He'd be right. Even if Lucas himself doesn't read these forums, others do. Large companies monitor the fan communities because it helps them make marketting decisions. Other fan communities also monitor us, and frankly, originaltrilogy.com isn't taken very seriously.
After seeing a bunch of people make sexual innuendos about George Lucas, despite the forum's owner specifically asking us to tone down the Lucas-bashing, I can see why.
Seriously, we come off as a ground of angry nerds who will never be satisfied. Lucas could read about us and be saying to himself, "I could release the O-OT in higher-than-high definition, with a digital remastery that totally surpasses everything, and including every concievable special feature imaginable, and on top of that, give it away for free to anyone who asks... and these guys would still hate my guts. So why bother?"
Dude, if you really think what people say on a message board will make or break the O-OT in higher quality in the future, I think you're alittle crazy. Now if we wrote letters and emails to Lucasfilm with profanity then that is a different story, but the internet is the internet.
Lucas will release the O-OT in high quality in the future for one reason only: If it makes him money and that is it, and he could care less what the O-OT fans say on some message board. The only reason it came out in laserdisk quality in Sept is not cause we bitched and moaned during the PT days, it was because Lucas does not want the O-OT to be the official version, so if it looks worse than the 2004 SE disks, he figures any new fan will goto the SE.
He knew that a section of the fanbase wants these disks, and that is why he put them out, but there is a reason they come with the SE, just in case NEW fans buy it, or fans of the SE are curious to see what the O-OT is like. But in the end, Lucas is gambling the diehards like us will put up with Laserdisk quality, but any fan who doesn't crave the O-OT will want to watch the great quality that the 2004 disks represent.
What alot of SW fans don't understand is Lucas is doing this all for the future of SW, and though I disagree with him 100% for suppressing the O-OT, he doesn't want any new fans to fall in love with the O-OT, or what he calls outdated effects. He wants the movies to tie with the PT movies, in terms of special effects and that guy called Hayden Christenson who is now in ROTJ. He wants everyone to see the saga 1-6 now, and that is why he doesn't care about this fanbase anymore, cause he has already gotten our money from 77-96, and he feels there is a whole new generation of SW fans who will keep the SW train alive who like the saga 1-6, and like the SE. Whether they are as loyal as we are, I disagree with Lucas, but that is definitely the route he is going, and like I said it has ZERO to do with a bunch of whiners on the internet.
