OT characters more popular than PT characters

No character exclusively introduced in the Prequels made it to the top 10. In fact, every character introduced in the prequels (11 in this poll) were beaten by "Other". Four original trilogy characters were also beaten by "Other". This is all user submitted. You can view the results here.

SO true - So has anyone else noticed that all the TV ads ALL feature OT characters and NO PT ones?

See even GL's marking team knows the PT bites

not trying to nit pick, more of a general clarification

but wouldnt obi-wan kenobi (younger) be a PT character
also, "4 OT characters were beating by other" Princess Leia, C-3PO, Lando Calrissian, Jabba the Hutt, Grand Moff Tarkin thats 5, plus Bail Organa was mentioned in the OT so technically is an OT character

(i do know that the 4 OT character comment is not from MeBeJedi, but rather the poster that posted it on JWFAN.com)

also as stated on the JWFAN.com post the final results are slightly different than that image and can be found here http://www.imdb.com/poll/results/2005-04-25 at the source of the poll. mainly C-3PO beat Jar Jar (which im sure most people are happy to hear)

"but wouldnt obi-wan kenobi (younger) be a PT character"

But he's not strictly a PT character, but I get your point. Of course, the PT Obi is a little bit defter with the blade, but the OT Obi is wiser and more popular.

I'm not surprised that the OT characters beat the PT characters. The OT characters had life and charm, the PT characters don't.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

Hey! Qui-gon was cool! Does anybody else find it disturbing that Jar Jar Binks beat out Threepio?

Anybody bet that most of those who voted "other" had Mara Jade in mind?

Good point on the young Obi. Yes, he is strictly a PT character as he was played by Ewan MacGregor. Only the older Obi is a OT character.

I dunno if Bail Organa was actually ever mentioned by name in the OT. I can't quite recall when it happened. They may have made passing reference to Leia's adoptive father, but I don't recall ever hearing the name Bail. When did it happen? Even so, he is strictly a PT character even if he was mentioned because he never had a face or identity as a character beyond being some vague reference. So I would call him strictly a PT character. It wasn't until AOTC that an actor (Jimmy Smits) actually became the character.

good point on mara jade, i'd say there is a 95% chance that was the case.

but read the first post i made, or even just go to the JWFAN.com link in MeBeJedi's original post and read a few of those posts and you'll see that C-3PO did beat Jar Jar in the final results of the poll. my first post has a link to the final poll results on imdb

"I dunno if Bail Organa was actually ever mentioned by name in the OT."

No. Leia simply mentions "Her father", and the droids belonged to Captain Antilles.

Ironically, the novelization does mention his name.

There's a lot of EU and Prequel backstory that comes from the original novels.

If Quigon was flat, then how do you describe Obiwan? Or Panaka? Geez.

I think they were all flat. As we've discussed elsewhere, good actors and greenscreens do not always mix. Or perhaps GL's first directing gig out of his years of not doing it. See the new 'Batman Begins' trailer for Liam Neeson playing basically the same character and already seemingly doing a much better job at it.

I don't think Qui-gon was flat - if anything, he was TPM's saving grace. Jar-jar, on the other hand, wasn't just flat, he was two-dimensional....

That's what I thought. I knew the name Bail Organa well before the release of the PT movies, but was pretty sure it was from some of the novelizations or just the geek in me and not from the OT movies.

Out of curiosity, who is Captain Antilles? I had always assumed it was Wedge, but I read something a few years ago that stated "Captain Antilles" was not the same person as "Wedge Antilles." Any insight?

(BEWARE: SPOILERS)

You'll actually see Captain Antilles at the end of Revenge of the Sith, though I don't think he has any lines, he is mentioned by name by Bail Organa when he puts the droids in his care and instructs him to "have the protocol droid's memory erased".

He is the Rebel captain of the Blockade Runner who gets choked by Darth Vader in the opening moments of Episode IV. Though it's never made clear, it is widely assumed that Captain Antilles is Wedge Antilles' father. Which gives Wedge some motivation to blow up the Death Star since Darth Vader killed his father too.

The real mystery is: who is the "Bail Antilles of Alderaan" mentioned by Captain Panaka in TPM as being nominated to secede Valorum as Chancellor? Maybe Wedge's grandfather?

Lucas has said that "Antilles" is the SW equivalent of the name "Smith". There are no relationships between any of the "Antilles" characters in the films.

Are you kidding, MeBeJedi? EVERYONE is related in the Star Wars saga! Why would the Antilles' be any different? God knows the Skywalkers have muddied up the galaxy's gene pool.

I'm still waiting for "Uncle" Chewbacca's revelation.
