Plot holes in the SW saga

What are some major plot holes in Star Wars.

I'll go ahead and mention the one that drives me crazy the most.

Why is it that C-3PO is made on Tatooine but doesn't know where he is in ANH? And how come Uncle Owen doesnt recognize C-3PO or R2-D2 when the Jawas sell them to him? Didn't he and his family take care of C-3PO for 10 years and meet R2-D2 in AOTC? Sure many droids look alike but surely they dont all have the same names, and surely they can recognize their former owners when they see them, just like C-3PO remembered the "Maker".

Oh yeah, and why doesnt Vader look for Obi-wan and his son on Tatooine or on the Lar's farm before/or during ANH?

Remember all that discussion of memory wipes in the Zahn novels? I think it's possible that GL might spring these as a convenient loophole.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

I also think Owen knew the droids and wasn't too happy about it. He even talks about re-erasing their memory - hehe, probably to get the job done right this time.

Does 3PO look the same after 20 years...No (Wath ANH again, and you'll see that 3PO never mentions his name to Owen)

Does 3PO and R2 get their memory wiped by the end of Ep3...Yes (George says so himself)

Coz Vader does'nt ever want to go back to Tatooine after his mother dying and all that shit!!! (Where better to hide someone that doesn't want to be found, than a place where the person looking will never go to)...Make sense...no

Nah, I would rather say Obi-Wan chose a place no one would choose to hide - under Vader's very nose. Just my two cents.
Author
Time
Hardley under his nose...seeing how Vader probably hasn't been to Tatooine in like 20 years...

Anyhow...How can you go on about Plot holes when the plot isn't even finished yet!!!

Man...Wait till Ep3 then start going on about plot fucking holes.....!!!!

Man!!!

* sigh *

For the last time, this is what is going to happen on episode 3 before the star wars logo appears: we'll see obi-wan, anakin, C3PO, R2-D2, owen and beru running towards each other, on the tatoonie desert. They'll hit each other's heads, and fall to the ground with their memories wiped out. Then GL will appear and say somtehing like "woo, that was a close one! almost forgot about that plot hole! and now for something completly different...", and the star wars logo appears.

Either that, or he'll just ignore that plot hole, and during a press conference to promote episode 3:

"Mr. Lucas, first let me congratulate you on your 6 near-perfection films that compose the amazing star wars saga."
"Thank you."
"But one question remains unanswered: why dosen't C3PO tell Luke he is the son of his creator, and why dosen't he recognizes Owen Lars?"
"F##k! Damn I knew there was something missing... Ok, George, don't panic, do NOT panic, you are in control here..!"
"Mr. Lucas, we can hear what you are saying. You are thinking out loud."
"Shut up, shut up! Ok... The thing is... this happened because of... evil sith-related ewok magic powers. And it'll all be explained on a scene I'll include on the Prequels Special Edition. Now, this press conference is over! Guards, kill'em all!!"

None of those are plot holes. There are some plot holes in Star Wars. As there are in all movies.

One the actress who plays Beru in Attack of the Clones has brown eyes the actress who plays were in A New Hope has blue eyes.

In A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, the Clone Wars cartoons, and Attack of the Clones the clones are shown as very efficient warriors but in Return of the Jedi they can't kill more then a few ewoks.

Why would the Empire build another Death Star after how easily the last was destroyed.

Padme tells a clone after she falls out of the ship "we got to get to that hanger" how did she know about the hanger

In the Clone Wars cartoons Mace wipes out droids without his lightsaber he couldn't fight this well in Attack of the Clones

In The Phantom Menace when Darth Maul appears in front of them why doesn't Padme order her men to fire. Even he could not block that many shots. Instead the Jedi handle it resulting in Qui-Gons death

In The Phantom Menace when the Jedi coucil arrives on Naboo a bald black man comes out who is suppose to be Mace Windu but is clearly not Samual L Jackson.

In Attack of the Clones Padme gets scratched across the back rips off her entire midriff and sleeve. No way that scratch could do this. It did give excellent visual benefit.

Ok, here goes nothing:

1- She had a terrible accident with a laser beam. Both of her eyes are made out of glass.
2- As I said before: those were the BEST ewoks ever born, and that was the most incompetent stormtrooper army ever.
3- As I also said before: if at first you don't succeed... (and oh, do you think it was EASILY destroyed?)
4- Even I knew about the hanger. Well they told her on the way: "padme there is a hanger." - "cool."
5- He had the flu that day. Look closely, you can see his running nose.
6- She didn't even know exactly who that was, did she? You don't order people to shoot people you don't know.
7- There is more than one black bald man in Naboo.
8- It sure did

Heres what I have to say about your explainations ricarleite.

1. Where did you hear that from
2. Why would the Empire send incompitent Storm Troopers
3. A space station the size of a moon was destroyed by a one man fighter. Thats pretty damn easy.
4. No Padme was not told about the hanger. They blindly followed Tyrannus there.
5. The flu give me a fucking break
6. I guess that explaination does work a bit
7. But not more then one bald black man in the Jedi council
8. At least we agree on something

1- She told me in a dream (it was a joke)
2- Uh... they had some budget problems because of the new death star (also a joke)
3- If it wasn't for Luke's strongness with the force, they would have failed.
4- Uh... Qui-Gon told her, speaking into her mind (joke)
5- It was flu season (it was a joke, jesus, calm down!)
6- Good.
7- Is that so
8- We sure do ;P

After 20 years they look the same to me.

This is a huge plot hole, there is no explanation to it. The only explanation is that Lucas needed a way to bring all the characters together without wasting story and budget by having the characters drive across the galaxy just to pick up C-3PO. You can go on about your damn memory swipe theory, but I'm going to be laughing in your face when Lucas doesn't even aknowledge this in Ep3.

1. Maybe she got contact lenses because her sight isn't as good as it used to be. Why the hell would you even notice her eye color anyway?
2. How do you know they're clones? Are all storm troopers clones?
3. Maybe it was going to be a better Death Star. After all the first one didn't have a shield generator to keep enemy space ships away, and the second one had the main source on the inside rather than on the side.
4. Maybe she saw the hangar right before she fell out of the ship. I think you can see a long way when you're aboard an aircraft, right? And where did they think Dooku was going? To camp out in the rocks somewhere?
5. I dont watch cartoons, sorry.
6. Because only jedi can handle other jedi/sith knights.
7. I guess GL didn't mean for people to zoom in on the bald black guy with their dvd player. It was obviously a stand in since Jackson wasn't available. That happens in movies sometimes.
8. Of course it could happen.

All storm troopers are clones. Lucas has stated this mulitple times. I didn't need lucas too. I figured it out the second I saw them standing in there stormtrooper white outfits. You really should have too. Also if droids can kill Jedi then I am sure laser fire can kill sith as well.

I think the explanation for OB1 bringing Luke on Tatooine is basically because Owen and Beru live there and he thought they could best bring Luke up. And that would be the last place vader would go and look for him, but imo he does not even know Luke exists prior to ANH. But we'll see in ep3 i guess.

balls! I'd written an epic response & forgot to log in & lost all the info

Anyway I'll see how much of it I can remember!

To start with:

All stormtroopers being clones.....I have NEVER read anywhere that stated that ALL Stormtroopers are clones! I think it's fair to assume that in the early days of the Empire THIS IS the case...but 20 years later???? A GALACTIC EMPIRE only using clones??? I think it's ok to assume that DRAFTING from other planets WOULD take place. Do all the Imperial Officers look the same throughout the Star Wars saga? Nope don't think so! Even Han Solo WAS an Imperial Oficer until he killed his Commanding Officer to save Chewbacca (But D-jj-d that's EU & don't count for sh**!!) Well whatever!

Even Luke at one point during ANH states his intentions of joining the Academy & I HOPE I'm not the only person that realised HE DIDNT MEAN joining the Rebellion! Whats to say that had he followed his goal, he wouldnt have ended up joining the Stormtrooper Regiments?

Ok moving on....................3PO not recognising anyone after living on Tatooine for 10 years, well I dont think you need to be a rocket scientist to work that one out! As for Owen not recognising him.....well here's a few thoughts:

1. Whilst 3PO was living with the Lars, he's still naked until Shmi kindly clothes him IN SPARE PARTS! (dont believe me...go read the novelisation of AOTC)

2. When 3PO returns its 20 years later, he's had a bit of a make over & I sure as hell wouldnt recognise him, especially as he's NEVER referred to by name in front of Owen during ANH. There are LOADS of protocol droids flitting around the Galaxy doing there own thing....re watch the prequels & the OT theres a few about to be seen!

The one comment i DO strongly disagree with thats been raised so far is that of Obi Wan delivering Luke to Owen......

My only problem with this scenario is:

HOW DOES OBI WAN KNOW ABOUT OWEN? So far in the PT he hasnt met him...maybe this will be addressed in Ep3?

Maybe (SPOILER WARNING)..........................

Its Padme's dying wish to Bail & Obi Wan that Luke be taken to live with the Lars (Anakin tells Padme in AOTC that they're good people & she'll be safe with them) but until May 19th we wont know how GL ties up these loose ends!

About the "stormtroopers are clones" thing, did anyone here ever played the game Tie-Fighter? I had a friend that owned that game, and I remember reading some sort of fic that came with the game, in which two friends join the imperial army, one of them wants to fly tie-fighters, another one chooses to be a STORMTROOPER. But hey, this is George "plot holes" Lucas we're talking about.

True the empire did recrut non clone troops but not Stormtroopers. There clones. They have no fear of dying and never even remotly disobey an order to the point where they seem inhuman.

as far as i can remember, Stormtroopers were always clones in my book.

In Tales From Mos Eisley Cantina by Kevin J Anderson, one of the short stories concerns itself with the young Stormtrooper who says "Look Sir, droids!!!" in ANH.

The story starts with his being drafted INTO service, firstly as an AT-AT driver, where he basically picks up on the one weakness that At-At's have & for his troubles he is carted off into the service as an Imperial Stormtrooper. He IS NOT A CLONE! lol

Anyway don't want to start a HUGE argument so how about we agree that there is a mix of Clones & non-Clones in the Stormtrooper army by the time the OT occurs? That way noone has to admit they were wrong & we can all get on again & enjoy a nice hot piece of pie with some hot chocolate whilst we smoke long Cuban cigars :>

I recall reading a novel in which Luke comes across a stormtrooper on a long forgotten planet and makes friends with him (can't remember the name... it was one with a child who could control machines using the force). Anyway from memory he was a normal man who joined the imperial forces and was brainwashed, he wasn't a clone... I would imagine that after the "Clone wars" most of the clones created would have been killed; remember it takes many years to create the clones. So the Empire would have to start recruiting normal people as storm troopers out of necessity. Otherwise all the officers in the other movies would be clones too. Also all the clones have NZ accents, but none of the storm troopers in the other movies do... OK so I'm being pedantic now...

As for those plot holes mentioned at the beginning:

Why is it that C-3PO is made on Tatooine but doesn't know where he is in ANH?
Simple: C3PO is an idiot. :-)
And how come Uncle Owen doesnt recognize C-3PO or R2-D2 when the Jawas sell them to him?
Couple of possibilities here: Maybe he did recognise them, but didn't want to say anything as Luke would have started asking awkward questions? Or maybe he just assumed logically that they were totally different droids, remember there could be thousands that look like them. In either case, he obviously realises later when Luke mentions Obi Wan, so decides to get the memories erased. ( I just noticed you mentioned about droids looking alike, so maybe the first theory is better)
Why doesnt Vader look for Obi-wan and his son on Tatooine or on the Lar's farm before/or during ANH?
I don't think he knows about Luke or Leia at that point. As for ObiWan, maybe he thinks he is dead? ("Surely he must be dead by now")I have often wondered if Vader realises he has sent his troops to murder his own step brother...

Now, for Jimbos plot holes:

One the actress who plays Beru in Attack of the Clones has brown eyes the actress who plays were in A New Hope has blue eyes.
Who cares? Maybe she is wearing contact lenses. Maybe she is a humanoid species whos eyes change color as they get older. Maybe her eyes were replaced with artificial ones. Or maybe the people who cast her didn't think anyone would notice...
In A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, the Clone Wars cartoons, and Attack of the Clones the clones are shown as very efficient warriors but in Return of the Jedi they can't kill more then a few ewoks.
See above re the clone thing... another explanation may be that the stormtroopers were out of practice as they never had to fight any real battles any more... they weren't expecting any resistance... but actually I do agree to a point, especially since they are supposed to be Palpatines "best troops". One thing that irks me is when Chewbacca commandeers that walker. I mean, if you were in a tank and someone climbed on top of it, would you just open the hatch and let them in? Sheesh.
Why would the Empire build another Death Star after how easily the last was destroyed?
Luke summed that one up nicely: "YOur overconfidence is you weakness". The Emperor believed he was prepared this time; he had forseen the destruction of the rebels, he had fed them misinformation, and he was to arrogant to believe anyone could defeat him.
Padme tells a clone after she falls out of the ship "we got to get to that hanger" how did she know about the hanger?
I'd have to watch that bit again to be sure, but I imagine someone mentioned that Dooku was headed for his ship before she fell out. Could be wrong though.
In the Clone Wars cartoons Mace wipes out droids without his lightsaber he couldn't fight this well in Attack of the Clones
Meh... it's a cartoon. Who cares (obviously I don't).
In The Phantom Menace when Darth Maul appears in front of them why doesn't Padme order her men to fire. Even he could not block that many shots. Instead the Jedi handle it resulting in Qui-Gons death.
I have only watched that "film" once so can't comment. If you want to talk about plot problems in that film how about: A child "accidently" defeating an entire blockade single handedly; Or a group of supposedly incredibly wise Jedi relying on an idiot who speaks and acts like a two year old to save a planet; Or the most obvious mistake of all, that this "film" was ever made and released at all...
In The Phantom Menace when the Jedi coucil arrives on Naboo a bald black man comes out who is suppose to be Mace Windu but is clearly not Samual L Jackson.
Dunno; See above.

George said in the audio commentary for Attack of the Clones that the Stormtroopers are clones of Jango fett. No nobody tells Padme about the hanger. Trust me I have seen Attack of the Clones at least 20 times. Maybe more.
