I agree, something along those lines. Because even though according to the Han Solo books by A.C. Crispin and in the ANH SE in itself that Han and Jabba are pretty friendily all things considered, Jabba wouldn't let you step on his tail without possibily getting shot.

To be honest, i like watching SE versions a lot, they expanded the universe in my mind and i think they released Lucas's imagination a bit more.

But i signed the petition and joyned this site because i have deep respect for preservation of films in their original
forms. I belive that once a film is made it is a part of history and if it ever gets changed, the changes should never
be a replacement for the original. I think Lucasfilm should keep the originals for the future, as an option, so people can
choose what to watch. If people change every historically important movie, then our society is threathened to loose all
records of the culture of our past decades and centuries.

I don't know if i ever mentioned this on the forum, but 20th century fox still has a LOT of original trilogy material from wich
video masters can me made in the future. Lucas owns the original negatives, but Fox has lots of interpositives, duplicate negatives and other materials,
and they are stored in geographically separated locations.
After they release this new DVD, after few years they could prossibly release the originals too because they have the rights, and it would bring them money.

But they wouldn't be able to do so without Lucas' permission, because of a little legal snag called moral rights. Unless GL waived these @ the time he made the films (and I doubt he did), they still need his permission.

God forbids, I'd never wish for the death of another human being, and I like GL, but... what if he died? I mean, WHEN he died.

Do you mind if i use your arguments in a letter to 20th Century Fox? They may not have the rights to the Star Wars trilogy, but they can pressure George Lucas to let them release the originals. I believe Jay has their address on the homepage.

The rights are with Lucasfilm as of now, and will not expire until 70 years after the copyright was issued (2047 for ANH). Moral rights always reside with the author and typically die with him. You might be able to persuade the progeny to allow the release of the OT, but it's questionable.

To be honest, no offense to anyone, but I have no doubt that Fox or Lucasfilm will release the OT on HD DVD or whatever when GL dies, unless the copyright goes to his kids or something who say no way. Just my two cents and no I don't want GL or any other good or decent person to die of anything but natural causes.

As I said before, copyright resides with LFL. Next time you're at a movie, watch the end credits and you'll see a scrawl to the effect of "Lucasfilm is the author of this work for the purposes of copyright."

Ok, I get what you're saying. Then in that case I think Lucasfilm will allow the OT to be released, even against the intention of the original artist for the $$$, most likely. I mean if you look at Disney, even though I am pretty sure that Walt Disney would never want something as stupid as Dumbo 2 or Cinderalla 2, they made 'um for the cash. Mind you two different companies, but there is the $$$ equation.

hmm things about the SE i liked...........

the extended Stormtrooper scene where they find the droids....anything with the Stormies is great!

Han running around the corner & there being hundreds of Stormies there plus a nice shot of a hangar complete with tie-fighters!

the Millenium Falcon exiting Docking bay 94

the Death star battle.....so much faster & cooler

the new planet explosions

the bantha herd in ROTJ

Ok the one major change I REALLY disliked was the removal of the line "Bring My Shuttle" & replacing it with whatever crap line they put in about alerting star destroyers to expect some under pants or some such shit!

FFS It didn't sounds remotely like JEJ!!! It's a pointless change that did nothing & the additional CGI fest would still have worked with the original line!

Well, Ben Burt claims he got the line from something James Earl Jones said for a recording in ANH, but I agree it still sounds funny. As far as the line working either way, maybe. I think the main point of it of course was to show Vader getting on the Star Destroyer and explaining why he is on the bridge I guess.

Sometimes it has something to do with how it was recorded, or the health of the voice actor @ the time of recording. That being said, I still don't think it should've been used.

this is one change which i find ruined the joke in that scene..
when i first saw Star Wars i thought it was very ballsy of Han to be chasing 5 or 6 stormtroopers down a hall by himself... but when they reached a dead end and turned around, i laughed my ass off that those same stormtroopers that han was chasing were now chasing him...
it just shows that he doesnt think when he does stuff and is quick to action..

i thought that scene should have been left the way it was..
it showed us a little more of hans character and i thought it worked better as comic relief..

True, but I liked better how the new scene showed a distinct visual link between the clones of Episode 2 and the stormtroopers in how they were arranged, plus I think it is just as funny for Han to run down the hall and run into the regiment he refused to go near when talking to Luke in the control room earlier in the film.

They are mentally neutered clones y'know. Playing devil's advocate here; it's my prerogative.

Have you guys seen that Michael Keaton clone movie, i belive it was called "multiplicity" or something like that... So, in that movie it says that when you make a clone out of a clone, it becomes kinda retarded. So that's what happened to the stormtroopers, they made clones out of the clone army, and they became kinda... special. It would explain why the Ewoks defeated then.

But most of them didn't. If you watch the scene closely, only a few of the stormtroopers see Han. Not to mention the whole Death Star was on alert for them anyway between levels 5 and 6. Also, the corridor was only so big so it probably took the clones a little time to file out single file once they all realized what was going on.

What I liked about the SE:
* the enhanced picture quality
* Dolby Surround sound
* most of the added scenes (except for the Han/Jabba scene in ANH)
* seeing Cloud City's panorama through the building's windows

What I didn't like:
* the occasional change of dialogue
* the alteration of the musical score
* the slight modification of events
* the Han/Jabba scene in ANH (for apparent reasons: bad computer animation, lousy solution regarding Jabba's tail)

Now, as you can see the contras don't necessarily outweigh the pros.

Question: Are the contras enough to boykott the upcoming release of the OT SE on DVD?
