Here I post another video containing the french redone intro, Greedo sequence and ending credits :

Now I will search informations if it is possible to make a bluray with playlists in order to have the french and the english crawl on the same disc.

Woaw marvins it looks pretty awesome!  If you are interested i finally have the french audio in PCM WAV.   The audio is from my 1992 VHS but to be honest it sounds better than the 1995 THX LD.  I don't know if you noticed on the 95 LD, the sounds and musics are much louder than the voices so you can hardly hear anything about what the characters are saying and that's pretty lame for a THX transfer...  anyway, my 92 audio sounds the same as the French GOUT with a higher bitrate.

Yes, I'm very interested in your PCM soundtrack.

I didn't notice what you saying about the THX transfer but I didn't see it very much. I will take a look at that.

What the...

You made a mistake, about what?

Here we go again:

I hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty to re-create the French intro using the setup I've created for my German crawl. I've spent quite a bit of time matching fonts, character spacing and the "La Guerre des Etoiles" logo as closely as possible:

(password = ot.com)

Make sure to download the original MP4 file using the "download" button below the video. Timing is matched to Harmy's 2.0 (and I'm using its Fox logo too), so just put it at the start of Harmy's version and it will be in sync (and I guess this goes for  2.1 and - soon - 2.5 as well).

(the first time I've uploaded the video, I found an error in it, right after posting it here - hence my previous post ;) ).

What!? You took  the liberty to re-create the French intro? I can't stand this kind of behavior. You should be banned immediately!

;)

Sir, i have to tell you that it's an amazing job you did there.

It looks like the intro of the Laserdiscs, VHS and TV versions. I'm still not sure about the theatrical version tho...

The "Il y a bien longtemps..." is way bigger than the English "A long time ago..."  It seems that it was created for the video release because the original text was maybe too small to fit the 4:3 TVs back in the days.

Laserschwert: What RGB color did you use for the crawl? It's perfect!

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

That would be 255/198/0 ... but I've used and brown/red tint once letters (and logo) get far away (and thus darker).

One thing I've noticed about optically composited text (be it credits or the crawl) is the fact, that saturation gets much stronger when something fades out. So that's what I did with the title cards as well - the green of the Lucasfilm logo gets a darker but much more saturated green while it fades out and the "A long time ago" card gets a dark, but very saturated blue during the fade. And the same goes for the receding logo and crawl as well (with yellow not getting a "darker, more saturated yellow", which would just look dirty, but a reddish/brown instead).

Also rounding off the contours of text is an important factor.

Nice job Laserschwert !

I made a compare video of you crawl, mine, the crawl of the LD and the crawl of the VHS. Here it is :

https://vimeo.com/62543934 (pass = ot.com)

What you say about the saturation that increase seems to be right and you done a very good job to recreate it. I didn't do that.

You are working with AE right ? I'm using Apple Motion and it's not so powerful as AE.

Mh, somehow the pass doesn't work for me...

And yes, I'm using After Effects.

I just tried and the password work...

Yeah, it works now... maybe the video wasn't ready :)

I made a new compare video because on the first one, the differents crawls weren't good synchronized :

https://vimeo.com/62572460

And I have add another crawl, from the officiel FOX video release (video format is 4:3).

Laserschwert, I took time to look at your crawl and it's very good. Not perfect, but better as mine ! Because I don't use AE I don't think I will be able to do a better job. Would you accept to tweak a bit your settings in order to make a perfect french crawl and sent me the video ? Eventually you can send me your AE projet and I will try to do something with it, but If you agree, I prefer that you do the job :)

What I find that is not perfect in your video :

- 'Une production Lucasfilm Limited' is too big and the timing is not perfect.

- 'Il y a bien longtemps...' looks good but the timing is not perfect

- Your crawl begin 1 frame too early. The speed of the crawl is a bit too high.

So if you have time and motivation to to it, I will be very grateful !
Let me know what you think about it.

Sure, I can fix those issues. Although I have based the intro on the video you posted here: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Preserving-French-Original-Trilogy/post/577965/#TopicPost577965

I've slowed it down to 23.976fps, so the speed of the crawl should be correct (the original crawl in that video is a bit warped, so the top and bottom parts of it move at slightly different speeds). Also I've timed the SW-logo to be in sync with Harmy's video (and the rest of the video - like the Star Destroyer chasing the Blockade Runner - is in sync as well that way, so it's gotta be correct). Regarding the Lucasfilm and "A long time ago" cards, yeah, those are timed like my German cards, so I can change them to the French timing.

Do you have a reference for size and placement of the Lucasfilm logo and "A long time ago"?

Thank you very much :)

I'm not sure the first video I posted was very good capture. I redone all the capture yesterday for my compare video and all the three original french crawl are perfectly sync. And in this video we can see that your crawl is a bit too fast. If you can fix that it would be great !

What do you want for a reference. A capture of the video ?

Aren't these capture enough for you http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Preserving-French-Original-Trilogy/post/577965/#TopicPost577965 ?

I'm currently uploading the crawl from another TVrip, maybe it could help you, this one is much brighter than the official Laserdisc and VHS editions.

I've slowed it down to 23,976 fps and synchronized it with your version as well.  Plus it was letterboxed in 4:3 so i zoomed te whole thing to get the original 2.35:1 aspect ratio but unfortunately this master seems to be slightly cropped because some black bars are still there on the left and right sides.

Anyway, that should help you as a reference for the logos placement.

Someone need the "pyramid" LD french intro?!?

Quality is really low, stars are almost all disappeared, titles color is not yellow but orange (OO!)

...but if someone is still interested, here you are - untouched, only encoded with x264 at 2000kbps:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/j9xnje

(an uncompressed version is near 800MB - to me, it's useless, because of the very low quality of the source... neverthless, let me know if it is needed and I'll upload it)

Sadly my projects are lost due to an HDD crash… 😦 | [Fundamental Collection] thread | blog.spoRv.com | fan preservation forum: fanres.com |
