My advice, don't listen to critcs. Wait and watch the movie and decide for yourself.

What makes this guy so special in the early 1700's?

Might I say like 250 years before he was born.

Oh, don't worry about me, I don't listen to critics.

Sometimes I think critics are so full of shit. All they do is bash movies to be bashing movies . Most movies that get rated awful by critics end up being my favorites. Funny how that happens.

Off topic, but I wouldn't trust the San Fransicso Chronicle at all. They're the rag that gave the ORIGINAL Matrix film a 2.5 out of 10.

A few examples of movies that I like, that a saw get trashed were sahara, serenity, and doom.

Sahara and Doom were decent...

Who the buh trashed Serenity? Serenity was an awesome flick.

Man, Doom wasn't even decent. It was pretty much the epitome of a bad film, to be honest. Like, the single redeeming factor about the movie was Clint Mansell as the composer. Coincidentally, Mansell also composed for Sahara.

Anyway. As far as Pirates go, I thought the first one was average. Like, it wasn't bad, but at the same time I didn't see anything special about it. So, I'm pretty much indifferent towards the sequels. I'm sure I'll see them at some point, but I'm in no hurry to.

The last two got trashed very badly even though they were nice movies.

I went to see tghis last night and I thought it was such a fun movie.
I'm not the biggest fan of the first one, I thought it was ok but nothing special.
I loved this one. It's just a fun film.
And it ends on a cliff hanger that you just want to see the third one right away.

Also...stay past the credits!

I have a feeling the movie will be poo, but I'll see it anyway. Not opening weekend, but soon after. I'm seeing it for 2 reasons: Johnny Depp, and pirates. I wouldn't see it ONLY for Depp, but it has the pirate combination thing going. Still think it will be poo tho. Pirates are cool!

It's not poo...it's a good film.
Think of it like 'Empire strikes back'. It has that middle part of the trilogy feel to it. It's not often I watch a film with a smile on my face all the way thru.
I think it's my fave film I've seen all year.

Well, that's cool. And it would be easy to like it if I just keep telling myself it's like the Empire Strikes Back. I think I should've done that when I saw Superman Returns. Hmm.

mmm Not seen Superman yet, won't be out here till next week.
I do hope it's good. That's the film I was most looking forward to seeing this summer, so to like Pirates was a bonus.

Oh yes, you MUST see Superman Returns (I seem to be the official gusher of this film. I've seen it twice.)

And Pirates 2...well, I wasn't all that wow'd by the first film (it killed an afternoon for me) and the second film? All I can say is "ehh" with a shrug.

Oh I will watch Supes next week. Can't wait

"ehh" does that mean you've seen it and thought it was just "ehh", or aren't too bothered in seeing it?

I was like you with the first one. It was just ok. I dunno, maybe because it was my birthday, it was sunny and warm, I had a few beers before hand, was just in a good mood, that I enjoyed the film as much as I did. Don't think I can watch it again so soon though. Maybe when 3 is out next year I'll pick up the box set.

I LOVED the first movie, and I really liked this one too, in an entirely ESB kinda way. I loved and hated how everything was left up in the air, and I felt as though the Black Pearl had really become something like the Millenium Falcon (and Sparrow, Solo). I too was smiling pretty much all the way through this film. It was a fun film with a lot of heart - perhaps not as much dialogue for Sparrow as I would've liked - but great action and great laughs. I liked what they did with Norrington as well; I've really warmed up to him. But I do think that perhaps they tried to develop too many minor characters at the expense of fleshing out the mains.

AND I DIDN'T STAY BACK AFTER THE CREDITS DAMMIT!!! NOW I'LL HAVE TO GO SEE IT AGAIN!

Does anybody want to tell me what happens? Even PM me about it if you're worried about spoilers?
MTFBWY. Always.

I appear to be the only one who was not that enamored of the first Pirates. I thought that it was decent popcorn chomping, but little else. Then again, I though the same thing about Steven Summers's The Mummy. I don't think them bad films, simply mediocre. Critics are always tricky. On hand, there's the "lighten up, it's just an action flick attitude." On the other hand, Star Wars, Aliens, The Terminator, The Wild Bunch, The Empire Strikes Back, Seven Samurai, Face/Off, The Road Warrior, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Return of the Jedi, Jaws, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Tower, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Saving Private Ryan, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Fort Apache, The Searchers, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Winchester '73, X-Men, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, 3:10 to Yuma, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Spider-Man, X2, Batman Begins, Superman Returns, Spider-Man 2, Superman: The Movie, King Kong, Superman II, and Foreign Correspondent, to name a few films all offer up plenty of action without insulting your intelligence and often offer up far, far more than sound and fury. Of course, after a hard day at work, sometimes I just want to kick back and watch The Lost World: Jurassic Park or Blade II rather than a Bergman film, with some sugary candy to chew on. So, both side have merit. I saw Superman Returns the other day, by the way, and whatever flaws it may have it is well worth seeing, if only for Spacey.
