Looks the same to me.
I do like how Lucas actually admits that they could never get CG Yoda to look like he was actually in the scene and that the OT Yoda looked more realistic. Surprising admission!

They use some footage from ANH and ESB in the piece, and maybe it's just me, but things seem to look...crisper. Cleaner. HD...er. Especially the Death Star Attack footage from ANH.
Anyone else think it's something new, or is just old 2004 stuff? The explosions look 2004ish, but the ships and their animation appears newer to me.

That's the one thing he's always admitted, that he was incredibly fond of the original Yoda puppet.
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
Ever since 1997 all I heard was him complaining about how limited it was because you could never have/see him walking.
Is it just me, or is Phil Tippet slowly morphing into Ray Harryhausen?
Where were you in '77?
...Or did I only read that he'd never replace the puppet Yoda with CG in the original movies? Maye I misquoted. Very likely.

That's an interesting clip of Lucas. Wonder if that's the angle they're going to go with when they start the promotional push for a 3D re-release involving 3 less- than-beloved movies. See it in 3D because that's how it always should have been and now it won't look so fake.

I wouldn't be surprised if George would change Yoda in ESB to a CGI version for the 3-D version. He said himself CGI thinks look better in 3-D. But the 2-D version Yoda is pretty safe, I suppose.
I remember in an AotC documentary, when they were making CGI Yoda, they tested him on, well, ESB footage, so it really isn't much of a stretch that ESB CGI Yoda can appear. Either as a main or bonus feature, that remains to be seen.
I read somewhere that Yoda becoming CG was Frank Oz's suggestion. Was getting tired of the puppeteering aspect of it, like how he retired from the Muppets.
He wont replace the puppet in the OT. George loves it.

That was my thought as well. I wonder if the 3D will make the plot of Episode 2 more realistic?
Being already fake to begin with, the prequels will probably look better in 3D, but the originals will likely be somewhat worse.
Obviously, no amount of visual trickery will solve the central problem of rubbishy plots and bad dialogue and so forth (which relates to why the original movies are superior even in crude GOUT form to their jazzed up SE equivalents).
