Alright I back down. R2 clearly is waterproof, so that’s fine.

i mean, he can survive the radiation of space, i think they can figure out a little pesky water.

My R20000 unit fell in my swimming pool and stopped working for a few days, so I’d argue that astromechs are more water-resistant than waterproof.

You can get a watch at Wal-Mart for 5 dollars that you can take up to like 150 meters under water for unlimited time.

I bought a watch like that there in 2014. Went swimming at a 10 foot deep pool. It broke.

I didn’t even go to the bottom with it on, it was 4 or so inches below the surface, max.

So in a universe with faster than light travel, the most confusing question is how a robot can stand out in the rain?

Fun Fact: It was Kershner’s idea to have R2 on his tippy toes.

You mean it wasn’t in Kasdan’s script ?
You mean it was improvised ?

I really hope Kershner got fired !

It is quite normal to improvise a few things to improve on a great script, it is quite another to throw out the script in favor of complete improvisation. The only one I know of to be able to do that in a dramatic work was Robert Altman. When you try to turn a drama into a comedy improv, and the star, the screenwriter, and the producer don’t like how it is turning out and you refuse to follow the script, it is not going to end well for the director(s).
