So everyone tells me that the new "Star Wars" comic out last week is the best thing ever, and not reading it means I should throw myself in traffic.
Anyone pick this up?
It's pretty decent. There are some odd things about it though that I don't care for but overall it looks like it has potential.
My shop had sold out before I had a chance to stop by. I'm on the order list for when they order the second printing though. I am looking forward to it though since it sounds pretty good. I hope it's able to maintain the classic Star Wars look and feel as it goes on. The idea of a new set of stories set in the OT era without reference to any PT or EU garbage is really appealing. Hope they're able to make it work.
I'm also hopeful that its popularity will aid in showing certain execs the demand for classic Star Wars, if you catch my drift...
Digging the cover. Sort of channeling Charlie White with the heavy sculpting and warm cast. I may have to look into this.
I hate it when beautiful cover art is marred by big, ugly, distracting barcodes and captions.
I agree. This was on the Dark Horse site in a preview area. (at least I think that's where I found it). ;-)
Is something about Harrison Ford just hard to draw? It seems more than any other actor, he just usually doesn't look right.
There are loads of Indy posters and covers that look like Harrison.
Han seems to get the weirder looking faces but you find that with all the Star Wars cast.
There were times in the Marvel years when I was half expecting Luke to come out as a Lesbian.
But at least he's "in style" now. He's got bangs. :)
Decided to check this thing out after all the talk I've heard about it.
Didn't do anything for me. But I am not a big comic book guy, and haven't been into SW EU since the nineties, nor longing for the good ol' days of the prePT EU like a lot of fans seem to have.
It did give me a pre-PT vibe. I could totally believe this thing was written in the late nineties if somebody presented it to me as such.
Haven't heard of this. I might check it out.
Alex Ross is supposed to be a big Alex Raymond fan yet his art really does not evoke Raymond like Williamson's does.
I really miss Archie Goodwin and Al Williamson. To me they were star wars comics. While to others Chaykin was.

I downloaded a copy and gave it a look-over awhile ago. It was in Spanish/Italian/Portugese, though, so I couldn't actually read it, per se, and can't really give an informed opinion on it.
That said, its obviously the introductory chapter in a longer storyline and not a complete, self-contained story in and of itself. I personally do not go for the decompressed, six+ issue storyline virus crippling modern comics, so I'm personally glad I never got the chance to waste the money buying it.
I seem to recall the original Marvel movie adaptation being spread out over six issues. ;)

We had Star Wars Weekly so the film adaptation was 12 issues in marvelous monochrome and most stories when on for about that length.
I picked up some of those from an antique mall type of shop many years ago. Much to my dismay somebody had attempted coloring several of the pages. That shop was pretty rotten for passing off comics in questionable condition.
The extra stories created to fill Weekly's pages often ended up as annuals on this side of the pond.

So when does Disney's Marvel actually get star wars, when Does DH contract run out.
I mean they go through all this effort of rebooting the comic with the old trilogy characters and in a couple years what Marvel will be doing the adaptation for episode 7?
I know its all speculation but what does Disney gain by keeping Dark horse Star Wars if they already own Marvel.

Just finished issue two of this.
Really enjoying it so far. Just a couple prequel references tossed in, but they didn't seem shoehorned or forced to me.
Was really excited to see Boba on the cover, but a bit disappointed he wasn't around much. Oh well. I'm excited for more Boba, though, because it'll be less lame clone and more mysterious awesome.
Brian Wood is doing a fantastic job writing these; he's got the '77 feel of the characters down pretty well, Han is snarky, Luke is very green but prodigal, Leia is taking care of business.
It's also good to see Vader down more on the level with other officers, as well. It's nice to see him against the ropes, honestly.
The whole thing has a very untainted OT vibe to it; respectful of the film, but exploring new territory, and certainly not beholden to other EU or the PT. I'm also loving the art and colours; the art is fitting and feels right (this could easily have been ruined by crummy art), it's also not exaggerated and superhero-y, and the colours feel very authentic, the palate feels very OT to me.
Definitely enjoying this, definitely want more of it.

Wow. That cover feels so, so OT. I'll wait on Anchorman's POV before I give it a look, but I'm excited based on Tyrphanx' opinion.

Still wish I had the X-Wing and TIE Fighter that came with issues 1 and 2. Issue #3 has the two page picture drawing of the Death Star surface that you could do battle over. I upgraded to colour when the two large size Marvel Treasury Editions came out at 50p each. The UK Star Wars annual #1 had the Marvel adaptation in B/W and colour but cut pages from the story.
