Nothing Past 1997 - A Fans Stand

Well, I sit here a heart-broken man. I went and saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull the other day and left very sad. Another one of my cherished franchies has been crap'd on again by the men who created it. Why does George Lucas punish us so much? So, I'm sitting here and have come to a conclusion. NOTHING PAST 1997. What does this mean you may ask? Simple. I refuse to purchase anything past that year for Star Wars. That year is when the crap started flowing. And you all know what I am talking about. The Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition. I packed up everything of mine that was related to the Prequel Trilogy or the Special Edition. I deleted my xvids of the Prequels on my Media Server and renamed the Original Trilogy to what they were. No longer will I refer to them as the Original Trilogy. To me, they are The Star Wars Trilogy. And no Episode x before their name either. And anything related to the new Indiana Jones movie that I have purchased has been boxed up. Most likely never to see the light of day. Some, if not most of you will think I'm nuts. But I tell you, I can't take this anymore. Each time some crap from George Lucas comes out now, it invects my childhood memories. And I will tolerate that no longer.

It’s Not the Years, It’s the Mileage.

I said that I would do that if a young Han was in Revenge of the Sith. I didn't think KotCS was as bad as you apparently do, so I'm still open to the prequels and such.

BTW, should this be in this particular forum, since it really doesn't have all that much to do with Collecting?

Unfortunately, I agree with IrshLuck1980.
It is disappointing how both franchises have become.
The original Clone Wars in 2003 was better than parts of Episode 1 or 2.
I always felt, visually, Lucas still had the touch.
But for storytelling, he should have assigned to someone as.
Example: Empire. Kershner knew how it should be done. If Lucas followed his rules, perhaps the Prequels would have turned out differently.
Thank you.

I agree wholeheartedly with IrishLuck though i would say nothing past 1995.  Except for the bantam novels and the dark horse comics.

1996 was shadows of the empire, now i don't entirely hate shadoes but characters like Xizor and Dash Rendar aka cheap Han Solo knockoff were not needed.

1997 was the year that will live in infamy the year that buried the originals forever, and allowed these bastard creations called special editions to take their place.

1999 Jar Jar and prequels premiere nuff said.  Also Chewie dies in Vector Prime and the New Jedi crap. i mean order novels are released.

2006 non anamorphic gout from 1993 laserdisc released as bonus discs.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

I thought KOTCS was pretty entertaining and brainless and didn't have the severe allergic reaction that a lot of people had to it, but as far as the meat of the original post is concerned, I pretty much agree and did the same thing a few years back with both my Star Wars and Star Trek hobbying. In my world, Star Wars is only the original trilogy and Star Trek is only the original series and the first six movies. The rest, I leave for the birds. My friends refer to it as when I "became a fundamentalist geek".
