New Season of Clone Wars

The first episode was fairly intense--it fluttered back and forth from action to drama, with the opening starting with the clone troopers and the end exploring anakin and his relationships with both Padme and the Jedi. Trying not to give anything away to those who haven't seen it but wow, pretty good start from the second season of this great animated show. Anyone else see it?

Its up on Hyperspace for those who have it by the way.

Did this air in the US? Or just in the UK? I'm confused.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

I saw it. I thought it was cool except for two minor things.

:::::::::::WARNING!!! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!::::::::::::::::

First, I would like to know what that bit was about between young Anakin and Qui-Gon Jinn? I mean, Qui-Gonn died before he and Anakin ever had a chance to talk about much of anything, let alone bonding in front of a tree on Dagobah. Is that some sort weird vision that Yoda is having? I would like that explained.

The other thing is about C-3P0. When he opened his robe like that to show Anakin his new golden plating it had to be one of the gayest moments on a cartoon. That funky music coupled with the way that C-3P0 stood like he didn't want anyone to see what was underneath his robe...oh my. I could have done without that particular piece of humor.

Otherwise it was great. Can't wait to see the next episode tomorrow.

I thought the bit about threepio was pretty funny.

I've yet to see an episode, but from my understanding (stemming from the opinions of other fans), Attack of the Clones should have been Episode 1, and this should have been Episode 2.

Anyway, I'll definitely be picking them all up on DVD.

I caught it on Cartoon Network last night....

Anyway, the designs of the characters, like QuiGon and Yoda, I thought sucked. Other than that, I liked it, especially explaining how Aayla and the others escaped from Grevious, which was a pretty big plot-hole left from season one.

The C-3PO gold plating scene was just embarrasing. Gimme Jar Jar over that any day.*cringes* But I thought the Knighting Ceremony of Anakin was really cool, especially when Yoda cut off his acursed Padawan brade.

Wow... that was great!

You can definatley tell that this will tie in with Episode III. In my book, that makes it 'worth it' to watch.

The first seasons wasn't very good since they were just stand-alone adventures. I think these will be a lot better.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Yep, looks like GL is using this 3rd series to explain away some of the things he can't fit into a 2hr episode III movie.

That's a bad thing? I would hate for him to have to explain everything in the movie or it would be over crouded.

You know, the animation on "Clone Wars" really isn't that good. "He-Man & The Masters of the Universe" (1983) had better animation than CW, as did GI Joe, Transformers and Thundercats.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

It's a different style of animation, HSvIJ. And I think it is far more dynamic than the He-Man, GIJoe, et al, animation styles which were pretty boring and overly similar to each other. If you want that animation, go watch those shows. I don't think it would work with this story. Believe me, if GL had wanted that type of antiquated animation, he could have easily gotten it. But he wanted Tartakovsky and his different, yet recognizable, style. And it works so well. But, of course, this is just my honest opinion.

Does that mean I've got to go out and buy or rent the clone wars cartoons to understand what's happening in the movies?

If that's the case then BOLLOCKS to lucas he's an even bigger asshole than I gave him credit for.

Nah, you likely won't have to considering such a small population of SW fans/viewers will have actually seen Clone Wars. It'll probably be more supplemental material than anything else.

*cough*Bullsh!t*cough*

More realistically drawn maybe, but the animation on most of the shows you mention repeated footage, dropped certain scenes to 10 frames per second (and sometimes even less), and weren't very dynamic at all, graphically or dramatically. (Skeletor is angry! Ummm... he always looks angry. He's going to cast a spell. *Skeletor raises scepter the same way he does in every episode.* etc.) I can remember episodes of G.I. Joe using two frame animation cycles for literally 5 seconds of the show (i.e. red laser bolts shooting at blue laser bolts). Technically speaking, the 70's and 80's were the "dark ages" of animation. All cartoons were used for was selling toys, so no one cared if the show was *good.* (As proven by your list of cartoons you cite as examples.)

If you look at Clone Wars, you can tell that there is a very concerted effort to make the characters have more depth. The lines are made to have a feeling of depth. Look at Dexter's Lab. Everything there is made to look graphic and flat. You can't tell me that the Clone Troopers look the same as that. Sure, the line weight (thicknesses) might be similar, but the characters are drawn completely differently. The animation on Clone Wars also doesn't repeat ad nauseum (if ever), is fluid, and care is taken in every frame.

This argument spills over to fine art. Would you rather own a realistically painted landscape done in black and white where you get everything in single glance, or would you rather have a impressionistic painting where you see something different, and feels different, each time you see it? (The "I'd rather have a velvet painting of Elvis, than owning anything painted by Monet" mentality.)

Are we aloud to post links to hyperspace stuff?

Because i've got a link for Ch 21 - 23

23 was freaking sick today. Wow. That horns guy kicked serious ass. Yoda used the force like a pro, Mace was pretty cool. I can't wait til tomorrow.

Where I was somewhat unsure earlier, 22 and 23 have really got me pumped. Most notable was the combined use of force by Yoda and Windu coupled with the alternate storyline of Anakin and Obi-Wan in a mystical quest. It almost reminds me of a Native American vision quest. Really cool, unique animation style gives it a strong focus. Thumbs up!

I think that Solo vs Jones has officially revealed himself to be insane. Pretty much any US cartoon from the eighties has TERRIBLE animation. Thundercats I thought looked decent, but it still was no Miyazaki.

I can't say I like the facial styles that Tartakovsky uses for the clone wars, but the Animation is so fluid it doesn't really bother me all that much.
