OT Deleted Scenes Discussion — Page 2

Lots of lost colour and pits and scratches by the looks of it.

Plenty of work for the preservation/restoration guys and maybe a bit of material for the fan editors too.

Imagine the Jerjerrrod scenes placed in a new impressive control room set.

I wonder how much of this could be turned into reasonably cinematic material with a lot of work?

Meh. Glad it was all removed. These are curiosities and nothing more.

Is it just me, or are all these scenes stuff that seemed to work far better in the novelizations rather than onscreen?

I'm especially glad that I did not buy the blu-rays just for this stuff, like some people probably have.

It's very nice and sort of unreal seeing these scenes after all these years, the ones from Empire are definitely the highlights IMO, especially liked Fisher and Hamill's scene in the medical center, damn how lovely young Fisher looked. Considering the often corny dialogue they had to work with I think Hamill, Ford and Fisher did a damn good job with the material they had to work with, the chemistry between those actors were a big part of why these films worked. I've always liked the performance of Garrick Hagon as Biggs in those Toshe Station - scenes, he really pull off that character and make him seem real even with a cape and sometimes silly dialogue, he did a great job. But I understand why all these scenes were cut, they're all nice on their own but they don't belong in the films, they did the right choice IMO.

I'm actually surprised they were presented in HiDef, that was really nice, but how ironic to have scenes cut from the movies presented in high definition but the actual films are still stuck in laserdisc resolution. Must be the first time in history of motion pictures something like that happen.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

As raw footage they are just curios but if placed inside reworked scenes with different pacing they could be a really useful resource to fan-editors etc.

They deserve a clean up at the very least (as far as that is possible) so plenty of potential work for the creative arms of the community.

Ye, I understand this point. I just don't like fan edits from an ethical point of view.

I'm happy too that most of those were cut although I agree that they should have cut to less ewoks and add more bunker/Falcon action. Jerjerrod's scenes were cool and very interesting but still, a little too much.

What I don't get is the people running and carrying guns on Falcon while fighting in space? Did they have to build the gunner stations? LOL

Maybe the Rebels weren't sure how the reactor core of the Death Star could be destroyed... so they brought a boarding party, just in case they had to get out of the Falcon and plant any explosives by hand.

Kind of odd first of all that your name is "theprequelsrule", and that second of all, your on the the forum for fans of Star Wars that are also (for the most part) really into fan edits.

I am here to support the petition for a high quality release of the OOT. I would be happy with a standard-def DVD, in 16:9. That is all you need to be here.

For the final OT films, I am so glad most of these were cut. They aren't like some film's deleted scenes (like the infamous 30 sec (or less) remark by Scotty in ST II that the kid who later dies is his nephew) that you question why they were ever cut. There is not much there that really moves the story forward. Luke's conversations at the homestead fill the same roll the Biggs scenes do in explaining his character. The sandstorm scene would have worked sans the blowing sand (good keepable dialog, but the sandstorm was too much), but for pacing it really wasn't needed.

Now from a fan edit perspective, these are gold. I've had an edit in mind that would include most of the ANH scenes. It would take some work to get what I have in mind, but not too much. And I'm sure that there are quite a few who are teeming with ideas already. Deleted Magic is now in need of a serious revision.

Old Woman on Tatooine: Neat to see I guess?

Blue Milk: Loved it!

Stormtrooper Search: ?? ?? ? ?  I can see why it was cut.

Vader Widens The Search: Can see why it was cut, but always neat to see more of the DS.

Full Biggs/Luke Reunion: Why wasn't this in the SE? It doesn't even conflict with the PT at all.

Han/Leia Echo Base Extended Argument: Can see pacing issues, but great stuff from both actors! Wouldn't mind this in a fan-edit.

Luke's Recovery: Ok.

Luke And Leia In The Medical Center: Loved Leia's frustration and the term "moon jockeys." Would love to see this in a fan edit.

Echo Base Wampa Attack: Interesting subplot. Don't know what it would have added.

Lobot's Capture: Never ever wondered what happened to him.

Vader Talks To Luke/New Lightsaber: Sweet to finally see. Makes Luke much more interesting with this reveal.

Sandstorm: Geez I wish this had audio! I'd love to see this added in!

Rebel Bunker Raid: More than anything, this should be added into a fan edit!

Jerjerrod's Conflict: I can see why this was cut, but perhaps the bit where Jerrjerrod is updated on the battle could be added in to flesh out the final battle. The whole countdown to destroying the planet is to ANH.

The Lost Rebels: The MF gunners, girl pilot's voice, and Mon Cal pilot should totally be editied into the movie.

I for one would be willing to go through some of these frame by frame and clean them up. I can't do HD video, but I can photoshop.

If anything, it would have given Lucas a character he could put into the PT for more "rhyme."

I can see it. Right after the crash in ROTS a little kid with red hair comes up to Anankin.

YOUNG RED 5: Gee Mistah Annakin, you sure are something? Can I grow up to be a great pilot like you?

ANNAKIN: Eat your space-vegetables kiddo.

Add in a hair tousle and it's perfect.

Except Red Five was Luke. That guy was Red Leader. =P *pushes his glasses back up and adjusts his pocket protector*

My thoughts about the scenes:

Vaporator/Tosche Station: Good cut - the station sequence ran way too long. They could have kept Luke's original introduction at the vaporator, though.

Blue Milk: This was probably just shot for transitional purposes. Don't see what the point is.

Full Biggs/Luke Reunion: I love Red Leader's dialogue - it makes me wish he was a supporting character in the prequels.

Luke's Recovery: I quite like this scene. I felt that the recovery sequence in the finished film was too short and didn't convey the sense of concern the group had for Luke.

Luke And Leia In The Medical Center: The heavy flirtation (and almost-kiss) was a great removal. The subsequent conversation (where Leia is exasperated to find that everyone wants to split up) should have stayed in.

General Veers' Death: I don't think it would have added much to the final battle.

Leia Tends to Luke: Pacing. It runs way too long and makes Luke seem flippant about Han's circumstances (the way Hamill says "Poor Han..." is almost anticlimactic).

Vader Talks To Luke/New Lightsaber: Had the goofy "Luuuukkkkee... Luuuuuukkkkkee..." remarks been reduced or removed entirely, this could have been a great scene.

Jerjerrod's Conflict: The first scene is acted very poorly - Jerjerrod's actor doesn't sell being choked, while Vader looks like he's doing the Pledge of Allegiance when he puts his hand to his chest. Still, I love Jerjerrod's sneer when he says, "YOU may not enter." The second sequence is decent, but it would have killed the pacing of the final battle (that, and it was clearly intended to be a reprise of the Yavin 4 countdown from ANH).

Vaporator/Tosche Station: I'm not a fan of Luke's hat. It doesn't work with his Karate outfit, imo. If it could be altered.... I don't need to see Luke being called "Wormie." Not a fan of Biggs' outfit either. I never thought that two of the dozen reb pilots being from the most remote backwater system was very credible- good cut imo. If Biggs' outfit and face could be altered, it might be possible to sneak in some good expo ;/- and the others are great. Or, could take Biggs out of the DS attack ;/ Or, just for fun, just alter the hat and outfit and cut it down. Grindhouse would be fun.

Blue Milk: THX ref? So short I doubt it would hurt anything. It's fun. It could be cut even shorter.

Biggs/Luke reunion: From the same system?

Luke's Recovery: I'd definitely like to see it.

Luke/Leia Med Center: Needs to be cut a bit- but great interaction! :) A bit might be added to the prequels about the droids watching the two and making sure they don't get into trouble. Great interuption.

     Veer's Death: Oh well.

Leia Tends to Luke: Would need alot of trimming. Luke's reactions could be trimmed to seem less flippant. "Poor Han." to just a louder " Oh, Han!" It's not necessary but adds some interest for an edit.

Vader/Luke New Sabre: Has anyone tried moving that to Dagobah? Replace Luke watching Yoda? After death?

Jerjerrod and Vader: My favorite! I love the attempt to retaliate after being owned by Vader at the start. Needs a faster pace, imo. Quick cut to Jer sneering while telling him no, a quick cut to the Emp sitting quietly on his throne, back to being choked a couple beats before explaining, cobble some JEJ audio to get a sarcastic "Apology accepted." type remark. Maybe darken the whole scene and polish Vader to make it more ominous.

May I have some screencaps of the ROTJ Vader scenes please? I don't have a way to play the videos on my PC or I would get them. Thank you.
