TFN and LFL are one big happy family. Once Paul Ens got hired by LFL it was downhill from there for TFN. Now they got bought out by Wise and they are worse now than they ever were. Hell, the very fact that he has a monopoly on the SW autograph industry is enough of an LFL connection right there. But it is a small one overall. Who knew that I would ever miss the days of Josh and Nicole? And I HATED those a**clowns.

Yep Jack - that's exactly what I'm saying.

Oh for fuck's sake get off it - there's no way anyone from LFL looks to the internet for ideas on how to make a 'better' film. Prove to me once and for all that Lucas reads any message board and works some fanboy idea into a scene in a movie.

If anything the only thing they pay attention to is the "Hey, I'd like a 9-titted Jabba's Dancer action figure" posts.

COME ON! If they really listened we'd have the OOT on DVD and this site wouldn't exist.

There are TONS of copies of the 2004 box set, as I see it everywhere I go. Is the price on that going to drop? Are stores going to yank them all off the shelves in the next 2 months to make way for the 2004 2.0 set? Yeah, constant re-re-releasing DVD's has become the norm, but that doesn't make it any less crass or stupid. If you already bought it the first time, you won't have the cool OT artwork on the new version. If you didn't buy it before, you'll be missing the bonus 4th disc on this one. Either way: it's lame. And Fool Screen?!? Come ON, already. Get rid of those 8 tracks of the DVD world. Network TV shows are in widescreen these days-- I think John Q. Public can handle the black bars now.

And I would laugh if the new release had any fixes, since we all know the errors on the '04 box set were a "deliberate creative decision."
We don't have enough road to get up to 88.

The box is most definitely just the 2004 box without the bonus disc, and the box art has been changed. I know a fan or two who will buy this 'barebones' (I use the term in quotations because it was pretty barebones with the bonus disc anyway) rerelease just for the art on the side. I think that traditional poster art is nice, would've been better on the 2004 box than Vader - more interesting and closer to the feel of the OT. However, I own the 2004 box and therefore there's no reason to purchase this release.

I mean, seriously, there's no need to argue about it. Lucas/Fox/Whoever is simply trying to cash in on the Star Wars franchise for Christmas. Obviously when people go to pick up Episode III, those who hadn't purchased the 2004 box might be intrigued to buy the OT simply because it's there. I know that some areas haven't had the 2004 box in stock for a long time, other stores are riddled with them. It is a money-making rerelease in time for christmas. That's all.

Another ? from a frustrated Star Wars fan.

It is so easy what Lucas could do it is scary. Release O-OT on DVD this year, the purists will be happy and never bitch again. For those who like the SE, they have the 2004 editions. Then in 2007, for the Ultra 6 disc set, he can make whatever changes he wants, and you won't hear a peep from us.

If you grew up with the OT from 1977-83, pull your pants down, we are getting it again from old George.

With news like this, I understand now how there are so many divisions in the Star Wars community. Remember when we all defended these movies from people who DIDN'T like Star Wars, now we just argue with ourselves. Sad...Sad...Sad... I envy the Lord of the Rings Fans, they are like us in 1983, complete and happy.

I agree too, I envy them too, its taken some of the pleasure away from liking these films, and having a sensible conversation and friendly debates on the films (except on this forum, thankfully)

I hate to break it to the guy who gave the tip to TF.N, but we told them about it as soon as we posted the news article We always pimp Star Wars releated news there (and most other SW related sites). As for the set, it's the same as the one that came out last year, minus the bonus disc. Lucasfilm always said that last year's release was a limited edition (just not that limited). It's no different than when they took TPM and AOTC off of the shelves, only to re-release them to coincide with the ROTS release. The discs have the commentaries with the same participants (oh and Easter eggs) as the existing release.

I can't see that they would have fixed any of the 'crative decisions'. Doing it so soon after the initial release would surely open them up to way too much criticism. In fact, I wonder if their would be a case for legal action if such fixes were made? It would be pretty conclusive proof that the exisiting sets are seriously flawed if they acknowledged and fixed the mistakes. Just can't see it happening myself.

Here we go again. Now that I think of it this span of time since that last VHS release was made (about the time of episode I VHS release I think) and before the 2004 DVD was pretty peaceful. That was probably the longest period of time without a new re-release in the history of SW rereleases. So now it has begun again. New OT boxset before Christmas, probably some time in the next six months we will six the whole saga released together, probably all with exculsive cover art so we will all be tempted to rebuy all six of them. Hopefully sooner or later if nothing else one of the OT sets will be fixed. Until they release a real original trilogy on DVD, I am not going to buy any of them. I remember how proud I was of my old THX faces set on VHS, simple little set, but they were the movies I loved. I don't suppose there will ever be an offical DVD set as beautiful as those.

The fixes would be the only good reason I could think of for the re-release. Besides the obvious "lets get everyone to buy it again" angle. Of course, they should of just done it right the first time and not made some of the obvious and stupid mistakes.

Looking around the net

Not a popular release by Lucasfilm.

again people want the O-O-T or something new to be released, on all these different messageboards and were were cheesed off when it was just a re-release and not that or anything new.

It's now a civil war between star wars fans, rather than a united war against a common foe. That certainly gives star wras fans a bad name compared to Lord of the Rings fans.

What?

I'd like someone to provide one piece of evidence from either FOX or LFL that this is just a repackaging of the 2004 release.

I know Lucas discussed in the 'Making of ROTS' book that he had noticed the windows problem in ESB, and it would be fixed for all future releases.

He seems to make many useless changes, and leave the needed ones unchanged (Tatooines matte painting at beginning of ANH).

Thats because there are idiot fanboys who want to flame and wind up other sections of the fanbase, the younger ones are the worse they take this piss out of the older fans eg(one idiot on theforce.net taking the piss out of the O-O-T and saying he hopes these fans are treasuring their dusty crumpled VHS( if he had half a brain he would reliase there are ways to get it not officialy) and Lucas makes many more changes so they will cling on to it till to it wears out, an actual post) and the mods did fuck all and let wars go on.

Signed up ages ago but I have ever only posted twice on the place because of what I have observe, you cant cristise or have a proper adult opinion on Lucas the SE and Prequels without some fanboys getting distrugled and starting an argument.

I guess Vader still has his pink "bubble gum" lightsaber in TESB and ROTJ?

The quality control of the DVD transfer/Lowry cleanup was horrible.

Thank God we have Citizen's DVD transfer now!
