Opening VHS Crawl

No. AFAIK the only home video release of SW to have the 1977 opening crawl was the GOUT - and that was spliced in specifically because Lucasfilm marketing promised the original opening crawl in its ad copy.

That was typical of LFL marketing during the 2000s. Promise just enough to make fans expect a decent product, then deliver only on what was promised in writing. I seriously wonder if the legal department had Satan on call.

There is the very slight possibility it slipped out in some foreign markets. I knew someone in the early 2000’s who swore he owned an official VHS copy sans Episode IV as a kid. (I presume it was a Spanish dub.) Unfortunately, when they returned to the family home in Puerto Rico and went through their old stuff, the tape had been eaten by mold. Tropical climes are murder on videotape.
