OT.com is so loved....

Gee, that thread looks so much more sane than what we loonies often discuss. Don't pay this any mind. Nothing is more childish than talking about people behind their collective back. Especially when they act like they're so much better even when slinging insults at one another. I have the impression through my browsing that that is one of the most hostile boards around. I'd take lunacy over pig-headedness anyday. However, since I'm not a member over there, I won't stoop to their level and liebel everyone there based on an impression. Facism.com my ass. At least we don't hate SE fans only because they like the SE. We didn't ask to be blacksheep.

I think a couple of the posters there may be under the impression that we ALL hate the PT, want GL dead, despise the 97SEs and can't comprehend why some people here like the MagnoliaFan Edits of Ep1 and Ep2 over the the official versions.

Looks like we are all the same and have no other opinions...

Probably best to ingore the trolling.

Hey, we got our share of everything. If you come in here looking for a certain mindset, you'll find PLENTY of closeminded stubborn Lucas haters, but you'll also find people who like the old stuff and the new stuff, people who have just lost faith in him but stop at disappointment, and so forth. Sometimes I'm reading through these boards and I just have to close the window because the posts get ridiculous.

But we have a lot of other stuff as well. In general, this board is the best thing that happened to my love of Star Wars in a long time. I wouldn't say to MF.com that "we're not like that" but I would say "yes, but there's a whole world of other stuff and other viewpoints on here."

They certainly seem to have no problem over generalizing. I agree with starboy, we have a very broad spectrum of opinins on this forum. Personally, I think thats great - diversity is the spice of life.

Not that we arent guilty of it from time to time, but that whole thread looks like a bunch of people who are gonna have tired arms soon, from patting eachother on the back so frequently.

*I just lost my concentration because Shaq is playing basketball with Regis on tv, WTF?*

At any rate, people making such broad generalizations should be ignored. I dont think we are all malicious and nasty. I dont want to see GL publicly flailed all the time.

I think the only people we ever really tear into are the StarWars.com fanboys, but thats just because they are silly.

I think people take what the want away from here. I know in my brief time here i have had a great experience. THe amount of personal attacks here is minimal to various other MB i have visited, both star wars and otherwise. Also i think that if someone would merely pop in here and only spend a minimal amount of time that they wouldnt have a proper context of the people here. In reality i hold no grudge against GL, he can do as he pleases with his intellectual property, but because SW used to be a big thing in my life i sometime get overly frustrated and vent a bit. If one only come to the boards and visits the threads with the catchy titles such as "Intellegnce of fanboys" or "why the pt was doomed from the crawl" of course they are going to believe only negactive things about the populace of the boards. Not to mention that the majority of fans have an established presupposition of this site, believing it to be filled with bitter purist. In the end i would say they lack perspective....

What I want to know, is why is it automatically BAD to not like the Prequels, or the SE/2004 revisions of the OT?

I'm a movie fan, and my opinion is that these suck hard, but stating the opinion brands you as some sort of heretic from the Lucas faithful. It's quite amusing when these same people try and brand me as a fanboy. It's like they never look in the mirror or read what they post.

Stating a SW movie sucks does not mean the comment is wrong, or that the person who loves it is right.

Lucas fanboys, repeat that 10 times.

I saw MBJ's ref. Where were you in their posts, Reg?

They call us losers? Yikes.

I really feel that we have a pretty well grounded and diverse group of viewpoints here or there is no way I would have stayed on as long as I have.

Funny to see some of the same posters over there bashing us here and yet they still post here (tlbauerle, faid).

Out of curiosity, who was Fatboy Roberts over here? He says he was on and got some people to admit he had some good points. I'm wondering who he was because I've never seen that name used here.

The people there are completly villifying GL and calling him little more than the conduit through which the idea of Star Wars flowed and was taken up by better qualified people. They basically believe that ANH turned out the way it did because of the intervention of others, and that TESB and ROTJ turned out the way they did because GL took a back seat on them. ONe individual even called him a "meddler" in his own films.

Basically the whole paragraph is referring to my refutation of Lucas as sole author/auteur. But the specific reference to "ONe individual even called him a "meddler" in his own films" oh yeah that's ALL ME BABY.

I'm so... honoured.

I thought the same thing Luke. Damn, what a bunch of sell-outs. I love this board. Ironic, that they call us extreme, when I think we are the sane ones. We are all here because we love Star Wars, but not blindly at all costs. Its like if you were to question something the government does, it doesn't make you non-patriotic. I love Star Wars and just like the quote thats now on the homepage about Lucas being against the colorization of the 3 stooges...I think its cool if he wants to make changes and do directors cuts, actually I don't mind a few of the changes, but for God's sakes a trilogy, so epic needs to be preserved. If it were, there would be no bootleg thread. We're all here for the love. Simple. I respect MF.com and even had a thread a while questioning where it went. I find it ironic that MF.com would a stand on us at OT.com, when they themselves are often showing spoilers and doing fringe articles that are so despised at TFN, hence why I thought they got shut down. Apparently that one dude on there is Bizzle who tried to trash MagnoliaFan...which is crap. He ragged on his work and never even watched it. That is ignorance. I think Magnolia is awesome and am so glad he is a part of this board. He himslef does what he does for the love of Star Wars...he clearly loves the saga and as he says in the films, there is just another version of the beloved saga, its not gospel or to torn down. Its his work and like Lucas says, if you don't like it, don't watch it.

We simply want the option to see what we once liked, no loved, and had taken from us. This thread is garbage, and it is disturbing that people from this forum are badmouthing us. People on that thread brag about trying to take down magnolia...crap. Our numbers grow. Our recognition grows. You know I was talking on the phone with Rikter 2 days ago and mentioned how every review I have read of the boxset (which I do not hate, but do have some problems with) does mention the purists or the "changes", even the overwhelmingly positive ones. That is a victory in itself. Kershner, Lowry, Ling, all mention to expect Lucas to cave to the public outcry with his 2007 release. Victory. Look in the end it may or may not happen, but we have won hearts and minds and given a home to those that feel abandoned by something that was such a huge part of their lives and childhoods. We found a home. And their is diversity here. People from all over the world. People of different backgrounds. People that have vastly different likes and dislikes with the Star Wars saga. People that know the SW universe to minute detail and casual fans. The board may have some general consensus, but that's what makes it home. If you dare question or think about what you love deeply...this is the place.

I have made so many friends here and like my thread on my fiancee, I post things that are personal and funny. I enjoy conversing with my friends. I think we can "bash" at times, but in jest. We laugh here and have a sense of humor and the diversity and the right to question often make so many of our thread amusing. Again I think the fact that so many casual fans are here often makes it very amusing and lighthearted and not chained down with quibbles on "force-chokes", just kidding (a thread on here) - see that's the humor.

I kind of think of that Statue of Liberty thing...bring us your tired, your sick, your poor...

Well I guess, stuff like this makes me be defensive and I am trying to wax poetic, but I love when a new person posts here we say, "welcome home" and not bash them for being "newbies" with inferior intelligence or quip "do a search" to them like other boards. I love this place.

So to all the haters... (jimbo help me out here, you're good at being crass...fill this in for me).

That my friend is one of the best things about this board. I have asked many a noobish question and have not recieved any negative comments. That is truely refreshing, most boards on the net are choked with people that are very negative towards anything not them...

While I appreciate not being nmed in any of the posts here, I am not ashamed of what I wrote at MF.Com. My thread there came as a reaction to the "Did GL take too much credit" thread found here. As a curious party, I had heard things about this site and I decided to take a look for myself. That particular thread caught my attention because I thought it was an interesting topic. I was very shocked at the amount of negativity and one-sidedness the replys. Ther seemd to be such a concensus of viewpoints that I was really taken aback. I would have made commentary here, but I felt the proliferation of negativity would lead me into an arena of discussion that would end up being frustrating and futile. I will admit that I overstated the harshness of the replys, but some of them did border on being quite nasty. My reactions were based not only on this thread, but several others that I scanned while here. There seems to be a very fine line betweem a serious love of one thing, and an almost fanatical hatred of another on this site, in general. And while I don't doubt that there are a variety of viewpoints beingrepresented here, they just don't seem as pervasive or powerful as the opposing. Did I believe anyone here would read my thread? Honestly, no. Call it naieve, but it is what it is. I won't apologise as I believe my observation has merit. Seeing that kind of negative response to something all at once was like getting hit in the face with a brick.

What I do not support is the fact that others on MF.Com chose to use the thread to personally attack nidividuals on this site. That was uncalled for and represents the type of negative attitude that prompted my post in the first place. I have an issue with the overall viewpoin and the expression of it in the threads that I read, not the people who make them. I don't know any of you, at all, so all I have to work with are the comments that you leave. I can not and will not apologise for the comments of others, but I will take resposibility for bringing the whole thing up in the first place.

I do find it interesting to note that some of the people over here took to doing the same thing they accused those at MF.Com of doing. You speak of how cowardly it is to talk about someone behind their backs, yet instead of stepping foreward and defending your point of view where they can see it, you gathered together in your own corner to cast dispariging remarks in their direction. And again, while I was not mentioned by name at any time, I still feel responsible as it was my thread that got the ball rolling. I don't see any response at MF.Com to be any better than saying,

"they're just another sheep in the large flock on Skywalker Ranch.... and the only reason Lucas is keeping you around is for your wool...
but this is the last straw for Luke....
let the fanboys celebrate their defective 2004 editions.... after all its not like they know what the definition of quality is... they think the SE's are the way to go.... "
That is just as arrogant and insulting as anything said at MF.Com and only serves to add fuel to an already unecessary fire.

This is not what I intended when I started the thread. If anyone here took offense to it then I apologise for that. I still believe in my viewpoint however, and I believe that the very essence of this site is less about a love for Star Wars than it is a dislike for the SE's and the PT. I applaud your opinions and the way you stick by them, I just dissagree that making personla attacks on GL, or throwing negative labels at anyone who does not share the same point of view should be rewarded. I have made similar statements at MF.Com, and I will take responsibility over there as well. If you guys are gonna bash anyone, just bash me and get it over with. But don't turn this into some stupid thing with another message board, that's a really infantile.

I dont know what thread you were reading, but in this thread i saw(aka this one) max two people making openly insulting statements, a couple of tongue in cheek cracks, and a whole lot of i think they misunderstood us posts. In life it is easy to ignore the 9 positive posts for the one negative. The proverb of "one bad apple ruins the bunch" isnt just nonsense, it holds truth. And the one of the truths presented by this saying is that people often remember the negactive experiences more clearly than vast majority of positive experiences. I.E. if you go to the same store often enough and recieve above par treatment you will have a plesent feeling of the place, but will probably not remeber it as good. However, the one time you have a negative experience the store is the worst place in the world. i think the same is true in these boards, a vast majority of the discussion is good, but small amount of negative leaves the stronger impression. (Especially if you have heard about the "crazies" on the boards, or have your mind made up prior). To any naysayer i challenge you to spend time here and openly and honestly evaluate the people here for a good length of time, what you find here just might surprise you. Besides how can you properly judge the lot of us based off a few minutes, hours, or days of posting?

Star Wars and strong emotion.

Star Wars isnt just a movie, it is and was the first cultural phenomenon of its kind. I like many other who grew up with it have been fans longer than our memories go back. When you buy into something with this much furver, as many of us have spending mind boggling amounts of time and money on it, it becomes almost a part of who we are. Then when somebody tells you that you opinion doesnt matter, and in your mind screws up that thing you are naturally inclined to be a little miffed. Do i think anyone on these boards wish GL death, or personal harm? No, of course not. They are passe little comments on a INTERNET MESSAGE BOARD, ment to convey the amount of disappointment and frustration many of us have due to the (miss)handling of these movies over the years. I would greatly perfer people getting off there high horses (on both sides) and realize that whether you are bashing GL or bashing others it is all the same. Further more, realize that this is the internet and all of the dialogue being had here should be taken with a grain of salt.

O-OT VS. SE and Beyond

In the end this is all a matter of opinion. The thing i hate is how one side seems to overwhelmingly judge the other when they actively due the same thing. Us purist are given this bad rap on the boards i have visisted, slighted and gossiped about for our strong views. But gushers do the same things we do just the opinion is different, but it is ok? Its like the ACLU and Christens... The ACLU spends all there time alienating Christians talking about how jusdgemental they are, and how unexceptable the faith is especially if they tell people something is wrong, when the whole time the ACLU is doing exact same thing, being judgemental and telling people they are wrong***.

Also please dont patronize me with the whole

Can't we just say fuck em and not have this fiasco spilling over multiple boards? There's enough bickering here that we don't need this (trust me, I know). Perhaps...this is all a plot by a member of this board who wants OT.com to unite and end this fighting!

Seriously, trolling and forum bashing is pretty juvenile. I can't stand people slagging others from the anonymity of their keyboards. The thing that drew me to the OT.com site was the chance to debate and question things that I could not do elsewere! MF.com? SW.com? Yeah right.

The OT.com (for the most part, there are always exceptions!) can pride itself on the fact that we are all rallied around a central and important cause. I think you would be hard pressed to find a more dedicated, intelligent and mature bunch of Star Wars fans. I think its ironic when other sites label us as being 'facists' simply for having an opinion that differs to their own. Here's an idea, don't visit the site! You don't believe what we believe? And that, MagFan, is why I love you.

I hate to think of these boards having some heavy fisted moderation like many other places I've been to, but the personal attacks on people simply because they do/don't hate Lucas or do/don't hate the SE's or PT has been reaching insane proportions.
For as much as some people claim to hate what Star Wars has become, they sure seem incapable of shutting up about it.
