And doesn't C3PO say a very similar line in SW outside the cantina?

Yes he does. After a quick listen to the Spanish audio on the GOUT disc, Threepio's line "Oh dear what now? I don't like the look of this." seems to be present. Maybe someone who knows Spanish can confirm. The French and Spanish tracks also have Chewbacca's added vocalization in place when Boba Fett makes his entrance, in the scene where Lando betrays them.

Also, member Gregaton mentioned earlier this year: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Hopefully-the-last-70mm-vs-35mm-ESB-audio-differences-thread/post/573758/#TopicPost573758 Yoda's "Ehhhh!" was there at some point before the SE. I have an old VHS tape with a recorded 1980 tv review of the movie, and a clip from that scene shown during the review features the "Ehhhh!"

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

Interesting.  Creative choices through difference mixes are easy to at least understand.  I would still love to know why Chewie's sounds are missing from Han's entrance into the Hoth medical bay.

In front of the Cantina in STAR WARS, 3PO says the same "I dont' like the looks of this" line, but it is definitely a different recording.

I wonder if this version is the sound mix that was on those clips sent to TV stations/etc. by Fox/Lucasfilm for promotional purposes. TV was still exclusively in mono, so would it be too much of a stretch that the clips sent out used a mono mix?

(I know I've seen a Siskel and Ebert episode from 1980, around the time ESB came out, which showed clips of the first film with the mono mix.)

Yeah, why I referred to Gregaton's comment was that I thought this may perhaps be another clue that this could be another theatrical mix and not just produced exclusively for 16mm prints, but I guess many TV-stations used 16mm back then. I was a little disappointed by the lack of info regarding the original release of ESB in Rinzler's otherwise superb making of book, there's some info about the shots they added at the end of the film in the 35mm version but nothing more. I had hoped it would've gone into more detail regarding the 70mm vs. 35mm differences and the theatrical mixes.

I just remembered this movie had a Betamax bootleg.

Just for funsies, let's see how it compares:

Hmm, well that didn't turn out quite as well as I'd hoped. In PowerDVD, the white clipping looks about the same, but the actual captures that it saves are clipped a bit worse.

Someone else will have to try to best me, I've got to get to bed already.

Puggo, I've been trying to get ahold of you for a couple weeks concerning a project I had in mind and wanting to know how to get ahold of some elements in uncompressed format, but I've heard nothing back. I am not sure if PM is a bad way to get ahold of you, or perhaps you've been busy, which I can understand completely - but I hope you have received my messages and I hope it would be possible to work something out.

Thank you.

I'm really glad for the PSB. I remember on watching I did seem some bars about 1/3 of the way on the left side of screen. Then noticed they went through most of the viewing. Puggo, do you know if that may have occurred in the rendering? I doubt that is due to the capture. I took a couple pics. This is where Luke is going into the cave/tree. Take a look above his hand for the bar that runs vertical from top to bottom of the screen. Sorry I did not get this posted months ago.

I have not tested play back on another player to tv. I don't think playback is happening like that on other movies that I can remember. Interested to see if you see anything similar Puggo on your master copy.

I see these faint lines too, almost like the old days on analogue broadcast were you'd get ghosting interference from other sources.

Sorry, Puggo! I was going to make covers for the whole PT (Puggo trilogy) during the holidays but time went too fast. I'll have to start working. :)

I would suggest the Japanese artwork also found on the Spanish and Australian posters. For me this always felt more representative of the overall tone of the film than the US versions did. Plus it feels a bit grittier. ;)

I agree.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

I've had a vision for the covers for months, I'm going to make them to look somewhat similar in theme so they fit together, not just making one cover as cool as possible. So I myself already know what to use. :) I just hate doing all the credits and copyright texts since every movie is a little different in terms of those. Ugh.

Is there any original covers for the 16mm films? Were TESB and ROTJ CBS/FOX release with these, too, or..? Any help would be appreciated to inspire me, LOL.

The origin of these prints is very murky, and no covers for them have been seen in the wild. The only original film covers I've ever seen are for the Super 8 digests. Derann inexplicably used ROTJ poster art for their SW Super 8 feature release.

Some of the overseas LD releases used different poster art.

Thanks for posting those, I'd never seen them before.  Although I still think I like the "standard" one better - more Vader and less cartoony.  Maybe I have to look at the other some more.
