Nintendo Wii — Page 12

That is always a chance. I was just saying that all that article said was the announcement would be in September. But it can very well be released in September. I know I'm really hoping for it to be released in September.

I don't know about 2 months, but I used to work at Best Buy and they get stuff in at least 2 weeks before their "street date" as it's called. Companies are *very* serious about these street dates. Selling one before then could get them in real trouble, like not geting stock until the day of, or two days late. I don't know what they do, but stores follow this street date thing. I don't recall anything being stored for more than 2 weeks before street date, but then we didn't have that much space for that kind of thing. More than likely, for a chain like Best Buy it would go to the warehouse for those two months and then get distributed to the stores a week or two prior.

You know, I'm sort of hoping for Nintendo's sake that they won't be selling their consoles at a loss - I don't think they need to to keep it at a competitive price point. Hell, Sony and Microsoft have both outright chosen not to compete with Nintendo on price point.

I also feel that a September release date might be a bit rushed...although, if the 16 launch titles mentioned so far are ready for then, then power to them.

No, september is perfect. Enough time for x-mas, perfect for those who want it a little bit sooner, a good two months before PS3, I say the timing is great. It really surprised me. Let's see how fast can I get one.

If you needed confirmation from IGN, here it is.

The deal is, Nintendo will be revealing their price point and release date in September, so I highly doubt they'll announce and ship within the same month. My guess would be late November.

Thanks RedBaron...That must have been posted late last night cause I was looking for it. Anyway, I agree with what you said about them not shipping within the same month they announce. However, I don't agree with late November. I can't remember where, might have been IGN, but I read that Nintendo wants to get Wii out before the PS3. So I would say late October early November.

My kids are already bugging me for the Wii. My wife will KILL me if I get one when they first come out.

Toy's R Us is taking pre-orders. 50$ to PRE-ORDER(not buy) the system, two controllers and two games. I wanted to pick one up but I might be working elsewhere novemberish.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo has never sold anything at a loss, they make a profit right from launch (well, on the physical hardware, obviously not R&D), it is almost one of their many 'rules'.

[edit]I should have done what I hate others not doing; read the thread before making a reply! All said previously![/edit]

It is funny that so many people (read Xbox and PS2 fanboys) predicted Nintendo were going to go leave the console business, like Sega, after the GameCube, but profit percentage-wise was so much greater than the rest, PS2 only a little over breaking even and Xbox with its eight billion dollar loss.

Ooh, a laserdisc. The Cheat's playin' something on a laserdisc.
Everything is better on a laserdisc. Whatever happened to the laserdisc? Laserdisc!

That's an accurate description of the dilemma I face.

The difference is that the kids will damn you until you get them a wii.

The wife will keep damning you forever. "Honey remember that time 30 years ago when I told you not to get that new Wii? That just goes to show how irresponsible you are."

Tread veerrrrrrryyyy carefully... Make absolute sure you get it with 4 controllers and wii sports or something. So that you can say "see its something for all of us to use, I got it so we can all have fun on riany days." Get elebits and mario. Get wii orchestra (if its not included with sports) so you can say. "Im helping to foster their musical talent."

Little things like that y'know. Goodness knows it works on mothers

Yeah, actually, I've heard that this can be quite an effective technique - making selfish purchases seem like selfless ones. If you talk about how it can improve your relationship or family closeness, it might help...all this, AFTER purchasing it, of course.

So, by this rationale, purchasing porn could be viewed as a marital aid and, therefore, a good thing, eh? I'll try explaining that one to the wife and give her your name and address, okay?

BTW, I've basically committed myself to getting a Wii - they're not taking pre-orders at my local EB yet (in Australia, remember) - but I bought some GameCube games today to play on it (I don't own a Cube).

Indeed. Being an early adopter is a lose/lose proposition. Most of the good games take a generation or two to pop up and you invariably pay a higher price for the privilege of owning a system out of the gate. I was foolish and bought a Sega Saturn as soon as it was released in May 1995. The Saturn was essentially obsolete by new years 1996 and I carried that $399 purchase on my credit card for years. My wife is still riding my ass about that one, which is why I don’t have a 360 right now.

LOL!

Well... why can't it be?

I bought a Saturn after the first price drop, but hell, I got so many awesome games at $20 (Australian) later on that it more than balanced out...
