS TO BE DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE MAC MINI.

I INSTALLED MAC OS X TIGER INTO BOTH OF MY MACs. IT'S SO BOSS !!! THE DASHBOARD WIDGETS ARE TOTALLY ADDICTING. I HAVE OVER THIRTY OF THEM NOW.
