Not a problem. Thanks, Jetrell!

Well now....with all the limitations on size from these free hosting sites I think I'm just going to do a share someplace else...I will keep you posted.

okay, borisanddoris and ElDonante....I have a question....

"If" a torrent showed up somewhere offering this AV treat would you be okay with it and with being mentioned as the architects of this great endeavor?

If you two would be okay with "If" issue, would there be a way to get at least basic technical data on what it is and how it was done to be included?

Feel free to drop me a note if you'd like.  I think if something like this could happen it would make it far easier so others could check it out for themselves.

Cheers!!!!

If this would pop up in, let's say, myspleen I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm not familiar with myspleen's specific rules but since this is just a preservation of a soundtrack that's not available elsewhere I don't know why not. :)

This plugin for winamp is ancient, and never got updated when DTS started encrypting their CD-ROMs after about 04-05, so only films prior to that with DTS tracks could be utilized.

The plugin you used: is it called APT-X100 DTS Decoder? I remember finding this the last time the '97 SE discs appeared on eBay, but as the seller was asking silly money for the discs I didn't pursue ripping methods at the time.

You are correct that the encryption that was introduced c. 2004 was never cracked, and later discs are still unrippable.

Well done for this. I can't think of a better example of a theatrical DTS soundtrack - I still remember seeing that "Digital Experience" bumper in the cinema, too!

I found this little blurb...since I'm not as knowledgeable on these matters as some I was wondering if this had to be dealt with for the new encode to work properly....thanks.  Apologies if this has already been explained and I just wasn't comprehending properly...LOL.

the APT-X100 (v1.0) plugin for WinAmp has a very serious problem with it; all but two of the channel designations are not assigned properly.
-

You'll notice the "Play Single Channel" options on the decoder are assigned 0=L, 1=R, 2=C, 3=LS, 4=RS. Anyone who has ever balanced levels on a dts 6D would know that DTS assigns their channels differently: 0=L, 1=LS, 2=C, 3=RS, 4=R. Thus, the decoder only gets two out of the five channels right: 0=L and 2=C, out of pure luck it would seem since their L,R,C,LS,RS sequence is not standard on any cinema (Dolby or Sony) equipment or even any home theater gear either for that matter. On most equipment the sequence is L,C,R,LS,RS.

Not only does this yield the wrong channel assignments in 5.1, but the down-mix option is completely useless since you will be matrixing the L and R channels together (Rt) and the C and the LS channels (Lt). Obviously this will not produce a proper 2:4 decode.

I just wanted to say I'm sorry but I'm a little behind on this....family life and such has a wondrous way of redirecting ones path...not all bad either.

I have the files ready to go....I just need to confirm the proper content arrangement for myspleen...i.e..zip file, normal folder layout, before I begin.

Thanks to everyone for the patience on this.  It IS appreciated.  :)

Good job Jetrell :)

Okay, I got the word from myspleen ..... and the word is GO.  I am working towards getting this uploaded tonight.

On a side note, here is another DTS soundtrack that I'd like to see archived ...

Jetrell, thanks for taking the initiative here.  I'm so glad we could all work together to preserve this track, which is really special to me.  It brings me joy knowing that others are going to get to enjoy it, especially just in time for June 11!

You are most welcome.

It was the least I could do after all the hard work you 2 put in to this.  I am excited about our forthcoming project as well.  Having such a great place like this allows combined efforts to benefit everyone and it gives projects a life all their own.

We share....because we care.

Watched my "new DTS audio" enhanced version the day before...  ;)

I'm guessing the "introduce yourself" thread has gone AWOL?

I literary just registered. I was reading about cinema surround sound and a JP blu-ray review, mentioning no original 5.1. And I got here somehow, just before you uploaded it. So I checked back to see if you had uploaded it yet.

If you can find another way of publicly uploading It. It would be greatly appreciated. Its probably my favorite childhood movie. I haven't seen it for ages and I only ever watched it on VHS bootleg and TV recordings. And being the first DTS film aswell I assume a lot of care was taken to take full advantage of the new technology and show of. It would be awesome to geek out with that genuine 93 Cinema experience on a new surround setup with THX ULtra 2 Subs
Hold on to your buts!

Also which region blu-ray has this been tested with?

I was going to get the first trilogy box set released in the UK. I'm assuming that's the same 23.976p version. I will import a US version if that doesn't work out though.

I could add an introduction if you like, not much to say though.

Cheers,
Jim

Jim, welcome to the forum.

Speaking only for myself, it's always been customary to introduce one's self on any forum I've ever signed up for.  It lets community members get to know you a little.  Maybe things have changed....I meant nothing personal against you, I just felt that the "where can I get this" first post was a little presumptuous.

My apologies if that's not how you meant it.

Explanation courtesy of mok.....

FYI 23.976fps is NOT PAL. 23.976fps is what most if not all features are mastered to for video. It is not a framerate conversion from 24.0fps, it is what is called a "conform". The speed is changed by 0.1%. This has been happening for decades, and is how almost every film gets transferred to video. Many features are now even shot on video, and at 23.976fps to begin with, so there are no post-processing stages to go through. The difference is so slight it is not noticeable to anyone without direct comparison to the original speed, and hardly even then.
