I believed Lucas and LFL when they said this would be the last time to own/see the original SW. That was 96 or so, and the changes have proved them right.

Given that they are releasing the original SW again, how has the statement of 1996 been proven right?

Absolutely, yes. I've even put money aside and marked it "Star Wars DVD money".

"I am only getting ESB. I can do without ROTJ because it was the least specialized, and I don't watch Star Wars as much as ESB."

You could say that ESB was the least specialized...

"This will NOT be the final release of the OOT."

So? I would much rather buy the September release then be bitter and sour while waiting another eleven years for the next release. This is the first time the PRE-ANH version has been released on home video, and it may very well be the last time too - I think that makes it an excellent release.

None of us here like Lucas or Lucasfilm.
I have death wishes on Lucas and Macullum.
we could all probably get 10s of thousands of dollars!

If I knew for certain that it was being released again, I wouldn't go anywhere near this set. I have standards and this set doesn't meet them. However I will give in for ESB, only because it is my favorite.

hell you will probably find at your favorite torrent sites, someone already has done this for you, made them anamorphic and then releasing.

The point is that they shouldn't have to. Lucasfilm is a multi-billion dollar company and is not only capable of releasing a proper release. Lucasfilm richly deserve every ounce of criticism leveled them for this DVD release, and Lucas deserves it for trying to suppress the originals and then mistreating them.

Mike O, Lucas will make sure this is the final release of the OOT with whatever power he has. He slipped this time to stop bootleggers. And The OOT will never be released in HD in good quality, and we probably wont see the substandard blu-rays until 2015.

How much power does he have? And what can we believe from him anyway? Let's review. "Star Wars will never be released on video." It was. "Star Wars will never be show on televsion." It was. "None of the Star Wars films will come on on DVD until after the PT is over." They did. "The original films will never be released on DVD." They were. "Now we'll find out whether people really wanted the originals or whether they wanted the improved versions. It'll all come out in the end." Let's do some math. Lets say that only 50,000-60,000 people buy them, although I believe that the numbers will be far higher than that. Do the math. That's money in the millions, which is remarkably similar to the release way back in 2004, wouldn't you say? The OOT=more money. Lucas is stubborn. He's not stupid. If the cash is there, he does not care, and he will release the OOT again.

The original poll a couple months ago did have an undecided option.

There is no lingerie in space…

C3PX said: Gaffer is like that hot girl in high school that you think you have a chance with even though she is way out of your league because she is sweet and not a stuck up bitch who pretends you don’t exist… then one day you spot her making out with some skinny twerp, only on second glance you realize it is the goth girl who always sits in the back of class; at that moment it dawns on you why she is never seen hanging off the arm of any of the jocks… and you realize, damn, she really is unobtainable after all. Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Eh, I will probably just buy Star Wars. For the other two, I'll either rely on my boots or pop in the laserdiscs.

The boots I have are just copied from the laserdiscs, and - fake crawl or no - when I have the urge to watch "Star Wars" I do NOT want to watch "Episode IV - A New Hope."

I won't be buying these. Even though I own the OOT and the 1997 SE on VHS, I haven't watched those in years and years and stick to the digital bootlegs. I won't be buying the films again on any medium until they receive a proper release.

You think you have it bad? Try a 100" projection screen with an HD projector.
Yeah, you have it REAL bad. Poor you and your 100" projection screen...

The way I see it, the copies of the 'Laserdisc' release can't possibly be lower quality than my 1995 (or thereabout) VHS tapes, so it's at least a step in the right direction. What we need to do is ensure that this 'limited edition' release sells out quickly, in order to prove that there is indeed a great demand for the Original Trilogy, and prove that we can put our money where our mouth is. It should give us an edge in our future requests for a better-quality release.

Just my measly 2 cents.
