I think it’s a good casting. I have Batman nerd board friends who are already claiming… “it’s an abomination” - “it’s the end of the franchise” - “I’ll never see it”, “how could they be so wrong?”…etc, etc.

All those criticisms and outcries were every bit as present when Keaton was cast as Batman, Affleck was cast as Batman, and Daniel Craig was cast as 007.

Full disclosure, I’ve never seen Pattinson in anything, but by all accounts of co-stars and directors, he has the chops. I love Matt Reeves’ work on Planet Of The Apes, so no problem there either.

To me: the right actor, a great story, a great costume, and a great director could give us the best Batman film we’ve had in decades.

Pattinson will never live down Twilight, no matter what he does, and he has a most impressive post-Twilight resume. It’s not easy to re-invent yourself as a character actor after a hit t(w)een drama, but that’s pretty much what he did. He’s really worth following - it looks like his next film is The Lighthouse, and it looks amazing:

That said, I don’t really care for Matt Reeves all that much. I liked Dawn, somewhat enjoyed the other two, really disliked Let Me In, can’t bring myself to care the least bit about Cloverfield or that Schwimmer vehicle.

Probably a solid choice of a machine-tooled studio blockbuster.

The only response that one got out of me was a single chuckle (the bit with the cats) which is odd, because it should’ve been right up my alley. I don’t remember much outside of the fact it didn’t work for me at all. I’ve been meaning to give it another go at some point.

Man, that looks very interesting. Took me a second to recognize him.

Never understood that attitude. The world will not end, life will go on. You’re not forced to watch it with your eyes held open ala A Clockwork Orange, you can still continue to enjoy the graphic novels or whichever cinematic depiction that you prefer.

I honestly don’t mind this casting. Being an acrobatic superhero, it makes better sense for Bats to have a lithe figure than a muscle-bound one.

Now, if only they can ditch the ugly rubber/kevlar Batsuits and return to the classic:

I think this is the best option for Pattinson to get out of the role he hated most of all. It’s been almost ten years since the last Twilight movie. Gotham needs Batman, and we need a new image that the director can create. I think it will be interesting.

First look.

Not crazy about the sigal being a device, but we’re so far from release there’s no way of knowing what’s going to be the final product. I love what Reeves has done with Planet Of The Apes, so I’m optimistic that we’ll get a solid story. I think Pattinson is perfect for the part. This is the first Batman film I’ve looked forward to seeing in decades. Fingers crossed.

And my interest has fallen to 1%. Yet another ugly “realistic” Batsuit with too many parts and textures. Whatever happened to the suit being patterned after the classic blue-&-gray costume?

As someone who genuinely loves Silver Age-Copper Age superhero comics, it’s disheartening that there hasn’t been a single superhero film made in the last decade which captures the spirit of those comics. Everything is homogenized or gritty or “realistic”, and I’m sick to my stomach of it.

Something bugged me the first time I saw that clip, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. Having seen the clip a couple more times, I’ve now realised what it is: they don’t show us the ears of the mask!

Will they be long (Keaton), medium (Bale), short (Affleck), or micro (West)?
Will there be any ears at all?
Will Pattinson find his ears before it’s too late?
Tune in next year, same bat time, same bat channel, blah blah blah

I just hope he has the white eyes. From what I can tell he sorta half has them.
