Is anyone interested in a re"vamp" of this using a higher quality copy of the movie, with recreations of the original German titlecards and scenes tinted to convey mood?

Also, things stand at around 30 downloads - what did some of you people who just snagged it think?

Andy,

I just watched a few segments of your project. Very good work! Thanks for sharing it with us.

If you're interested in viewing other tint jobs before you attempt yours, you should look at the index/comparison of the various versions here:

Nosferatu Comparison

It's packed full of information (probably even overkill)

Criterion Projects done: She's Gotta Have It, The Princess Bride, The Fisher King

In Progress Criterions: The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (99% done), Taxi Driver (90% done), Citizen Kane (50% done), Othello (99.99% done)

Possibly coming next: Ghostbusters, The Magnificent Ambersons (the theatrical cut, a reconstruction according to Prof. Carringer's script analysis, and the colorized version)

search for a program called "hjsplit" It's a simple little freeware program that joins all of the .001, .002, etc. files into the original zip file.

thanks for the help.
I did get all the files to join correctly into one file called NOSFERATU_ALT.zip and when I started to extract the one .zip file it said that the .vob file was corrupt.

Anymore help or ideas on what to do?
I'm going to try and d/l the first file again for the 3rd time.
Im also going to install the latest version of winrar

Could somebody maybe post some PAR files to see if that can repair or fix it.

you can simply concatenate the files using your OS-specific tools...

*NIX:
cat *.zip.* > nosferatu.zip

WINDOWS:
copy /b *.zip.* nosferatu.zip

I figured it out. The 3rd zip file was incomplete and re-downloaded it and everything is working now.

So is this ripped from a ROM or recorded from an actual SNES? It just doesn't sound the same if it was just ripped from a ROM.

Also I think it would be better to score it with a variety of music from CV games including Dracula X and source it from one of the DVD's containing the "extended" version of the film.

I would recommend the BFI Video version because it's in a "window box" format for most picture seen unlike the other releases that are cropped.

For those of you with OS X:

There is even a Universal Binary, and there is a special 7zip foormat that will even preserve spotlight info. 7zip is a much better format to compress the files in then RAR, and also a lot cheaper as the RAR encoder is not free.

Great work on this. One site you may want to check out is:
http://castlevania.classicgaming.gamespy.com/

They have tons of Castlevania soundtracks already ripped, so it would save you a bit of work at least. I would also recomend using the Kino dvd, it is the most complete version of the movie, with more acurate titles based on discoveries made in the last few years. It can be found online pretty cheap. The only problem with it is both included soundtracks are terrible, but for your puposes that shouldn't be a problem. Best of luck.

Do you have the Kino version? I am curious about what the title cards and intertitles look like.

Yes, I watched it right after you posted your results. There is a good website that compares the various dvd releases:

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare/nosferatu-1/Nosferatu%20Image%20vs%20Kino.html

Here is a link to a website with a very indepth historical article about the various restorations and how the Kino version is the most accurate:

http://www.celtoslavica.de/chiaroscuro/vergleiche/nos.html

I really recomend that article, it got me to buy the Kino release. I own the Kino version and I have seen the Image Entertainment release. The only thing better about the latter is the soundtrack. The Kino version has two kind of weird electronic sounding ones, which I don't like at all. This is why I am so interested in your project. I would love to do this myself if I had time and the talent, but I don't at the moment. A better soundtrack, like the one you made, synched up to it would be so awesome. As it is now I watch it with no volume because I can't stand the crap they put on there, so I am missing out on an important piece of the movie.

I did get a chance to watch your release and I thougt it was awesome.

Hi there!

I found this thread and the proyect sounds terrific!!! But when I tried to take a look at the files it seems that I can't download them.

Is there any other way to check it out? Thanks!!

It seems that Rapidshare has cut down the length of time they hold files up.

I know that Rikter might have a copy. Others here may be able to help you out.

I probably will not re-up this project for the time being, or not until I decide whether or not to use a better source (which I just might do).

Thanks for the interest!

Thanks for the info man. As I read in the forum it was a cool edit. I'll ask around here, in case someone could help.

If you're going to improve it with a better source, I may help with the menus if you need some help: I haven't seen the current ones, but I may help providing motion menus with intros and stuff (maybe you have already made them this way, but just in case...).

The rapidshare time restriction for the files sure is a real pitty.

Anyway, thanks for your fast answer and your interest!
