Nukie (1987) LaserDisc Digitized

Since we’re currently working through preserving DS9 and Voyager using stacked LaserDisc sources, we’ve been on the lookout for other properties that never made it past VHS and LaserDisc and aren’t available from any on-demand providers.

A few years ago, the 1987 sci-fi family movie “Nukie” gained notoriety when the YouTube channel Red Letter Media collected over 100 VHS copies of the movie and then destroyed them with a wood chipper to artificially inflate the value of the tape, which they then sold for over $80,000. They also kindly captured a copy of the tape and posted it to archive.org. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s a great watch: https://youtu.be/Lbdij5Vi8oY

One of our team members found and ordered a LaserDisc copy of Nukie, and we have now captured and digitized it, and it is now available for your viewing… um, “pleasure.”

Friends, I present to you, in the highest quality available online, “Nukie,” in both its original standard definition and in HD upscale. Enjoy, if you can.

Well, it’s certainly more surreal when viewed in this high a quality. Kind of like when the HD restoration of Manos happened.

Thank you!

I’m just here because I’m driving tonight.

Did it get taken down? I came back to download it, and it doesn’t look like it is up on the wayback machine. You could probably fit it on a free Google Drive account.

Was this ripped with the Domesday Duplicator?

Yes, if it’s not digitized via Domesday Duplicator it’s not the highest possible quality.
