wow, I'm amazed that GL is getting off his dumbass to even do this.  Shame it's not comin' out on Blu-Ray.

As big of a flop as this movie was, I still got a kick of out it, even if it was cheesy.

It came out about a month ago.  Should run you $10 to $12.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

The funny thing is, about a year ago I was hanging out with a friend of mine who was reminiscing about growing up in The Philippines and watching stuff on betamax, including Howard the Duck. I wasn't sure if it'd been released on dvd here in the States yet, and I figured if it had I would've heard about it. We did a google search and saw it'd been released on region 2, but my friend must've forgotten about that part cuz I randomly got a text message a few weeks later from him saying "don't forget what I want for my birthday, dude: Howard the Duck!"

I doubt he would've heard about this region 1 release. The only movie news site he reads is comingsoon.net, not chud or aintitcool like me.

Looks like I know what I'm surprising him with.

I didn't even realize this was out yet. I was at a friends house examining his extensive Marvel comic movie adaption DVD library, which reminded me of hearing about the official Howard the Duck R1 DVD release. I mentioned it to my friend and he told me it had been out for over a month and that he had already bought it. Sometimes I feel like I live under a rock. :( I need to visit the video store more often and start frequenting some nerdy entertainment news sites.

We live in a very strange universe one in  which an awful movie like Howard the  Duck gets a remastered anamorphic dvd release from a newly made HD remaster taken from its original negative and star wars original trilogy is still laserdisc masters non anamorphic.

What is next a fully restored and remastered star wars holiday special before the oot gets a decent release, lol.

Yes, it is a tad ridiculous that we've now gotten this and yet still no remastered OOT. Lucas doesn't actually own the distribution rights to any of his movies, he just owns the rights to the movies themselves (and even that isn't true of THX and Graffiti). At digitalbits I've read a transcript of a chat with someone from Warner Home Video and they actually said THX might get a blu-ray release as early as this year. GL wouldn't have any say in that. Even if he owned the rights to the film itself, WB owns distribution.

It actually begs the question of why 20th Century Fox didn't/doesn't just take the best surviving OOT film elements from their own vaults and put out a decent set themselves. Does this all stem from GL's renegotiation of terms back in the mid-90's?

Possible that when GL did the SEs he got all the prints from the distribution companies (maybe just to get the best sources, or infact for this scheme to just distribute the SEs) , and in return he gave back the SE prints, thus why the GOUTs are bad LD transfers

So perhaps the only person with access to the OT prints might just be GL

Why is this thread getting off topic of Howard the Duck?

If Star Wars GOUT came out on Blu-ray, I wouldn't even care. I'm sick of Star Wars now.

Probably because this thread is months out, the DVD has been out for sometime now, and the original topic is no longer relevent.

Why are some people such stricklers that they can't cope with a topic wandering off slightly for a couple of posts?

Anyway, they were talking about other movies by Lucas and their DVD/Blu-ray releases, not their favorite snake foods, so it really isn't that off topic. However, counting in your post and mine, it is pretty far off topic now.
