I don’t even understand what there is to be offended about.

I’m not offended. I’m frustrated and pissed off.

Luckily for you, this issue doesn’t affect you. Or at least, it only affects you because you’re letting it. A black dude getting beat up by a cop doesn’t have a choice about it affecting him.

with that said, I am done with this conversation.

Warbler mentioned something that I want to touch on too. Colorblindness should be everyone’s goal. If nobody even gave a thought to people’s color, then humanity would be better off. I don’t see why that’s now racist to say, but I’m never going to stop saying it.

Color blindess only works if there’s little or no racial tension or history. If there is tension or history, you have to acknowledge it in a conversation about race.

It’s also not racist to say that you’re color blind. Like people (including me) have said before, it’s just not helpful to the conversation.

I’m not offended, I just think it’s stupid. After seeing more responses it just seems like a big semantics game anyway.

I know this is going to piss you off, but this is another example of your privilege showing. It’s not stupid or semantics to the people it affects.

I’m not pissed off. I acknowledge their problems, I just don’t want to attribute them to an entire race or gender and take personal responsibility for them.

I don’t know why you think we’re asking you to take responsibility for a black man getting beat up by a cop or a woman getting paid less for the same work as a man.

But these things do happen because of their race or gender. Their race or gender, not yours.

Yes, it should be everyone’s goal. But until we have equality, we can’t just pretend there aren’t problems, and saying “I’m colorblind” signals that to other people. We have to see color until seeing color is no longer necessary.

Surely when you were younger and weren’t as “enlightened,” so to speak, you might have acted the same way that some people in this thread are.

How young?

Dom isn’t an old man like I am.

And I’m pretty sure he’s younger than both mfm and Warb.

Younger doesn’t have to be a constant, it can be a variable.

I hate it when words don’t mean what they mean.

Get angry all you like, I’m telling you the truth. White male privilege doesn’t affect you because you’re a white male. Just like me. It’s not your fault you’re a white male, so stop acting like we’re saying you’re a bad person because of it.

Ok, I think I get what you mean.

So, out of these two options, what does the word ‘younger’ mean to you?

• (the Younger) used to denote the younger of two people of the same name: Pitt the Younger.
• (younger) [postpositive] Scottish denoting the heir of a landed commoner: Hugh Magnus Macleod, younger of Macleod.

I like how the forum gives me the option to zoom in on this, and when I do it’s like my whole computer is giving me the finger.

No thanks.

I’m just going to have to assume that you’re the heir of a landed commoner and that you live in Scotland.

Bingowings sock confirmed?

Also:

I guess the moral of this whole thing is to never get involved in an internet argument about race.

I believe the idea is that everyone being truly “colorblind” would get rid of those problems.

I think people would have a lot more empathy if people would just explain specifically what their problems are rather than throw blanket statements at entire races. Like I said, I’m opposed to police brutality and all the other things you guys are opposed to, so why is it that I have to acknowledge that I’m more privileged than women and black people? That’s what I mean about it being a semantics game.

Again, the assumption that someone is racist for wanting everyone to be colorblind is what is irritating. I also hate it when words don’t mean what they mean.

Who said that?

Literally no one has said that colorblind = racist.

Obviously it would be great if race didn’t mean anything but that’s not the world we live in. Even if magically tomorrow everyone stopped caring about race, you can’t overwrite history. For example, black people will still be disproportionally economically disadvantaged due to decades of all types of discrimination.

I did say this one time:

yhwx said:

It’s not racist, per se

That per se could be misinterpreted. My intent wasn’t to say that it was racist in some way, but it could have been interpreted that way. I probably should have been clearer there.

Chris Crispy gets called a fatass

and he deserves its. Because him and the state legislature could not come to an agreement on the budget, Christie shut the state down. This included state parks that contained beaches. It closed down right at the 4th of July holiday. He was seen relaxing at a beach that was closed to the general public. Fuck him.

That’s the beach in front of the governor’s summer residence, which technically he has access to as it’s “his” house, but that he still doesn’t get how bad it looked or even faked an apology proves that he’s a jackass of high quality.

Again, the problem isn’t being color blind. It’s trying to cut the discussion by claiming to be color blind.

I don’t think there is any way that any of us can truly know whether or not we are color blind. We all think we are, but there are a lot of things about ourselves that we don’t know. And even if we were, saying so is unconvincing - especially to people of color.

Donald Trump Jr. said Tuesday he would be willing to testify under oath about his election-year meeting with a Russian lawyer who offered compromising information about Hillary Clinton.

“And you have nothing to hide,” Fox News host Sean Hannity told Trump Jr. during an interview that aired Tuesday night. “That means you’ll testify under oath, all of that?"

“All of it,” Trump Jr. responded.
