No Country for Gunmen New Poster (* cancelled project *)

 (Edited)

Now that Renascent is pretty over and done with (until ESB:Revisited is released) I’ll be taking on a new fan-edit outside of Star Wars. This will be my second fan-edit. An edit of No Country for Old Men.

I remember reading the book and loving it, but when I watched the movie I found the pacing to be kind of weak, so I’ll be adding music and splitting Chigur and Lewelyn’s fight in the street so that I can use the rest of the footage in the end sequence. Even reading the book, I felt the last fight should not have been omitted.

The music I will be using will be from the “Man With No Name Trilogy” soundtracks, “The Godfather” and possibly some other soundtrack pieces here and there (video games etc). I’ll also be playing with the colour and grain to make the film look like it’s from the 70’s. No big changes in terms of quality, just a subtle adjustment to make the film look more “classic”. Also, please note that the music I will be using will not be noticeable to the average movie viewer (which means I won’t be using the main theme pieces from the movies I mentioned).

The edit will be in 720p and 5.1 surround sound.

Your ideas are intriguing. I like the idea of the film having a tighter pace, and the proposed changes to the the music and color seem fitting and well thought out.

The new title sounds rather odd and ungrammatical though.  I am not entirely sure what it means. As a suggestion, how does No Country for Old Gunmen sound?

Currently I've acquired the man with No Name Trilogy soundtracks as well as a few other tracks here and there. Anyone know where I can get the Red Dead Revolver and Red Dead Redemption soundtracks?

Hey A-man, this is very interesting to me. I love No Country For Old Men, and I would like to see something along the lines of what you are doing.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I think I'll be doing this before I do the Tron edit. I've got a couple things in mind before Empire Strikes Back: Renascent;

Tron: Liberty

Smallville - Superman (a recut of the Finale)

No Country for Gunmen

I'm unsure which I will tackle first (Gunmen or Superman) - both Gunmen and Smallville shouldn't take more than a month or two - I'm really just reworking soundtracks for both, film grain for Gunmen and supplementary scenes and basic CG for Superman.

Here's a quick scheduling update:

MARCH:
A short-film I wrote last year has been selected for production and I'm Directing that - hopefully shooting it at the end of the month.

I'm also working with two clients for editing and graphic design.

Hopefully I can get started on No Country for Gunmen
APRIL:
Post-Production on my short film.

Another production I was doing has to be reshot because the lab tried developing COLOUR 16mm film with chemicals meant for B/W film. So that and a commercial I'm working on are taking up my month of April.

Hopefully I can finish No Country for Gunmen

MAY:
I have a move at the beginning of the month to a place still unknown (depends on work). On the 7th I have a surgery which takes about two-weeks for me to get full recover. I should be able to get back to full-force fan-editting during my second week of recovery through the end of the summer.

Hopefully I can start SMALLVILLE: Superman

JULY/AUGUST 2012
Hopefully I can start Tron: Liberty and get it done by the end of 2012

EARLY 2013
The Empire Strikes Back: Renascent

AND THEN...
All Harry Potter Films
Return of the Jedi: Renascent
All of the Avengers films (including Iron Man, TIH, CA, Thor, etc)

Hopefully that'll clear things up a bit. But yeah, next stop: No Country for Gunmen!

EDIT: Here are the formats I'll be doing

Bluray 1080p (50GB)
Bluray 720p (25GB)

DVD 480p (8GB)

MKV 720p

After testing out Blu-ray ripping for myself, I decided to scrap the 720 MKV rip + 5.1 DVD Rip idea and I bought No Country on Blu-ray.

I'm excited to get working on this!

Ok I'm scrapping the original opening I had (closer to the opening from the actual film), and instead I'm going to do something closer to classic Spaghetti Westerns.

As much as I REALLY wanted to do this Fan-Edit, I'm afraid I couldn't maintain interest. Instead I'm going to go ahead with Tron: Liberty. Sorry to those of you who were looking forward to this. :(
