If you want to make this about character ok, lets do it.

If you want to make this into some sort of anger-driven shitfest, then you can take your bravado someplace else. You and I are fans, nothing more.  We don't own the teams, we don't manage the teams, nor do we play on the teams.

Your criticisms of the Yankees are well known and agreed with in most sports circles. I agree with them also.  The team has done a great many things I'm not at all fond of. However, I don't condemn the players who are uninvolved.

Regarding the new stadium and increased ticket prices - this past season was the first one in many years where I didn't fly back to attend several Yankees games. I'm not ok with the 76% increase in ticket prices. For the record, A-Rod is one of my least favorite players.  I thought the money could have been better spent.

I'm aware of your past issues here and I was around for a few of them.  I see the hate-filled anger showing itself in your reply to my post - a post that was fandom, not hate. I stated I didn't care for how Howard or his people handled the event and I posted a link for people who may want to read about it.  If you want to continue on this course of crotch-grabbing and venom, then you better be ready.

I can't stress this last point enough - be very careful with any hate you direct my way. I'm not the Yankees, I'm a fan of many of the players on the team - you need to remain clear on that distinction.

Not to make light of Anchorhead's post but man, if the Cubs were any good, I would *so* grab my crotch.  More than usual, I mean.

take it easy, Anchorhead.  I wasn't attacking you, just your team.  I have nothing against you personally.  You went after the character or my team(or at least Ryan Howard), so I went after the character of your team.  But,  I was not, nor did I intent to go after you personally.   Please, let us both have fun with this.   I now very little about you or your history here.   I can assure you, you had nothing to do with my leaving the forum before.  I assure you, I did not come back to make enemies.   I do not want you as my enemy.   I do not hate you, just your team(and in only a kidding way do I hate your team).   Lets have fun with this and not hate each other. ok?

With that, I take back what I said about the Yankees, if Anchorhead takes back what he tried to intimate about Ryan Howard.

I wish to have fun with this, not spread hatred.   Anchorhead, I think you've formed an inaccurate opinion of me.

Dayv can speak for me.  I absolutely hate his Dallas Cowboys, yet Dayv and I are good friends.

My question is, when they tried to trade the signed ball for the home run ball,  where was the mother?

They didn't try - they just did it.  That was after they lied to her, by the way. They told her if she left the ball in the clubhouse and came back after the game, she could meet Ryan Howard and he would sign it for her.  When she came back, she didn't get to meet anyone - a security guard handed her a different ball. She had no say in the matter, she was never given a choice. Her mother wasn't at the game, only the two kids were escorted to the clubhouse.

I didn't intimate anything.  I said I didn't like the way the Phillies handled this situation and then I posted a link to the story.

For the record, I hope Ryan Howard eventually hits 763 home runs - so that the record no longer resides with a roid-raged cheater.

Again I don't think we know the full story yet.   I wonder if it was just a miscommunication.  I doubt very much that the Phillies would actually try to deliberately deceive the girl.    The Phillies management isn't stupid. They don't want nor need bad PR.   I find it hard to believe that they would purposefully lying the girl just to get the ball.   Might they offer her a signed ball for the home run ball? yes.  Would they lie to here and say "give us the ball and will have Howard sign it give it back to you" as a way to con the ball away from the girl?  I doubt it.  Doing so would be asking for trouble.   Doing something like that would be a dumb thing to do.  The Phillies organization isn't that dumb.   Like I said, maybe it was a miscommunication.   Maybe this girl only thought they said they were going to sign the Home run ball give it back to her.   Maybe it was a miscommunication between the Phillies Employee that talked to the girl and the rest of the Phillies organization.   I still want to hear their side of things.

it sounded as though you were trying paint the Phillies as the bad guys in the World Series.

Anchorhead said:

All that said, even if I weren't a Yankees fan, I'd pull for whichever team was against them - based solely on how poorly Ryan Howard & Co handled this event;

It seems like you were trying show reason to not root for them, so,  I decided to show reasons why the Yankees might be the bad guys and reasons not to root for them.

*facepalm*

Oh, that Bartman.  He's dead to me.

Actually, I never really blamed him for what happened.  Yeah, he should have given Alou a chance to catch the ball, but several other people are trying to catch it as well.  And he didn't pitch the rest of the inning, nor game 7 for that matter.

I blame the goat.

No, they lied to her instead.

Warbler said:

she did agree to the trade.

Incorrect.

Warbler said:

A 14 year old girl can't consent to such a trade

And she didn't.

Phillies fan - The events that took place that evening haven't been contested by the Phillies. They wanted the ball and they found a way to get it from her - "we'll hold the ball for you until you come back later and meet Ryan Howard and he'll sign it for you...here, have some cotton candy and go back to your seat" - she comes back later, the team is gone and a security guard gives her a different ball.

Warbler, you can look at this from any angle you want - the Phillies wanted that ball the moment it went over the wall and they never had any intention of letting her keep it. They thought getting it from a 14-year-old girl would be easy and that she would just go away when they lied to her and left the stadium with her baseball. They were incorrect.

It's clear from your posts and conflicting statements that you see your team as above any sort of wrong doing - no matter how many times it's been proven otherwise, by several people who were there, as well as being decided in a court of law.

There is more than enough documented evidence, from very credible sources, stating what happened. It's unfortunate you've chosen to ignore it.

have they been confirmed by the Phillies?

As far as I know, they've settled out of court.   They filed suit, but the day after,  the Phillies gave the ball back. Who are these "several people"  you refer to?    What documentation do you have?   I far I knew, we only had the girl's word for it that this all took place. From the article, the Phillies wanted to wait until the end of the season to talk about the situation, but the girl decided not to wait and filed suit and so the Phillies gave her the ball just to keep it from getting any worse for themselves.  I don't think my team is above wrong doing, I just think they are above the kind of stupidity it would take to do what those "several people"  claim the Phillies did.   It would be like committing PR suicide.   My question is, what does it matter? The girl got the ball back.  End of story.

In 24 hours, the World Series beings.  GO PHILLIES!!!!   yankees SUCK!!!

On the off chance that I didn't make myself clear enough in my previous post, let me repeat it...

Anchorhead said:

Warbler, you're repeated statements - each one with a little less of your feigned civility - means I won't be discussing baseball with you anymore. You're the kind of fan who takes the fun out of discussing sports. Your teams are always perfect - or have been treated unfairly & misrepresented.

I regret that you've decided that.    I never meant to take the fun of this away from you.   I felt like you were doing that to me. But I believe that you didn't mean to and weren't aware you were doing so, and neither was I.

Perhaps you are right about what happened between the Phillies and the 14 year old girl.  Maybe I've been defending them too much.   I'd still like to hear a statement from the Phillies about the incident, though.   Certainly, if what the girl claims happened actually did happen,  the Phillies are in the wrong.  I'm sorry if I took it too personally.

Anchorhead said:

- each one with a little less of your feigned civility -

this really bothers me.  I really don't mean to come off as fake.  But, you are not the only one who has claimed that I come of as fake sounding.   So I have to believe it is so.  I want to be civil and and I want to come off as really being civil and not fake civil.  I am trying to change.  Please give me another chance, ok?

If you don't want to discuss sports with me, that is your choice.  I hope you change your mind.  I will not stop discussing sports and am still willing to do so with you.   Again, please understand, it is not you I hate, just your team.   So, when I shout "yankees suck!"  or other insults at the Yankees,  please don't take it personally.    ok?   Please let us be friends(even if you still don't wish to discuss sports with me anymore).   That said,

GO PHILLIES!!!  yankees Suck!!!   Revenge for Whiz Kids is at hand!!  Do it for Richie Ashburn and Harry Kalis!  BEAT THE yankees!!!!!!!!

Well the Phillies lost game 2, 1 to 3.  At least we were able to take 1 game away from the yanks in New York.   Now we need to win atleast 2 in Philadelphia.  The lost rests squarely on the Phillies bats.   You can't expect to win a World Series game against the yankees when you only score one run.   To bad for Martinez, despite giving up 2 home runs, he pitched a good game.   The Umps need their eyes checked.   They blew two callings in tonight's game, 1 against the Phillies and 1 against the Yankees.   For a World Series game,  2 blown calls is two too many.   I think we need instant replay.

The Phillies lost again 5-8.   Today's game is must win for the Phillies.    If we go down 1-3 in the series, it's over.  We've got to win this game and the next.  Our bats need to come alive again.

I just wish cheaters never prospered.

Too bad in reality they do.

Look how many championships the yankees won with clemens, and how many cy young awards clemens won.

The all time greats did not use steroids.  If Baseball is our national pastime it needs to be cleaned up not by the government but the baseball commissioner has to do his job.

I wish the Red Sox were in the series but i will now want The Phillies to win because the Yankees don't deserve to win any more than the Chicago Blacksox who fixed the series and were several of them banned for life and the curse not lifted for almost a hundred years.

Which cheaters do you wish never prospered?  Ortiz?  Manny?  Look how many championships the Red Sox won with them.

The Yankees won 2 World Series with Clemens on the team - the same number the Sox won with Manny & Papi.

Clemens' Cy Young awards:

5 with the Sox

1 with the Yankees

1 with the Astros

Sky, the Yankees last won the World Series nine years ago.  The Red Sox have won twice since then, with two of their biggest players on the juice.  In the steroid era, no team is above suspicion and the Yankees were far from having the market cornered on cheaters.

And just so I make myself clear on this;  I can't stand Clemens. I didn't want him on the team the first time and I was particularly disgusted when they interrupted a game during the 7th inning stretch in 2007 with Clemens in the personal suite of the Boss, taking the microphone and saying "they came and got me...".  What a colossal waste of money that was.

I hate that the Philadelphia Inquirer ran an ad for Macy's this morning's paper that advertised the Phillies 2009 back to back World Series Champion tee shirt.    It was for page ad on back page of section A.   It showed a picture of the tee shirt and congratulated the Phillies for winning this year's World Series.  How the hell did they make that kind of mistake!?!  It's bad enough I'm going to have to deal with Phillies losing the World Series to the yanks.  But have to see the tee shirt and know what could and should have been.   That is like rubbing my nose in it.   Someone at Inquirer should be shot.

"just when I think I'm out, they pull back in!"   Phillies win!  8-6!  The series goes back to New York.  Its going to be very difficult to win 2 games in the fake yankee stadium.  But as Harry Kalis would say, we've got "high hopes".   Lets go Phillies!!!!!!!
