BTW, that is TheCassidy, who is in no way related to me: TheSessler.

The quality control of the DVD transfer/Lowry cleanup was horrible.

Thank God we have Citizen's DVD transfer now!

Lowry himself was supposedly hushed up at a Q&A when he said that Lucasfilm hadn't given his company enough time to properly complete the restoration. Bit shit really.

Yep, Lucas would never allow the public to know that he had actually made a mistake!

You're probably like me and have bought the R2-D2 Beneath the Dome DVD when it came out, just becuase Luca$ released it witht he Star Wars name and it was a star wars dvd.

Maybe the easter eggs are the O-OT versions hidden on each disc.

Whoever said that there's "no proof" that this isn't just a repackaging-- it's pretty clear that's what it is. All the discs have is commentary, and there's no bonus disc. It's not like it's an entirely new release. Buying it if you own the '04 box set seems redundant. And if you wanna get technical, there's "no proof" that it's anything substantially (or even minorly) different. If it was some brand new, spiffy OT thing, I would think that would be noted.

I did, because you have no proof. You have some good assumptions, but you don't know.

I could make a case that since Lucas admitted that the OOT wasn't going to be availible anymore due to the loss of VHS and that he may be releasing it in the future so people can access it, I would think a barebones edition of that would be in order.

I could make a case that this set fixes the little problems with the DVDs with no real creative changes, and that's why it's cheaper and lacks the extras. Basically 'replacements' for last years.

I could also go on, because I have just as much proof as you do.

I agree. Either of your assumnptions would be great if they came true.

Well, I've heard decent arguments now from both sides of the debate, and there's only a few certainties - it's clearly not the theatrical cuts of either the originals or the 90's SE's. Simple logic dictates that they will, at least, editorally be the same cuts as the prior DVD box set.

I tend to agree with Hardcore Legend though, that until one of us buys this set (you know you will) the likelihood of some of the 'errors' in the DVD set is still pretty good. There was a clear message from Lucasfilm that they knew fans were upset by the botched sound edit of 'Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope: The SESE Edition' (hee hee) so why wouldn't they quietly address those issues?

Lucas is known for adjusting his films until they are 'perfect' in his eyes, so I now see no reason why the little bugs wouldn't be addressed.

I guess I'll eat my words either way when we have new proof.

Yeah, like I said, he would never admit that he made a mistake in the 2004 audio.
Author
Time
He'll be more or less admitting it when he fixes it. Look at how the Greedo scene was re-adjusted.
Author
Time
He doesn't like to admit those things verbally, though, becuase he has too much of an ego.
Author
Time
Can't remember where, but I seem to remember Lucas verbally admitting that he wasn't happy with the '97 SE Jabba, hence the change to the DVD version.

The Greedo scene and the '97 Jabba are different cases. Even though Georgie changed them again later, those were specific changes made within the movies-- I don't think Lucasfilm made any statements assuring that those were "intentional" changes, as if people thought they were accidental, or a result of poor QC. Those were instances of Lucas tinkering.

The botched audio on the '04 ANH was publicly admitted to be a "deliberate creative decision." So now there's gonna be a quietly "fixed" release? (would that also include less of a blue tint, and better saber colors, etc?) The recent Menace and Clones "re-releases" were nothing more than re-priced identical discs, so I don't expect anything different or earthshattering this time either.

I'm willing to bet money that this bonus-disc-less set is merely nothing more than a money grab on the heels of the Sith release, just in time for Xmas, with old-school art to dupe and/or entice fans into double-dipping.

Either way, I didn't buy the previous box set, and I ain't buyin' this one. If Santa wants to drop one under the tree, that's cool.

From thedigitalbits.com:

We've gotten word from 20th Century Fox and Lucasfilm that they're going to be releasing the Star Wars Trilogy: Limited Edition on DVD on 12/6, in separate widescreen and full frame versions (SRP $49.98 each). This will be a repackaging of the previous movie DVDs, simply without the 4th bonus disc. We've confirmed that these will be the "special edition" versions of the films.

And there you have it.

Damn. That pretty much confirms our (and everyone elses) suspicions! Not even the slightest of changes. Oh well, there will be in the 2007 release, for sure.

I'm going to post something here that I think might be apprpriate. I found this at millenniumfalcon.com:

"I found this link a few months ago and wanted to share it with all of you. As you know, the internet was extremely limited back in 1983, and there certainly was no site like this for all of us to go off on Star Wars.

This is a link to a user group that discussed ROTJ at the time it came out in 1983. I think you will enjoy reading the immediate reactions of those who just saw ROTJ. I especially liked the post where the guy talked about going all the way to Atlanta because that was the only 70mm theatre around, not unlike our efforts to see this movie in digital.

In sum, I think you'll agree that the more things change, the more they stay the same. And that this is a worthy read the night before/day of the opening of ROTS.

And, yes the internet was around. Only it wasn't widely accessible until 10 years ago or so."

Now if they were to release just the artwork, just the cardboard case, I could put my cowclops in there and smile at it.

Someone already posted that some time ago. Still interesting though. Given the whole Qui-Gon deleted scene issue, this post is especially interesting. George really should have blackmailed Liam Neeson to come back.

Why does the body of Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker)
remain after his death. If indeed he denounced the
dark side of the force before he died shouldn't his
body have disappeared like Obi-Wan and Yoda?

War does not make one great.

Well, becuase he disappeared off of camera. He wasn't supposed to be in the suit at the end of ROTJ when Luke burned the suit.

I have to give credit where credit is due. Unlike many of the recent Lucasfilm releases, with poorly done covers, the boxset for this one actually looks good. Now the covers for the individual discs might still be lousy, but so far the art looks much better than the previous release.

Edit: Lucasfilms Star-Wars related stuff, I should add. The Indiana Jones set was ok, IMHO.
