Portable media players

HI,

Does anyone have any recommendations on a good portable media player with a reliable long lasting battery?  I was on an Alaska Airlines flight the other day, and rented their DigEplayer.  I was most impressed with the quality of the picture, the features, and most of all the long lasting power supply.  Saw two full length films and the battery was still kicking. These players are not for sale to the public, so I am looking for something close to it. A few years ago I got a COBY portable DVD player (Model TF-DVD8500) and the battery on the unit died (Stopped holding a charge) only after 15 months. COBY does not sell a replacement battery for the unit, so I am kind of pissed off about that. Any thoughts on a player with good viewing size and lasting power? I would think a high capacity SDcard of 8GB or more would also be useful.

Do you have a fairly modern Android-based or iPhone cell phone?  Can you put a microSD card in it?

If you answered "yes" to both questions, there ya go.  Copy movies or whatever to an 8G or 16G microSD card and stick the card in your phone.

^As long as you don't mind killing your phone battery when watching movies on long flights.

Maybe just get two batteries?

i think he wants a bigger screen. i saw something really cool in a store the other day it was a display for selling some tourist dvd. it was a 7" lcd screen with a dvd slot behind the screen. it was only as big as the screen with 2 little speakers on the sides. it had a headphone jack. but it was plugged to the wall so i dont believe it had a built in battery and didnt look like it had room for a battery. i wouldnt know where to get it or who makes it. it was just the coolest little portable dvd player i ever saw. mostly because it was just a flat screen with the slot for a dvd. it didnt fold like most portable players and didnt have a disc tray or door just the slot. never seen anything like it. if they took that idea and put rca inputs and a battery on it. it would be awesome. i believe what your after is called an archos tablet. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=archo+player&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=np&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=10307039678180522206&sa=X&ei=vy6_TaGjG6KD0QHChuDlBQ&ved=0CE8Q8wIwAQ#

fair sized screen+internet+touchscreen. cool gadget with enough storage for quite a few xvid movies.

I would like to play Xvid files mostly, as they are small. I'm mostly interested in such a device to keep me distracted from the more pretentious and hyperactive passengers during flights.

And

My phone is a BlackBerry from last year. The screen is way to small on phones for my viewing pleasure.

No USB port?  Is there/will there be an adapter dongle to use a standard thumb drive?  If so, there's your SD card support - get one of the thumb drives that takes the SD/microSD cards.

Yes, that is a great work around. Thanks.

I'm not as fast as I used to be.
