Info: Palpatine's Duels - my 2 edits for his Episode III duels...

I’ve been working on edits of the two Lightsaber fights with Sidious in Ep. 3, trying to make them more frightening and intense.

The password for both videos is “fanedit”

Mace v Sidious: https://vimeo.com/358177808

-The idea was to make Sidious seem more menacing and monstrous.

-Took the timpani from the very beginning of the movie and added it throughout both fights. I’m thinking of it as a motif representing Sidious’ machinations behind the war.

-Used a black screen in between very short shots to let the audience imagine just how Palpatine kills three Jedi so quickly and violently, making their deaths seem more horrific.

-Also darkened the whole scene as soon as they start fighting to try to show that Sidious’ power with the dark side is affecting the Jedi throughout the fight, making the atmosphere dark and heavy. The brightness goes back to normal when Mace kicks Sidious in the face, showing that his concentration and therefore his powers have been disrupted. I’m not really sure about how well this works—would love to hear feedback on it! I’m considering adding a similar effect to the other fight.

-Would maybe put Palpatine’s crazy spin-jump thing back in, I think it could possibly work right before the cut to black… but right now it’s not in there.

Yoda v Sidious: https://vimeo.com/411766548

-It seems a lot of people cut the Yoda/Sidious fight altogether on the basis that it’s just kind of played for laughs, so I tried to trim it and make it a little more interesting to justify the space it takes up. I think there are some really cool moments in there along with the silliness, so I tried to bring those out.

-Did the same thing with the black screen in between short shots to add intensity and mystery to the fight, as though these two masters of the Force are fighting on another level entirely and we can only catch glimpses of it.

-Replaced the music and removed sound effects to create a darker, more oppressive atmosphere.

Anyway—I made these for my own viewing, with the intention of adding them to someone else’s existing fanedit of Ep. 3, but I thought I might as well share them here in case someone wants to use them. Feedback is welcome! Thanks.
