Proposal for George Lucas re an OOT release

I was just thinking about the Warner Archives Collection, where fans order dvds directly from WB. The dvds are made to order so they don’t produce too many dvds that won’t sell. Someone makes an order, and the dvd is produced for them. They send dvd-rs though.

We can send an official proposal to Lucasfilms and/or 20th Century Fox saying we want the OOT on Bluray/DVD. We’ll place an order for the set, so they know exactly how many sets need to be made. Lucasfilms/Fox will calculate how much it will cost to produce the set including full restoration. They can calculate, based on the orders, how much to charge each fan for the set. They can include charges for authoring, packaging, etc. Further, they can set the price to be completely profitable for them.

The result: we get a fully restored, fully sealed package with all artwork, special features(if possible) true Bluray/DVD set (not BD-R or DVD-R)(same as if they sent it to retail stores) of the OOT in full and true 1080p/480p and fully, and professionally digital restoration.

They get a hugely popular and profitable release and make their fans happy, while not having any left over copies. There is no complaining about how expensive digital restoration is as we are paying for it. There is no complaining how not many people want the OOT as they will have exact orders and profits from those orders without losses.

They give a big thank you and not a F_ck you to all the fans who made Star Wars what it is today.

Now, I’m not naive, and I don’t think they will do it because they just don’t care about the fans. However, I do think that it is a legit proposal as WB and now Universal are running programs like this. I feel the organizers of this website and its users should consider my proposal seriously.

Darn, I was hoping you were going to ask for his hand in marriage.

Even though George has said so in the past, I really don't think it has anything to do with money.

George wants us to watch HIS versions of the films. Those "other versions" don't exist in his mind.

Cause if it did have to do with money, we could start a Kickstarter account and raise whatever amount was necessary in about 5 hours, probably.

If George was aware. I think you need to tell certain web news outlets to get the word spreaded. If that could work, maybe George will consider releasing the OOT on Blu (and maybe the prequels) with new state-of-the-art restorations with the DVD extras, original theatrical soundtracks (Mono, Stereo), plus more. If George did that, then all will be forgiven with the 2011 set and we can continue to enjoy SW. I mean, do it now and be done with it.

I would actually buy the theatrical cuts of the prequels (in state-of-the-art quality, as ThiefCobbler said), if for no other reason than historical preservation. TPM had the second highest U.S. box office of the 90's if I'm not mistaken. How appropriate that both it and the highest U.S. box office of the 90's are now getting 3D re-releases ....

This is a good idea. That WB program was very innovative when it was introduced, and a model program for other studios to follow. WB has always led the industry when it comes to classic movie releases on disc.

But personally, I don't think it was ever a question of money. Lucas is a billionaire, and the original is possibly the most popular film ever made second to Gone With the Wind. Plus, he has his own archive, plus Fox paid for most of the restoration in 1996 already. He has the materials, ability, and financial motivation to do this. I really wish he was as much of a sell-out as people accuse him, otherwise this would have happened a decade ago. Unfortunately it is strictly ideological, and the singular element that can change that ideology is public opinion. At the very least, that assault on reputation led to the GOUT.
