Original Star Wars comic edit

I originally got this idea from somewhere on these forums but I cant find the thread so I decided to start a new one. That thread delt with someone re-editing Star wars comics into a story he would like. I mention it becuase its where I got this idea from. Kind of a Star Wars Marvel Comic Special edition. Ive posted my first go and wanted some feedback.

I know most of you hate anything being done with the classic movies. Im hoping you like this though

Original 1600x1836 size here.

So you decided to polish a turd? Well, from what I see, the alterations aren't bad at all. Then again, I'm sleep deprived. Why did you give Luke a red lightsaber instead of turning it blue in the upper left hand corner?

Polish a turd? Yes this art and design is pretty awful but its also a classic. I gave luke a red saber becuase editing the pink and red saber of the original was taking more time than I wanted to invest.

Thanks for your feedback.

Hmm. Make the lightsaber blue, invest a little more time into it, and I'll like it.

Anyway, interesting project, thanks for sharing it with us. Don't worry so much what other people think about it, if it is something that interests you, keep at it. And by posting it here, it is very likely at least a few others who find it interesting will stumble across it.

Interesting idea. Dark Horse should have tried something like this when they reprinted the Marvel adaptation in the 90's. Instead, they recolored them with a very flat drab scheme.

Given that the people working on the Marvel comic did not have the luxury of seeing the finished film, they did a great job. :)

Sorry about that...you could be right. I had just come from a thread with bashing running rampant...probably set me in the wrong mood.

Cant decide if I want to continue working on just covers or seeing what I could do with an inside page.

Yeah, the Dark Horse recoloring was seriously weak. Everything was too pale.

I love the old Marvel comics. They meant a lot to me when I was a kid and even looking at them now they have some good stuff. Marvel gets a lot of flak because early on they did stuff like put in a giant green rabbit, but I don't see a big difference between Jar Jar a giant green rabbit, and anyway Marvel's stories got better after the early years.

Ok, here's some basic principles: When it comes to Lucas's ouput 1997 onwards, Bashing = Good. Gushing = Bad. Ok?

I find it ironic that on the new cover the stars are less visible or all together gone.

Other than that I wish you the best of luck with your project as long as these new edits are alternatives to the originals and aren't intended to replace them ;)

The star field is easier to see if you hit the link for the original size and not one made to fit this forum better.

well I dont own the originals so I cant replace the originals with any thing I might do. I assume your comment is Lucas bashing Special edition inspired?

Heres some food for thought just becuase I dont agree with you on something doesnt mean I have a little shrine to Lucas in my basement now does it. It doesnt mean that I LOVE everything he does now does it?

Lets assume for the sake of argument that there was something I didnt like about Lucas or post 97 Star Wars. If I said that in this forum I could not make a single argument about anything without someone throwing that nebulous thing in my face everytime now could I? Im not gushing.

Regarding the Star Field remark - duely noted.

As for the rest the comment was simply made tongue in cheek, but I'm not bashing.

How am I bashing or more so how can one misconstrue that comment as Lucas bashing when one simply wishes that an alternative or special edition not replace the original, shouldn't they both be allowed to co-exist?

I am going to forgo my opinion on that matter and answer you in this way. Star Wars is the property of Lucas. He can do with it what he pleases, whether you, I or the guy next door likes it. It IS his.

And I apologise for accusing you of Lucas bashing. I just expect it to be the default status of most Star Wars fans nowadays....unfortunantly

Actually, the only person allegedly giving Marvel flak over Jaxxon, (the meat-eating blaster toting rabbit) was George! ;)

And Jaxxon is nothing like Jar Jar.

Lucas Bashing is a pejorative term for reasonable objection to the harm Lucas has done to Star Wars.

Well, to be honest, some of the things you've said on this site have given me the impression you might be having an actual Lucas shrine somewhere. And you have given me the impression that you're pretty damn uncritical about his work.

Legally maybe, but definitely not morally. It belongs to the world. It belongs to all of us. Morally he most definitely does NOT have the right to do whatever he wants with it. The argument that it's his and he has the right to do what he wants with it is obscene and it's the sort of argument I associate with Lucas zombies who make daily sacrifices at a Lucas shrine.

If only it was. Unfortunately the default status seems to be Lucas worship.

Sounds ridiculous to me. What are you basing this on exactly?

Back on topic, those blue sabers look quite nice. Good work.

No one said we dislike anything done to the originals. Just as long as it's not done poorly (like this! '97 SE Jabba, from ANH. You'll find most of us that have seen Adywan's OT edits to be improvements on the originals, in an "alternative viewing" kind of way (although I've heard a few people say that his versions have now become their default versions of the OT now.)

I don't know, I still think we need to include Jar-Jar in there somewhere... :P

I like your edit of the cover now!
