Night of the Living Dead 1990 (* unfinished project *)

One of my favorite films is Night of the Living Dead 1990. I was always a huge Romero fan and an even bigger Tom Savini fan, so I watched this movie endlessly. I was excited when I found out it that it was finally getting a bluray release but slightly disappointed when I found out Twilight Time (the company behind the recent Fright Night bluray) was releasing it. I know it will look good, but it will be barebones (film, trailer, isolated score only).
 

I saw a lot of complaining about this is various forums, so I decided, why not make a companion disc to go along with it? So far this is what I am thinking, and what I have compiled:

1 DVD9 disc with full motion menus

- Preservation of Tom Savini’s audio commentary from the original DVD

- Preservation of the making of featurette “The Dead Walk” from the original DVD

- Preservation of the WORKPRINT version of NOTLD90 (Kingdom Releases torrent version)

- Preservation of the Siskel and Ebert review (YouTube rip) (about 2 minutes)

- Preservation of Joe Bob Briggs Night of the Living Dead reunion from Drive-In Theater in 1992 with the original '68 cast and Tom Savini talking about the original film and the remake (about 30 minutes)

Would anyone else be interested in this release or want to help? If you have anything else that you feel should go on the disc let me know, or if you have higher quality versions of any of these clips that would be a big help too.

Thanks to See No Evil, I will have a few more features to add to this disc. The first is

- Tom Savini’s camcorder footage during the making of NOTLD90.

The next two features are related to Tom Savini but not necessarily to NOTLD90, they are:

- Son Of The Incredibly Strange Film Show (S1 - E6) George A Romero & Tom Savini

- A 15 minutes excerpt from Clive Barker’s A - Z Of Horror (S1 - E3) The Kingdom Of The Dead with Tom Savini and George Romero

Well, the "unrated" footage amounts to literally a few seconds. All of that is included in the workprint.

That's not my intention. I would simply be putting the workprint as-is on the disc.

Can you tell me more about the workprint?  I didn't know about this.

I do know Savini had a horrible time with the movie.  The last two Q&A sessions I've had with him I try to get him to talk about his experiences at a film director and he quickly glosses over this film.  It's a shame, I love the movie.

The guy there has been uploading some very interesting promo and behind-the-scenes photos that I've never seen before. I get the feeling he may be in contact with one or two of the actors and effects guys.

Who knows what he might have or know about?

I don't think English is his first language, however, and he may even be using a translation script.

You should do an interview with the fx guys. John Vulich and Everett Burrell were owners of Optic Nerve back then. They are both on Facebook although everett does mostly digital stuff now (He did the giant walking creature in The Mist). They both sometimes frequent P.E.G. Practical effects Group on facebook.

OK, got in touch with the guy from the facebook page and he is supposed to be sending me the highest res versions of his pics that he has to add to the disc.

Good stuff! Will this be presented as a DVD menu-accessible gallery or as DVD_ROM content? Or both?

I'd like to try and make it dvd-menu accessible, but we'll see how it turns out. I haven't received the images from the guy yet, so I am not sure of the quality as of now.

Just wanted to give an update on this project:

As it turns out, the Savini and Romero stuff that I had wanted to include, puts the disc WAY over a DVD9. Since none of that stuff is related directly to NOTLD90, I have cut it out.

I originally intended to include the DVD quality version film with the commentary track as the only audio option, but that along with the workprint, also put it way over size. So instead, I opted to re-edit Savini's commentary to match the workprint. That is done.

I have also started working on the menus. I have talked with Jonas, the guy who runs that NOTLD90 website, but he still has not gotten me the photos. So I keep trucking along.

Just an update...

Well I got the Twilight Time bluray and some of you may know the quality suffers and there is a noticeable absence of certain sound effects. I have heard the VuDu HD presentation is superior. I am tempted to fanedit the VuDu video with the bluray audio, but I don't have the power on my machine. However, I still plan to finish my original project soon. I spent time syncing the commentary to the workprint before TT announced the commentary would be present on the bluray, so I guess I can throw that out and make some more room on the disc as well.

I wonder how the VuDu HD version looks?

I have an 720p HDTV mkv which is faithful to the DVD transfer but would like to get my hands on the original 1080i transport stream.

dark_jedi told me he's interested in this VuDu version too.

Does one have to use a capturing software to get it from there or can it be downloaded?

And do you know if the VuDu version has the original color timing?

EDIT: Would also like to request the LD PCM track if somebody has it.

Just wondering if anyone thinks that it would be at all possible to use the isolated score from the BD to somehow 'cancel out' the music from the movie so that it could be replaced with other music? Like quality versions of the tunes used in the workprint, library music or perhaps another source (like, say, the unused Lalo Schifrin score for THE EXORCIST)?
