Do you think it's worth it to buy one of the pirate copies of the originals on dvd from an ebay seller? I don't want to , but, how else can one get it on disc?

Browse around on the "Original Trilogy Preservation" section of the forum and all your questions will be answered. Definitely do not buy anything on eBay.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

NOT buying from E-Bay can not be stressed enough, I think we should put a banner on the preservation section in bold, red letters about not buying from ebay.

What is the harm in buying from ebay? I don't see Lucas offering up the OT on dvd!

You could buy on eBay, but you would pay a lot less if anything at all here. Most of the eBayers selling the OT on DVD are trying to make huge profits. That's not what it's all about here.

Of course, if it's something that no one else has and you've exausted your resources in getting it some other way cheaper, go for it.

"Hey eBay is okay i got the Star Wars Exectutor Boxset for £20 and it was in good condition."

But the concern is someone taking that product, converting it to DVD, and reselling the DVD for two or three times as much much. That being said, converting from VHS to DVD is cheaper and easier than converting from LD to DVD, though the quality is inferior. Still, a person who doesn't know better might be lured by the title [i"Mastered from the "Executor Boxset", thinking it's some grand, high quality release, and forking over needless amounts of cash, when they can get a much better and cheaper version here.

It's a question of giving SW fans what they want without taking advantage of them.

How can these people sell them on eBay? Is it not illegal?

You can report them to EBay for selling bootlegs.

Sometimes the auctions will be taken down, but most of the time they aren't.

Hi. I found this site after reading some reviews of the new (2004) original trilogy release on buy.com.
I recently saw Sith and wanted to see the originals again and then found out that you can't
really get the originals on dvd. You can buy tapes on ebay from 1995 or so which are more or less the originals.
Anyway I looked on ebay and decided to risk it and bought a set of 3 dvds claiming to be more or
less the originals and not the 1997 SE. I got them today and am very pleased with them. I paid $30 with
shipping.
They look like Asian releases but are in NTSC, THX, widescreen and english and have professional covers not anything
homemade. There is no menu, extras or anything but I dont care. I believe this is a legitimate asian release
from 1994 or something. The video quality is excellent so I believe it not just a transfer from a video
but an actual transfer/remaster from film.

I would say if you look on ebay just be careful about reading what you are buying and the feedback
of the seller. I just looked on there and someone is selling some Asian dvd releases in a 5 dvd set.
They look like what I bought but with the last two movies as well. If you dont see anything you like
just wait and watch until you do!

Any dvds of the OOT are not official releases, the only official dvd release is the 2004 set.

Yeah, you can find the OOT on dvd via ebay and sometimes at 'reasonable' prices. But you can get one of the many versions cheaper if you look around in the Preservation section here.

If you're on this site and want copies of the OT there are better ways to get them then giving money to Dark Side dealers who are just profiting off of other peoples work.

Yea I looked and bought on ebay before finding this site.
I have just now read a lot here about the Cowclops and Dr Gonzo versions and etc and will see about getting
copies of them.

I don't want to go to ebay....I'd rather get the Dr. Gonzo version (or similar) that have been posted on this site. However, I don't have a DVD burner and Torrent files have never seemed to work well with my computer. Does anyone know where these versions can be bought already put on DVD so that I can buy them and watch them....I'd rather do that than go to ebay.
Forever a Star Wars fan!

Besides, anything sold on ebay has to be out of copyright and be non-personalised versions. These sellers actually are skirting the law if they are selling their backups for profit - GL owns the rights to all SW !
