Okay, what did we LIKE about the Special Editions? — Page 5

I didn't care for Matrix: Reloaded so I never saw Revolutions. Still haven't had the desire.

Shall we get back to the SEs then?

Not yet! :-) I just had a quick look through my admittedly rather meagre home collection, and I have a few more suggestions: Alien; Aliens; Total Recall (which has some surprisingly good CGI for a film made a relatively long time ago, EG the fake head); Robocop; And for something more recent, how about Minority Report?... Hey I forgot I even had that one... might go watch it now...

I'd watch revolutions it was much better then reloaded. I probably liked it just as much as the first. Though it lacks the same spiriual element it makes up for it with more action then the first two combined easy.

Gladiator for one.

Ugh... I hated Gladiator. Not only was it not that great of a film, it was terribly inaccurate for the type of movie it was.

Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is the war room!

Wouldn't take much for it to be better than Reloaded. Maybe I'll throw it in my Netflix queue and have a Matrix weekend to watch them all.

If you're asking whether I'm having a "house party" in the sense of a matrix viewing party at my house, then yes.

If you're saying I should be renting House Party now that I have Netflix, I'm gonna slap you silly.

Well, being Matrix, a leather party might be more in order. But I certainly won't be there. So togas it is!

I guess I"ll steer the ship back on-topic. I liked the sound of Luke's lightsaber turning off when he left the cave the Wampa was in the SE. The windows were good, I think I have already said I liked the new Celebration, though I want Yub Yub preserved of course. I liked the new shot of Obi-Wan's hut, generally the cleaning up of the movies, and the new ANH space battle is awesome.

On another note, I have read somewhere that a user hated Han's line of, "You're a wonderful human being," in the new Jabba scene. Now while I don't mind the scene, I just thought I would bring that up since I thought it was an interesting point. (For myself personally, I thought he was just being sarcastic, but...).

Now what I think would be a good thing to include within this topic would also be, "What changes do we want to see?"
And in that case, fix the screwed up lightsabers in ANH, weird Emperor in ESB, get rid of old Wampa head in ESB, fix lighting problems when characters walk by windows, lightsaber shadows when Luke & Vader fight in ROTJ, stepping on Jabba's tail (since GL will be keeping I suppose), Han shooting first again, make the Falcon move faster when combating the four Ties, Vader's hand movng around when he isn't talking to Tarkin, blacken Vader's red almost see- through eyes in ANH, black R2 head in ANH, etc..

I could go into plenty that I hated, but let's see if there are any positives first.

You know what this reminds me? That "LIfe of Brian" scene:

"What have the romans ever done for us?"
"The aquaduct?"
"What?"
"The aquaduct."
"And the road..." "And the wine..."

There are good aspects about the original trilogy, and about the new one. Greedo shoots first, and the new Jabba palace scene is one of the bad ascpets. The corrected visual FX, Yavin X-wings are some good aspects. I belive there is room for both the original and the special edition.

Just on that line "You're a wonderful Human Being"... In the original scene, remember that Jabba -was- a human being; so originally Han wasn't being sarcastic (well at least not about the "Human Being" part). But I think that GL left it in to be interpreted as sarcasm in the updated scene. I also think that the cringeworthy "Tail treading" bit was only put in because of the way the shot was originally filmed, IE Han walked around behind Jabba. Of course originally he didn't have a tail, but when they were sitting down deciding how it would go, GL must have said"I know! We can make Han step on Jabbas tail"... maybe he thought it would make the whole scenario more real/convincing? :-P

Actually the Solo stepping on Jabba's tail did not involve GL at all, it was created by the ILM animators that noticed Harrison Ford passed behind the actor in a way that would be impossible to do with that big old Jabba there.

Knew dat, but the insertion of the scene was GL's idea.

True but for me the tail thing is the only thing I don't like about the scene. Though I liked it when I first saw him but when I really thought about it why would Jabba let Han literally step all over him. Still I can't wait to see the new improved digital Jabba on the DVD.

isnt it possible to make han perhaps step over the tail...
or hell put a cut scene in showing a wide shot of the conversation while he is behind jabba and then go back when he is in front of him.... u know what i mean...
just cut that part where he goes behind him totally out...

UHG... I can't belive I used to think Han stepping on his tail was hilarious....

The Jabba scene is pointless. Just remove it.
