I have said this in other forums and believe it needs its own topic. Futurama was a Matt Greonings Televison series which aired on Fox from 1999-2003. The show takes place in the year 3000. It was extremly funny. Every episode was brimming with hilarious pop culture references, great characters, and great animation. Despite its ovious brilliance Fox didn't see that. Putting it at a 7:00 time slot where Footbal constantly premted it. The results had the show airing every third week. Eventually this resulted in fans not knowing when it was on leading to a lack of ratings. The show was then cancelled. There is a massive fan movement to bring the show back. I hope for more support.

Over here in Brazil the show was aired sundays at 8pm on Fox Brazil (simpsons sundays at 8:30). And one day, they started to re-run the old shows, so I thought "ok, season ended there." But it never got back, and I knew what had happened. It's still aired every sunday at 8pm for some reason, but only re-runs, obviously.

How about I kick of this thread with some of my favorite Zapp Branigan quotes. These give me a huge laugh all the time. Especially out of Billy Wests mouth.

Much as I loved the show, I just don't think its fanbase has the momentum to bring it back to life. The season DVD box sets aren't selling well, and I think the cancellation is just a little too fresh to bring any sort of "discovery" in the same way that the Family Guy movement did. Let it lie low for another year, then maybe people will rediscover it.

Actually Fox was surprised at how well the season sets have been selling. Id like to bring up the return of the Family Guy. It was cancelled for the same reasons as Futurama. Fox recently brought it back for December 2004. It was brought back with a combination of high DVD sales and high cartoon network ratings. Futuramas cartoon network ratings are equal with Family Guys. Family Guy did have higher DVD sales and it is a cheaper show to produce. Family Guys return does give some hope for Futurama but its still not set in stone. Ive done everything I could. Bought the first 3 seasons on DVD and tryed to show it to as many people as I can to try to grow its fan base. I have succeed well. Once people sit and watch this show they realize just how clever and funny it is. If all fans do the same thing its fan base could grow big enough to bring the show back from the dead. Personally id like for new episodes to air on Adult Swim and not Fox. One of my favorite fan posters was a picture of Bender with a Fox logo on his butt saying "Bite my shinney metal ass"

Let's not forget the real reason Fox won't ressurrect Futurama: it wants Matt Groening to devote all his attentions to The Simpsons.

Which really sucks. Futurama was more imaginative and funny then the Simpsons ever were. Plus the Simpsons have done everything and are running out of ideas. I guess its Futurmas new environment. The Simpsons are limited to a modern world setting. Futurams year 3000 environment helps them come up with new ideas that are so funny. Futurama beat the Simpsons at the emmys and has been nominated again this year. It also released the video game after the cancellation.

sigh...

as bad as the simpsons are now... nothing can beat their 3rd, 4th and 5th seasons..
simpsons have been running for what... 15 seasons now...
futurama had....

Actually, I think it was 4 seasons, plus something like 5 episodes in a "5th season".

4 officially produced Seasons were created. Thats 72 total episodes. But of course thanks to Foxes Footbal 5 seasons were aired or leftovers of previous seasons.

I always enjoy the Star Trek episode...

Gas-Mom: "Melllvar! Dinner time!"
Melllvar: "Nar, but mom! I'm playing with my collectables."

Melllvar: "Nar"

Fry: "All this time we thought he was a powerful super-being. Yet he was just a child ..."

But then, Zap might have the best lines in the entire show:

Like everyonr i like the Simpsons,but they ran out of good stuff a long time ago...Fox should realise it and let MG work on Futurama
