I don't see any reason he couldn't skip the OOT this time around and then suddenly decide to do it the following year. Yay, more double dipping!
Does keeping it up and getting more signatures change Lucas mind before next year, i doubt it. I don't even want to hope for it because i would again be disappointed when the release comes out and no oot.

There's still over a year to go before this is released - a lot can happen in that time...
I was ready to throw in the towel earlier today, but reading through all the threads made me realise we can still keep on trying, and there's little to be gained by giving up. Even if we just get a "they WILL come out, but not with this set" from George would be something.
The set comes out in the fall next year, so there's tons of time before the discs goto the authoring stages. We can still get media coverage over this thing in the meantime...

I already own Star Wars several times on VHS.
I already own Star Wars several times on Laserdisk.
I already own Star Wars several times on DVD.
Next year I'll own Star Wars for the first of several times on Blu-ray!
Your brain just makes s**t up!
A fate worse than death? Having your head digitally replaced with that of Hayden Christensen!
That is quite obviously a double dip. He's already backing up on the "these versions don't exist anymore" stand and now it's supposedly just too expensive to restore them, so I totally expect a double dip, only this time around he can't give us non anamorphic 93 masters, it's Blu-Ray. So he'll probably say that it will depend on how well the SE Blu-Rays sell and if they sell well enough, then he's gonna remaster the OOT for the money he makes on the SE...
... so we should definitely not stop trying.

George Lucas STAR WARS on bluray isn’t worth a piss anymore!
Only the originals from the 70mm six-track Dolby stereo Dolby format 42 will sound better on DVD/Bluray.
Be sure to let us know which prison we can visit you in.
EDIT: No fair, you changed your rant.
Should we just give up now?
I mean there is not a shred of hope Lucas will ever release the originals ever again in any format, much less in good quality.
I will have to settle for the V3 of the Gout from DJ, i refuse to ever watch the 2004 set ever again.
Some parts of the 2004 star wars and empire are not too bad, the colors are screwed up the lightsabers and the sound. But Jedi is hideous it has Hayden and jar jar in it. I can only watch the 1997 gkar if i am forced to watch a special edition of that movie.

I'm still hoping for another Blu-ray release of the OT with the originals.
As ridiculous as it, I can kind of see the Lucas logic in not including them in a "saga" box set. If he put the OOT in he'd basically have nothing left to sell more Blu-ray editions.

I really don't see it. I think the current Bluray releases will be a hit and I'd even bet half the people boycotting this release will eventually get it anyway. If George is excited about all his changes then he probably has no intention of going back for any amount of money.

Well, that was a random spam bump, but this is something I've been wanting to comment on anyway so here goes:
Now that Disney's set a December 2015 release date for Episode 7, anyone else wanna bet they put out a remastered OOT on blu-ray that September?? It makes too much sense for them not to. At the very least, I would bet we're gonna start hearing rumblings and rumors very soon of how Disney plans to handle an OOT release. There is of course the matter of Fox still owning the distribution rights, but that can be worked out. If George signed away everything on his end, that's all that really matters.
How and when Disney chooses to release it is up to them.
My ultimate point is that it's not so much about "if" as it is about "when" and, more importantly, "how." While we all seem to have our own, individual ideas of what we'd want to see included, we can all agree that the OOT should be given the most thorough restoration possible. I've read so many stories, articles and anecdotes over the years that it's become hard for me to separate fact from fiction regarding the OT film materials.
This seemed as good a thread as any to post in, since I think our focus now should be in making sure Disney does right by the films.
I guess that's a possibility considering they've already repackaged the BD set and they need to have something to cash-in on the hype.
Then again, they might reissue the same set again with a cheap lump of plastic modelled after something from Ep. VII, call it a day and watch the money pour in.
