Ok, straight up... is this the last time we will ever see the OOT?

Is there anyone here who believes that this upcoming release is a sign of things to come? What is the mass consensus? Is this the last time we will ever see the OOT? Will we ever get a proper release? Let’s take a poll.

I think a proper version will be in the uber boxset that way Lucas can get his money now from fans who have been wanting it, but then release a good version and they will be forced to buy the SE's and the PT and all that stuff.

I was hoping that too, but I don't want to get my hopes up. Anyone else?

You know you can actually make a poll when you start a thread? I would be interested to see the results.

The OOT will be available in a proper form some day--this I have absolute and complete confidence in. The only question is when. Next year with the inevitable 30th anniversary boxset? Maybe, but i wouldn't be surprised if its not. Maybe 2008 in an even more expensive set after we have already bought the 30th anniversary one? Maybe. Maybe it won't be released until 2010 or 2012, after the live-action TV series is done and released and the Star Wars well has dried up. Its really impossible to say.

Did Lucas not say though, that this was some kind of test? To see if there is any interest in the OT?

If that's the case surely it does imply this may not be the last release of the OT. However people have to buy it to show their interest.

And thus end up with two sets of the 2004 Special Edition? I think not!

I'll wait and see, as I did when Episode I was released on VHS only.

I agree fully. I just don't think it will happen any time soon - 10 or 15 years maybe. I also think it will be done after Lucas no longer has control of the franchise.

Remember one thing through all of this - Lucas does not like anyone else to have input into any decision he makes. He's been that way since he first made the film. The more people demand something - the more he stomps his feet and says no.

Also, just for the record Mike O - I'm only interested in one film - Star Wars. Not Empire, not Return, not the SEs (haven't seen them)and certainly not any of the prequel trash(only saw one). I have the movie I want, and it's watchable and enjoyable. If a much better transfer of it ever comes out, I'll watch that one and enjoy it.

Until then, a couple of times a year I put in my non-anamorphic copy with less-than-perfect sound and color, adjust the volume, open a Snapple, get comfortable, and visit a galaxy far far away - and I enjoy every damn minute of it.

I can see Lucas living to be a 95 yaer old man with a grey beard down to his feet and long, curly finger and toenails drinking bottles of his own urine while continuing to refuse to release the OT. I fully expect to be 50+ if and when they ever get a proper release. Until then, I have my LD rips.

I don't think we'll see a decent release of the OOT anytime soon. As said earlier, maybe once Lucas has lost/given up control of Star Wars will we see an official release that is of decent quality.

My estimate for possibilities:

2007--as box set, re: "testing the water" comment
2008--get people to buy the box set then buy another one!
2010-2012--both TV series are over and done, the Star Wars well is done and Lucasfilm is about to jump ship to HD format--one last drop from the Star Wars dvd well to be squeezed

I'm trying to be positive and believe that he'd release them just before the TV show, to promote it and build up some good nostalgia (among those 30-somethings with disposoble income that they love in the TV world) going into it.

I hope that when the HD format comes to Star Wars they'll do something about the theatrical releases. Otherwise, beyond that I don't really care much.

The only sign this release gives us is how nothing George Lucas says can be taken seriously.

It will be released again, cause of fans like me and many other who used to buy everything Lucas put out on Video. Before this O-OT split with SE fans, I was a sucker for anything SW boxset wise, you could always count me in when Lucas released something before Christmas.

But now I dont' love the PT enough to care about more documentaries or deleted scenes, I have no inkling to buy a new OT set with more changes, so that leaves me as only buying future stuff with the O-OT version in the boxset.

Lucas lost me as a fan, so $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ will make him say, "Due to popular demand, the O-OT will be totally remastered for HD-DVD!"

I just say give me a call when it happens.

I feel the exact same way. He's only doing it to himself. I hope he loses quite a bit of revenue due to his complete lack of respect for any of his customers.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Why do you think so? How long do you think that we must wait? And thanks, buddy!

I thought that you said that you thought that this was the last OOT release we would ever see. You don't like Empire and Jedi, huh? Ah, well. To each his own. And people are forgetting one thing: even if Lucas does surrender the franchise, there's still Rick McCallum.

I feel the exact same way. He's only doing it to himself. I hope he loses quite a bit of revenue due to his complete lack of respect for any of his customers.

Ah, but if he loses revenue, then there will be sufficent reason for him to say that there is no demand for the OOT.

as box set, re: "testing the water" comment

Assuming, of course, that the discs sell well and that Lucas meant what we thought that he meant. If only he were to talk about the release a bit more. We'd be able to gage things better.

That's a long wait.

A negative vote.

The only sign this release gives us is how nothing George Lucas says can be taken seriously.

And there's the rub--we don't know what any of this means.

In that massive folder on my computer for Star Wars DVD covers, I had a folder for the '05 releases. The folder was labeled "Penultimate Release" What a fool I was. These things are never gonna stop. If they want to get any more of my bucks, they need to start putting out some quality material, excellent transfers and actual cut scenes. Until then, new DVD cover are isn't cutting it.

When I said ever, I was referring to the foreseeable future - known releases, announced releases, anniversary box sets, etc - the distance into the future that I'm willing to concern myself with. None of knows what's going to happen decades from now. For the record, I was in the middle of typing out an explanation for you in another thread, the first time you asked me about it, and my internet connection took a shit on me. I just never got back to doing it.

You don't like Empire and Jedi, huh? Ah, well. To each his own.

I don't dislike Empire. I watch it every few years, but it's not something I'm going to worry about getting a proper version of.

Return is ridiculous. Lucas had already started to ruin Star Wars by then and I sure as hell don't need an anamorphic version of this trash....

LOL! How can you resist that widdle face?

I just saw Return of the Ewok, BTW, and it was adorable! I see that they used the Wicket/Boba Fett part on the 2004 bonus DVD. They should have put the whole thing on there.

Watch what you say about Return of the Jedi . And you must admit, that people who want proper versions of Empire and Jedi should be able to get them. I wonder what Ozkeeper would say on the subject. I wonder if there is a snowball's chance in hell of seeing it in the 30th anniversary boxed set. And I too happen to think that the Ewoks are cute. So sue me.

I really think of SW, ESB and Jedi as one film, divided into 3 parts. Maybe Jedi isn't as strong a film as the other 2, but I loved it when I saw it in the theater in '83 and I still do. There are so many parts of it that are so wonderful- Jabba's palace, the Rancor, Yoda's death scene, Threepio's 'bedtime story', the Luke and Leia bridge scene, the speederbike chase, the death star attack, the duel, the funeral pyre scene with the fireworks- all of those things make up for any weaknesses the film has. (IMO)

RotJ is great if you as me. I even like the Ewoks, though, even as a child, their scenes in the film often went beyond the limits of my credulity.
