You don't use the metric system in Greece??

The Royal Decree Number 56 (1836) On Weights and Measures, Law 2526 (1920) On Weights and Measures and the Legislative Decree 3957 (1959) On the Inroduction in Greece of the International Metric System would disagree with you... ;)

Sorry for going off on a tangent.

I've finished cleaning up reel 3.  Not entirely happy with the colors, but did the best I could with it. Incorporated the Swedish segment to replace the portion with broken sprocket holes (with masked-out subtitles). The sudden switch to the very red-shifted Swedish segment is noticeable, but better than the wobbly alternative.

Also finished encoding reel 1.  Reviewed the whole thing on my 58" screen... it's certainly grainy and very noisy, as expected.  I tested a few different resize algorithms, and given how noisy it is, I couldn't tell the difference between any of them.  So I'm just using the one in Vegas for convenience.  After reviewing the encoding, I tried another version with a very light sharpening, which improved it quite a lot (didn't think I'd say that!).  Now I'm reasonably happy with reel 1.  The curved border looks great.  Will start encoding reel 2 tonight.

Added more technical details to the website for those who are curious.

Not sure what you mean by curved border. Is that darkness around the edges like projectors show?

Today I transfered the little Public Service Announcement film that I had bought on eBay.  It was made in 1977, and urges parents to vaccinate children.  As mentioned in the eBay ad, the film was extremely red -- however, it responded spectacularly well to the CMYK color filter in Virtualdub, and now looks fabulous!  Good sound too - although the voice doesn't sound like Anthony Daniels to me.  It will make an even better extra than I was expecting.  Only 32 seconds long.

Great news! Think it's a Daniels soundalike? :p

Almost done.  I've been out of town most of the past 3 weeks, which has obviously slowed things down a bit.  And I've been redoing some of the work on reels 2 and 3.  Should be out by the end of summer.

Quick update...

Finished encoding all three reels.  Now I'm working up a brief extra which includes repair details, lead-ins/outs, and other snippets for techie nerds.

When this is done, I'll start in on the menu.  I already have the design in my mind.

This thing, with the two extras and the menu, just barely fits on a standard DVD.

Waiting with bated breath.

Thanks for the update. It's great to hear you're in the homestretch. :) I've shared the first Puggo disc with others and they've all enjoyed it. Some have asked me to let them know when the Grande is ready.
