Not sure if we’re boycotting this, but figured the official announcement was worth noting.

I know putting it in the theater is a money grab, but I like the idea of seeing Star Wars on the big screen. I must admit, though, it will lose something without the 20th Century Fox fanfare beforehand. I wonder if they can do something to release the OOT now that Lucas has cut cords with them.

Err... why would we boycott it? This is just what I was waiting for: the opportunity to show GL as a huge liar (as if I was really needed for that, but...). He said RotS was the last of the films, then he goes and does this. I just knew it. In Hollywood, "The End" really means "I'll Be Back." It happened in '85 with Caravan of Courage, now in '08 with The Clone Wars. We can look forward to Star Wars films for years to come, I'm sure.

I've been waiting for this news, it was a strong possibility that this would happen.

Cash grab? You bet. If I was inclined to want to see this I was supposed to be able to watch it free on television, now I have to pay for it in theatres, fuck that.

Though maybe it was WB stipulation that it be released in theatres first to maximise profits before it goes to air as part of the deal to buy the show.

As part of the article it looks like Anakin and Kenobi won't be spending a lot of on screen time together as you know friends but it seems to be all about Anakin and his apprentice. Which inevitably won't be a long relationship.

I felt there were a lot more Star Wars stories left to tell," said George Lucas, executive producer of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. "I was eager to start telling some of them through animation and, at the same time, push the art of animation forward."


Yeah I think the art of animation was doing fine without you George, but thanks for your contribution. You've been irrelevant for 2 decades.

Though in saying that I said years ago that the Prequels should have been cg animation movies (they virtually were apart from the lead actors) to separate the trilogies rather than try to make them one big saga, which had failure written all over it.

I saw somewhere that Paul Dini (writer of Batman: The Animated Series and some of the better Ewoks episodes) is involved with this project. Gives me a bit of hope.

Well I quite liked the animated series and my son just LOVES the Clone Wars and as he is only four so for me it will just be a thrill to take my son to see Star Wars in the cinema as I have never had that opportunity and would not want him to miss out on it.I mean some of my best memories from childhood are of Star Wars on the big screen so I would want him to have that too.
So I will look forward to it.The guys here who know me know I am not as vehemently anti-prequel as others here.I still want a restored OOT and that's why I am here and I dont think that one thing necessarily precludes the other.At any rate it will be a blast going to star wars on a big screen with my son!

Still want to know, what happened to the original movies being re-released in theaters in a 3-D format?

Last news on that was way back in 2005.

I don't want a cartoon movie!!!

Did not enjoy the "Clone Wars" show at all. On the other hand, 3 movies set after the events of "Return of the Jedi" in a 100%CGI format to complete the original plan of 9 episodes {With the voices of the surviving original stars from Episodes IV - VI } would be total kick ass! That I would pay for.

Hmmm...

there was a lot of speculation but I guess this makes it official. It definitely smells like a money grab. I wonder whyt it's still so far off thought, They were bragging that they had completed the first handful of episodes months ago.

I'll definitely check out the show when it materialises but i'm not holding out much hope.

I think part of the problem is it feels like a retread, A) we've already seen the resolution of the war now B) the 2d series pretty much spanned the period between aotc and rots, how can this show possibly co-exist without stepping on canon toes?

Actually, if you want to go with the "original" sequel plan (as expressed in Bantha Tracks circa 1978), then there would be nine movies set after RotJ. The original plan was to have a 12 movie saga, with ANH as the first episode, not the fourth. I agree with you, though. A full, 15-episode saga would be a thing of beauty, CGI or not. Unfortunately, I doubt GL would let them use the "Episode" moniker for fear of violating his precious "vision."

That would be better. But only if George Lucas circa '76 - '77 was involved (hell even circa '83) along with Kurtz, Kasden et el. I couldn't imagine what Team McCallum would come up with. Then we'd have 2 crappy trilogies further overshadowing the originals.

But what would they be about? Vader and in my mind the Empire are destroyed. One of the few things I agree with Lucas on is that the story has been told.

Which is why I can't understand why we keep getting tv shows and now a new feature.

The next three will be about Anakin's force ghost as he tries to come to terms with the fact that he's dead and yet still alive somehow. He'll try to guide future generations of Jedi to avoid the same mistakes that he made, and yet, in the end, he will have gradually learned that being part of the force means being content with what is and that he should not worry about the mistakes of his force-powered descendants.

Oh and Anakin will finally, somehow "bring balance to the force" since he never did that anywhere else.

Yep, he's making the ST- the trilogy that will make the PT look like the OT. Lucas has become attached to SW just like Anakin was dependent on Darth Vader's armor. I cant wait to see the SNAFU that will come our way in the next 20 years, and the third and fourth waves of changes to the OT. Im throwing in the towel for good.

Yes, I'd like that too. I still remember an interview that Mark Hamill gave when ROTJ was released, that he'd signed on to do episodes 7, 8 & 9 with Luke perhaps being on "another plane of existance". I still like the idea of that, preferably live-action, but CGI would be OK too, if he voiced the character.

Knowing what a fanboy that guy (Dave Filoni) is, I'm sure he decorated the entire office himself. You can see his Plo Koon mask on the right. Could that be one of the newer "making of" books?

Dave Filoni was the guy at C4 talking about Clone Wars. Seeing the trailer he showed that day, I kinda hoped in the back of my mind that I'd be able to see the show on the big screen like that. Now I can't wait to go see this.

I'll see it because, though I suspect it will be lame, I am curious. And I think anyone here that says otherwise is a bloody liar. You know you will see it at some point. You can't not be curious about a Star Wars feature film, even if its just a rental or a download or whatever.

I'll also say: I'm not confident it will hold up as a film series. Even the 2d Clone Wars, if strung into a movie, while still entertaining, is not quite feature film material. The animation quality seen in the new 3d previews looks appropriate for television, but sub-par for a feature film--and I think that that might come to characterise the series as whole. As a TV series--okay, for something from free on television maybe its worth a watch if your flipping through; but as a feature film--I have my doubts. I'll reserve judgement of course--I hope I'm wrong. I hope I'm surprised to find that its no wonder LFL wanted to theatrically release these things because they are so brilliant. But that seems less likely at this point.

I thought it was going to be 9 Episodes. I remember seeing that in the gatefold of the original "The Empire Strikes Back" album.

In early 1978 it was 12 episodes. And they were non-linear. And ESB was Episode II. But then it became Episode V and a nine-episode series sometime by the end of that year.

Interesting to picture: "Warner Brothers presents... A Lucasfilm LTD production...STAR WARS"

Anyone noticed that LFL have severed their SW ties with Fox? Warner Brothers is distributing the new Clone War films. Guess this isn't that interesting, Lucasfilm only went to Fox for the prequels in order to bilk them out of ownership rights, but its somewhat weird to imagine Star Wars films without the Fox logo preceeding the credits. I guess the other animated shows were distributed by CBS and Cartoon Network though, and this is not exactly the same as the proper episodic series.

You mean he was never supposed to still be alive in the ST?! Wow, I guess this theory I've had for a while about that 100 year gap in the legacy era might turn out to be true....
