Jeeze, I go away for a few hours and the whole thread goes to hell ;)

Anyone still needing a PM, let me know.

Also, I'd appreciate feedback/corrections on the Simplified Chinese subtitles if you have any--these were based on OCR of the official subtitles, so if the OCR worked well, they should be very good, and the OCR seemed to work really well, but that's to my non-Chinese-reading eyes.

Project files have been updated to version 8.2 (original post has been updated as well). Please PM me for the temporary download links until the files are available in a more permanent location.

In order to (possibly) accommodate the upcoming release of a major preservation, I'm releasing an updated version a little earlier than I'd originally planned.  I say "possibly" because this new project isn't exactly GOUT-timed so I'm not sure how well or badly these subtitles will work for it.  Nevertheless, I'd hate for them to needlessly include my old cruddy ones, so I released what I had in its current state.

Rough summary of changes:
- Added two new languages: Persian/Farsi and Estonian.
- RTL scripts (Arabic, Hebrew) now include special "compat" SRT files, which are optimized for software that does not fully conform to the Unicode Bidirectional Algorithm (i.e. media players)
- Improvements to Spanish translations (thanks to Hostmaster and Leoj)
- Changed font for Traditional Mandarin and Cantonese (previous font was missing a character, and the fallback substitution font looked sloppy)
- Improved subtitle positioning in some corner cases where the old system didn't work well, most noticeably improved with Thai subtitles
- Created new instructions and scripts to easily allow subtitles to be modified to accompany video that does not include burnt-in alien subtitles, or for seamless branching preservations with a subtitle-free branch

As you may have noticed, we're still missing some of our big-ticket items--notably Japanese SRT files for ROTJ, and subtitle re-timing to match the burnt-in subtitles for Despecialized ROTJ 2.x.  I'll add a third big-ticket item: a script to easily convert subtitles from NTSC GOUT to other frame references.  Those will be coming, I'm assuming, in version 8.3.

Is there a guide to adding the SUP files to the DVD5 folder over on MySpleen?  I'm on a Macbook (my fastest machine) and would need to do it with OSX software as a result.

Or is there maybe a different file I should be getting?

The instructions are in the README.html file.  Muxman is the software it references, and it works under WINE, but any DVD authoring software should be able to do it.  I'm afraid my only experience is with Muxman, though.

I've been experimenting with Puggo's 16mm preservations, and the results are in:

Puggo Grande

Aside from the fact that this project's subtitles don't exactly match the mono mixes in any language other than English, it works well.  The default subtitles won't work with Puggo's releases, but scripts to convert the default subtitles will be provided in the next release.

First I wish you a happy new year. And thank you for the great work you are doing on this project.

Is it possible to send me the links for the subtitles in French for the original trilogy (Despecialized Harmy's Version)?

Thank you very much !

Hello! This is my first time posting in these forums :).

I noticed your note about how the Japanese subtitles are only available as images. I could retype them as text, if you'd like. I don't have any experience working with subtitles but I could give it a shot.

I will keep your offer in mind, but I'm currently leaning on one of our very busy other members (Sadako) to finish this job, and I'd prefer if the same translator did all three films.  The reason is that the Japanese subtitles need a little more than just transcription, they also need re-translation in places (for example, SRT files can't really deal with Furigana at all), so there's some stylistic choices and I'd like consistency between the films wherever possible.

I'm hoping to have text versions of the Japanese ROTJ subs in time for the next release of the ROTJ Despecialized Edition.

PSA--if anyone's trying to make a super-internationalized Blu-ray, Project Threepio is big enough to make a difference toward your non-video maximum bitrate (8Mbps).  If your audio options push you over 7Mbps (if you have lots of lossless tracks), the subtitles will definitely push you the rest of the way over the limit.  tsMuxer doesn't warn for this, your player will just behave badly.

So you might need to choose between multiple lossless audio options, or global subtitle support.  My bad disc had five lossless English tracks and all languages (dubs and subs), and I'll probably cut it back to one lossless track just to be safe.

Hi. Im trying to add subtitles to Harmys DE in DVD5 format. I read that i need to extract(?) the audio and the video track from the VOB file and then add the subs (SUP File) with muxman, but there are several VOB files in the video_ts folder.

My question is: How do I add the subtitles to all de VOB files? Do I need to do this process on every one of them? If yes, How do I synchronize the subs for each part?

Nvm, problem solved, Vobeditor automatically extracts all parts as a single file.
