Raiders of the Lost Bloopers

I've heard people praise the Indy DVDs in comparison to the SW DVDs because there were no changes made to the films, but actually not true. Did anyone else notice that the classic blooper of being able to see the cobra's reflection in the glass in the Tanis tomb was digitally erased. I screamed at my tv the first time I saw the dvd with this taken away.

Speaking of Raiders bloopers, I've searched dozens of bloopers sites, but none of them mentioned a blooper that I first noticed when I was ten (at least I think it's a blooper). It concerns the Staff of Ra. When the old man translates the medallion, he says:

Old man: ...this means six kaddam (sp?) height.
Sallah: About seventy-two inches.

So since 6 kaddam=72 in., then I believe we can safely assume that 6 kaddam=6 ft. With me so far?
Next the old man says:

Old man: 'And take back one kaddam to honor the Hebrew god whose Ark this is.'

So that would mean that 5 kaddam would be about 5 feet, correct?

Well, when Indy finally has the staff, it towers AT LEAST a foot above his head. So either the entire cast of the movie is comprised of midgets, or something isn't right here.

Yeah, I know it's real technical, but amusing nonetheless, especially to a movie freak such as myself.

Yes! My theory that Harrison Ford is indeed a legal dwarf has been confirmed!

I've been meaning to post that blooper somewhere for a very long time, but I just never got around to it. Star Wars Insider magazine even had a 20th anniversary section for ROTLA back in 2001 and it wasn't on the official bloopers list. I just found it amusing that a 12 year old (now 16) noticed something that the official movie magazine didn't.

P.S. Star Wars Insider has sucked ever since they switched publishers a few years ago. The last good issue was their 50th issue with a pre-Episode II Hayden Christensen on the cover. Man, I remember some weird stuff.

Back before Piazo publishing and whatever it is now? I know what you mean.

Yeah, exactly. I remember the first time I noticed something was going down when the Jawa Trader section started getting smaller, and with less cool stuff, and eventually it disappeared. I eventually canceled my almost ten-year subscription to the SW fan club because they changed to Hyperspace and I dind't get jack crap.

The thing I miss the most though is Anthony Daniels's "Wonder Column". I have them all except for half of the first one (that issue is missing some pages) and one from an issue they never sent me.

....Anybody got some scans?

Sort of on-topic:
one of my co-workers just told me that in the 80s his older brother had a letter published in Return of the Jedi magazine. He asked when the next Star Wars movie was coming out and what it was called and the answer, from none other then C3PO himself was that 'George is currently writing the next set of films and the next one will be called The Clone Wars and will be out in a few years' and 'I hope you enjoy it'.

As for the snake reflection in ROTLA, I don't mind that because it is actually a fix of an error, whereas the Star Wars changes alter the story. I'm sure we would have all been reasonably happy if the Special Editions were just nicer looking versions of the same film.

War does not make one great.

Nanner, try posting it to Movie-Mistakes.com. That would be a good one.

I started thinking about this while watching "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". Although it isn't necesarrily a blooper, I thought I'd wax religious anyway. I never thought about it till now, and it makes it glaringly obvious that IJATLC was written by Protestants. :

In the second trial before reaching the Grail, the clue is "The Word of God: Only in the footsteps of God will he proceed.". Indy says "The name of God........Jehovah". Being born and raised Catholic, I was confused the first time I saw this movie (which was when I was about 5 years old), because I had never heard the term "Jehovah" before. It wasn't until I took Theology II in my sophomore year of high school that I finally understood.

I'm not sure if it was in the Bible or just in ancient scripts, but God's name was written out as "YHWH", known as the tetragrammaton (there were no vowels in Ancient Hebrew). At that time, people refused to actually speak his name, which is where terms such as "Lord" came about, but that's beside the point. Now as far as I know, there are two translations of the tetragrammaton, depending on where the vowels are placed: "Yahweh", which was the one I was familiar with in the Catholic Church, and "Yehowah", which eventually became "Jehovah".

Now this is the part that might be considered a blooper. It was stated that the Grail was discovered by three knights of the First Crusade, which was launched by Pope Urban II in 1095. Since the Protestant Reformation did not occur until the 16th century, this means that there were no Protestants at the time of the First Crusade. Which means that "Yahweh" would have been the term in use, not "Jehovah"

Not trying to be really nitpicky about tiny errors in movies or anything, I was really more aiming to educate. Hope you found this interesting.

Exactly my point. There are different versions/translations of the Bible, and the King James version is the main Protestant version, and was written in Shakespearean times. In the Catholic Church, or at least the ones I've attended (and the ones which would have been most abundant during the times of the first Crusade), the King James Version is NOT the version used.

I knew someone was gonna say that.

Earlier I said I wasn't trying to be really nitpicky or anything, it was just something I noticed one time when I watched it. Hell, for all I know I could be wrong.

HEY, I'M NOT TRYING TO DEFEND MOVIE MAKERS. I THINK THAT THEY SHOULD DO THEIR COLLECTIVE HOMEWORK WHEN MAKING A MOVIE.

Call me ignorant or a Catholic-hater or whatever: whenever Catholics and the Bible are mentioned in the same breath, all I can think of is the Orange Catholic Bible in Dune.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Not sure if I should be insulted or not, as I'm not familiar with Dune at all.
