Wait so these are two separate Highlander II edits?
Author

Correct, the Extended Zeist will also include the fairytale ending plus a host of bonus material. See details in past entries here.

I joined the forum just to say how happy I am about these Highlander II edits. The Renegade cut is the first version I ever saw. I hated the Quickening version after I eventually I saw it, but I honestly loved the idea of Zeist. I think most people are too bullheaded to give it a chance and understand what Zeist really means (don't ask me, because I won't explain it to you) probably mostly due to the horrible edit of the original release. I've been collecting copies of H2 for years (see photo), but this has to be the copy that I'm most excited to get. I can't wait for the Extended Edition either. So keep seeding and thanks so much.

Hope this gives someone some ideas for a new cover for this edition.

Where do you live, are they all DVDs? Which region. How Different are all those releases?

I live in the States. In this photo, the poster is a blow up of the art for the Region 2 release. All the rest are releases in the States. The cover in the top right is for the blue shield SE DVD.
The rest are all of the American VHS releases in chronological order from top to bottom. The left row is all Quickening versions and they are all exactly the same, only the distributor and covers change. The VHSs on the right row are the red shield Renegades, full screen and widescreen.

The article pinned up there is from a some type of video preview magazine I got free at a rental store. It talks about the release of the red shield Renegade on VHS and Laser Disc.

I also own the Region 2 VHS relase, but it's not up there. So I own a total of 8 copies of Highlander 2. I watched the full screen VHS of the Renegade version so many times, I wore the tape out. I'm gonna write a book someday about all my experiences collecting those tapes, but I still have a lot to collect:

I initially thought this would be the European theatrical cut but re-checking with lddb.com I see the timing is listed as 92 minutes. That is at least about 6 minutes more than the French DVD (which uses the US theatrical cut) but I don't see that as any real proof of this having the fairytale ending intact.

Anyone own the French laserdisc or knows where one can locate it? Since it is listed as being 2.35:1 on the laserdisc it should be easy to lift the fairytale ending off of that one (If if it is on it that is) and make a proper version in the correct aspect ratio.

Like I said before in this thread, I have the french Laserdisc from Delta Video and it features the European Cut with the fairy tale ending, in 2.35:1.

Wooo-hooo!!!! Ash, can you confirm the playing time as 92 minutes. According to both the Norwegian Media Authority and the Swedish "Biografbyrån" the full version of the European theatrical was 100 minutes and 33 seconds. Even with correcting it for PAL speed-up there is still some difference.

I can't right now since I am moving in the following days and the laserdisc is already in a box. I will tell you ASAP

No hurry, Ash. Even if it has been shortened it is good to know there is a proper release of the fairytale ending around.

the fairytale ending on the LD has the same running time as the one on youtube if my memory is correct

okay... since I now see that there are some Highlander 2 experts on here... can it be said how many (non-fan-edit) versions of Highlander are available and on what mediums? Thanks!

The Us Cut (French region 2 dvd from TF1 Video) 2.35:1 16X9
The Renegade Cut 1997 (on region 1 from Republic) 2.35:1 4X3
The Renegade Cut 2004 with new SPFX (on region 1) 2.35:1 16X9

The closest to the international would be the old French VHS and laserdisc release by Delta but that is of course only with French dialogue and out of print. No other commercial release is or has been available.

It is the US cut as well. 86 minutes long.
dvdcompare needs a bit of a clean-up/correction regarding the Highlander titles, not just H2. I've been meaning to do so but been busy.

When we release the Extended Cut/ The so called International Cut scenes are 1:85.1 - This is from an OOP German LD that was horibly created. The German LD had only german dialog and it was dubbed horribly. Keep in mind we had to take my TV cut and clean the music up and then use that for the audio with the 1:85.1 footage. I do have a cut of Highlander II - International Cut in widescreen 2:35.1 but it jumps and the picture is horrible, almost unwatchable, and the color is gone.

So in order to have the best possible quality cut we used the OOP german video coupled with several other versions of the American Cut, etc.

We created a disclaimer at the start of the film teeling the audience that we have used the best possible sources.

Remember, Highlander, you’ve both still got your full measure of life. Use it well, and your future will be glorious.

Idea for new cover. I threw this together quick. It's based off the French DVD.

PM me your critiques. We can work on changes together. Need a lot of help on what to put on the backside.

You really are into this film are you not?! Anychance you have any of the above covers downloadable in hi-res?

I have them all individually and they're as hi as I found them. Most of them are pixelated and pretty low quality, so they wouldn't make that great of supplement to a DVD or anything. I'll email you what I have, if you want.

I'd love to have them all hi-res someday or have the actual videos and scan them myself.

Here's my latest changes. Still need to work on the Quickening beam and find a higher res of Connor in that pose. Pluse the text on the back will probably different.

Question: Should this cover just be for the SZE or a 2-Disc set for SZE and the Extended Edition?

Already fixed that "Zeist" typo.

Track100 raised the issue of the Italian H2 dvd release over at the HLBB and I found this link:
Link

The DVD is listed as 95 minutes long, is in widescreen but has Italian dub only. In either case this one should make it a heck of a lot easier!

EDIT: This site however states the length as 88 minutes! Damn them, can't they pick one length and stick to it!!!

EDIT #2: dvd-world.it lists it as 109 minutes which means either Renegade Version or 2004 Special Edition!
