Pan's Labyrinth

was just curious as to who had seen this movie here.
i know many of us are film buffs but ive heard very little around the community about this.

I just saw it the other night myself and fell in love with it. There is no doubt in my mind that its been my favorite film of 2006.

For those who had seen the movie, i pose a question to you.

[SPOILER ALERT!!!!]

what is your opinion on the faun, book and fairies? were they all just in her imagination or were they a part of reality?
i was of the belief that they were in her head at first until my brother pointed out the fact that they must have been a part of reality for the simple fact that the root was found under the bed and had a significant effect when burnt, as well as the fact that the bleeding book told the future of her mother's complications at birth (which we then see when she goes outside to find her mother bleeding).

however it doesnt explain the fact that the captain cannot see the faun at the end of the movie. or why the little girl is dead at the end and not in her kingdom reigning as princess.

any thoughts perhaps?

[END OF SPOILER!!!!]

I must say that anyone who wants to see a truely beautiful movie must check this out. Of course its not suitable for a younger audience and if your squimish during scenes with violence or mutilation you may not find it your cup of tea. But in the end i think it must be experienced by all.

FYI, its subtitled.

here's the trailer for those who are interested.

It's a pretty damn rad flick. I've been psyched for it for a while, and yelled at my mom a lot after she saw it early at the Toronto Film Festival this past September.

It was truly beautiful, and sad. The only thing that stopped this really damn good film from being really great was that all of the characters were extremely static. They were all classic character types that all remained unchanged for the duration of the film. It worked because it was basically a dark fairy tale, but it did wind up holding the true impact back a bit.

I absolutely love this film. I had wondered why this film was rated R at first before I saw it. Nevertheless, it was a great story and imaginative. Del Toro knows and understands myth and does it right here.

I believe that what Ophelia experienced was real because of the mandrake, and her mothers slight reaction when it was thrown in the fire.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.

Lotsa dark subject matter. Violence.

I would say mostly because of the violence. Not in the fantasy world taht he discovers, but the real world. Also even though it's in Spanish, the subtitles still use the F word several times.

Hmm, I will have to check this out. Sounds like one of those rare gems lost in the vast amount of garble Hollywood constantly craps out into out cinemas.

I think I'd like to see it, but I couldn't watch the preview very far. I hate previews that ruin good scenes and good surprises.

There aren't any theaters within a hundred mile radius of me that are playing this movie!!

A masterpiece. I love Guierrmo del Toro. One of the best directors working today. I think that, as he did in his companion film masterpiece The Devil's Backbone, he is using the war as a metaphor for the fantasy and vice versa. I think that whether or not the fantasy was actually happenining or a figment of the girl's imagination was the point of the film. It's left open to interpretation.

I have yet to see "The Devil's Backbone," but I saw "Cronos" and I thought it was just sort of "meh."

And I've only seen screenshots of this movie so far, and is it just me, or do the monsters look awfully "Hellboy"-ish?

Wow. The movie was beautiful. Very dark (in ways I was not expecting) but very powerful.

I might be getting to see this movie next weekend, so to give myself an idea of what I would be in for, I rented "The Devil's Backbone," which is also a Guillermo del Toro film. One of the best ghost story movies I've ever seen. 9/10

Very nice set. It's NTSC, region 3. I've transferred it to a region 0 NTSC dvd-r to play in my regular dvd players (I only have 1 region free player). The copy is perfect.

Man, that's a really nice set! I hope the R1 version is that nice!

I wonder why it's already been released there, yet we still don't have a set date over here!

Not sure why. Other countries get lots of films before we do! It's understandable when it's a foreign film, but I never understood how/why some countries will get US movieson dvd long before we do!!??

Or better versions, like the Japanese Kill Bill set.
