Preserving the "Italian" Original Trilogy (Released) — Page 5

A little update:

first off, I'd like to thank everyone that's contributed to, followed, and downloaded this project so far.

I'm currently working on little tweaks for our counterpart to Harmy's 2.5:

  • I will be re-doing the audio from scratch, hopefully with better results
  • I will be fixing little errors that slipped past, a couple of things in the subs and a video glitch
  • I will be acquiring a decent VCR, hopefully as soon as possible, to capture these bad boys I bought the other day:

Currently bidding on a Panasonic NV-FS200. Fingers crossed. :)

The ebay auction ends tomorrow.

Doesn't look that good, though. Everytime there's been an offer, there's this guy that constantly outbids it by €1.

 (Edited)

Excellent idea! Here's another one from me: try paying more money than the guy who keeps outbidding you.

Doesn't sound too bad. You got another one of those cigars, Howard?

Come back, Tack! I've won the auction! Cannoli for everyone! :)

My Panasonic NV-FS200 arrived today.

Unfortunately, due to my recent hard drive crash, I'm unable to do anything other than hooking it up to the tv and watch the pretty pictures. And they really are pretty! :)

Oh, yeah, about the preservation currently on the Spleen: there should be a couple of people trying to download it right now. Sorry, folks. Can't seed at the moment. :(

Nice! That's the PAL version of the AG-1980, right?

Off-topic (to this thread, at least): Do you plan to do a capture of that bootleg Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs VHS you have?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

Lol, the request for Snow White arrived way earlier than I thought!

Leonardo, I think your NV-FS200 is the same of my NV-FS88, but yours has the TBC, IIRC... not a problem nowadays, if I need to capture VHS, I'll pass the output through a DVD recorder, and it will stabilizy the picture, right AntcuuFaalb?

I'm staying a bit off-topic too... why Snow White on VHS is so special? Is not the laserdisc - especially box set - better?

lol! It's a rare gem.

I saw one on eBay.it a while back, but didn't have the spare $50 to throw at it. Furthermore, I don't have a PAL VCR, so...

Every single home video release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs went through Disney's infamous re-animation process. This involves a lot of digital manipulation and results in a final product that doesn't look much like the original film. Read about this here: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Recommended-Editions-of-Disney-Animated-and-Partially-Animated-Features/post/644607/#TopicPost644607

The Italian bootleg VHS was dumped straight from a film print.

Also, if the NV-FS200 is anything like the AG-1980, then it's not just the TBC that's different. The AG-1980 is a much more robust machine than the AG-1970, for instance. It's capable of tracking even the worst VHS tapes (including PS78!).

Excuse me, I didn't read the word bootleg, my fault! Back to the topic now; when I was looking for the best S-VHS recorder, I (think to) remember the differences between the FS88 and FS200 were the TBC, and front input; but, as it was 20 years ago, I'm not that sure now... (^^,) anyway, both were very good recorders, and at those days only the FS1000 and FS700 were better.

We should start a S-VHS thread now, don't you think?

Yes, but I'd just call it a VHS thread. Most of us around here use S-VHS players to play VHS tapes rather than S-VHS ones.

OK, I pass you the duty... I use my S-VHS too as "simple" VHS player - I don't record tapes from a long time ago - and I think it's superior than a normal VHS recorder; well, post a link to the thread you are going to start, and I'll post something there ASAP.

Nice to see traffic in my thread, even if it's not on topic. :)

And to stay on the same theme, here's a couple of photos of my new vcr playing a tape from... I'd say more than 10 years ago.

Good ol' Fred looks stunned, he's probably amazed the vhs format still holds up so well. It helps that Hanna Barbera cartoons from the 60s had these really large areas of solid color, all you really need is a decent luma signal. :)

Wilma, Barney and Betty look very pleased. Maybe they know part of the merit for this nice snapshot is due to my Samsung LCD TV, seems to process vcr signals really well.

According to Wikipedia, that Rete4 logo dates back from at least 1999. Seems about right, but man, a long time ago that was!

Ah, those old Rete4 logo reminds me "I bellissimi di ReteQuattro"... how many beautiful movies I discovered thanks to that program... but wait, if the tape is from 1999, who recorded it? You?!? A baby VHS genius! (^^,)
